KW: play is "embarassing" but team can still win ALC
Balta1701 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 03:54 PM) The other thing, your total access to White Sox finances. Yeah they should go cheap and totally rebuild. Lose 95 games a year. I know one guy who will be around complaining the entire ride. See here's the thing, when we're already losing 99, 89, and on pace for 87 games a year..."wow it would be terrible to lose 95 games a year" isn't scary at all. We're doing that. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 03:51 PM) i posted this on another thread, i will do it again. my confusion is, is it: 1. RV fault and he is out of his element 2. is it the players fault completely. I don't know the answer to this. But my answer in reply is: If it's #1, then the coaching staff needs cleaned out. If it's #2, then the people who brought in these players need cleaned out. I'm ok with either and heck, I'm ok with both. A response of "neither" means that the franchise is ok with this continued losing.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 03:46 PM) This guy should get fired, that guy should get fired. The Red Sox fired their pitching coach so at least their fans got that. Since you think everyone should be fired, who should be hired? What players should be acquired? Since you seem to always think you have all the answers, why don't you let us in on a few? Can I undo the mistakes that were done last offseason? Because otherwise I have to do this with no money. Since I can't do that and give this roster a chance to actually grow, clear out the garbage. Anyone who can be moved from this roster, I'm ok moving. Everyone other than Rodon. I mean that. Just start over. We're going to lose for several years anyway, we may as well do so while being cheap and while building up something that can compete in the future. -

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 03:41 PM) Nice strawman. You brought up payroll ranks. Let's try to keep our exchanges copacetic instead of jumping ship every time you find some new way to complain about the Sox. "There are a couple teams at our payroll level slightly worse than us and one of them gave out Ryan Howard's contract" is not under any stretch of the imagination something we should be bragging about. If teams at our payroll level, or even lower, can find ways to at least be competitive for several years in a row, or at least move back and forth between competitive and uncompetitive every few years, then it shouldn't be too much to ask for us to appear in the playoffs at some point again. If the only defense we have for this org's failures is "see look, the worst teams in baseball are slightly worse"...well that places us among the worst run franchises in baseball too. -

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 03:38 PM) Yeah, I hate when Obama does that to Biden. It's like c'mon Barack, let Biden do his thing. So Kenny Williams is the one in charge and you think he's the most important one to remove to solve this roster construction debacle. I'm ok with that. -

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 03:36 PM) No evidence on your Kenny narrative so it's the personnel now? It seems like you're just broadening your scope so you can complain aimlessly without having to provide any substantive backing. Where is this idea coming from that teams play exactly to their level of payroll? How about the teams directly above us in the payroll rank? The Reds, Mariners, Blue Jays and the Philies are all having great years, right? The White Sox's front office: comparable in quality to the Phillies. Not exactly the strongest case. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 03:33 PM) They are like 3 games back of the 2nd wildcard. The season is definitely not over. There is 1 team in the AL more than 4.5 games out of the 2nd wild card. If every team currently within 4.5 games of the 2nd wild card thinks they're competitive, then there will literally be 4 teams in baseball selling to 26 other teams.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 03:11 PM) Are the Sox likely to bounce back and win the division? No, but this season is definately not over and there are still things worth looking forward to even if the Sox as a team do not rebound. The further development of young guys like Rodon and Avi. Abreu, Sale, Q rebounding from a rough start to the season. Robinson has plugged a huge hole and looks good. Duke is having a nice year. IMO, Eaton will bounce back. Its not just about 2015 but 2016 as well. Some good will come from this season and help next season. Could be player development, rebounding vet or exposing holes ( in progress) that the Sox can address before ST 2016. This season is not lost. "We're developing for 2016" is pretty much the definition of 2015 being lost.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 03:14 PM) Yesterday you said he should only be making public comments every couple months or so (which he is) and I asked you if you had seen anything to the contrary. You did not respond but you're still running with this narrative that he shouldn't be talking so much. If he wants to give the impression that he's the one in control and Rick Hahn isn't, this interview did a fine job of it. -

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 03:14 PM) We should have just paid LaRussa or whoever the best manager available was most of our payroll to be our manager. They would have gotten drastically different results from the same players. Then it's time to change the identity of the people making personnel decisions because we're dramatically underperforming other teams at similar payroll levels. -
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 03:24 PM) Sox brought in plenty this past September/October? Why do you think otherwise? There used to be times when Walker was here, I remember a couple against Detroit, where it seemed like the whole roster came into a game with a plan. "We're all going to take a couple extra pitches and get Verlander out of here" or "We're going to wait on his fastball". I can't remember the last time I've felt like that, particularly against someone who is actually a challenge.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 02:03 PM) The OP daily calling for someone to be DFA'd a nearly daily basis, especially when he called for Sanchez to be DFA proves he has very little idea what he is talking about, but Jennings has been pretty bad. But I doubt they go back to 1 LHP in the pen. Normally I'd agree, calling for a guy like Sanchez to be DFAd is silly, but in this case it's actually what you'd do with Jennings based on his performance.

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 01:57 PM) At some point on the telecast, shouldn't there be discussions about what the Sox can do about their issues at catcher, second base and third base. How long do you keep waiting on Sanchez? When do you pull the plug on Flowers and look for another solution? Is it time to make the move to Davidson? I don't think you'd get this kind of talk from any broadcast team. You're not going to undermine the players you have to see every day that badly. The guys in the newspaper can do that if they want, but the official team broadcast? -
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 11:31 PM) Pitch him against just lefties and see what he does. Yes I know the small sample size says he's better against righties (although Ventura bringing him in against the right handed heart of the Astros' order on Sat probably blew that up). He's definitely not better against righties, 100 point lower OPS against lefties. Walk rate against lefties is 5x lower than against righties. Might be able to get away with using him as a true LOOGY but let's face it, our manager doesn't use guys that way and you can't pretend he will suddenly start.

QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 06:45 AM) Everyone acts like Kenny is the gm still, and Rick is there to make fans think Kenny is not in charge. So yeah, I can compare the two situations. Jerry himself has said that Rick would not be here as a figurehead or puppet. Based on the fact that he's giving interviews sounding like the GM...that everyone includes KW. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 10:27 PM) Funny you say that because Henry said both the GM and the Manager were staying put. I'll take the pitching coach at this point. The Red Sox at least got that. You want to give odds on whether that "vote of confidence" will survive a below .500 season? -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 10:23 PM) - I've watched these games. They’ve been painful games to watch To me it's not the manager’s fault -on rotation: Its not perfect but if you have a strong offense, I think we have the pitching to carry us through -They’re going to have to prove it on the field that we made the right decisions They’ll prove us right or they’ll prove us wrong -would like to see some adjustments made in the team's offensive approach, that w/a bigger strike zone team has to be more aggressive -minced no words about how badly team has played--"terrible, painful to watch"--but still believes team has a "great offense' -Don't think we need a shakeup...This is a time to be patient -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 10:09 PM) So they will just look at the ERA and trade off that. OK. Hahn will just take the draft pick. And then we can congratulate ourselves on turning 4 upper-level minor leaguers into a $10 million bill, a poor season, and a sandwich pick with a good chance of never making the upper levels of the minors. -
Normally I have something productive to say about the demands for DFA-ing a player. I guess today we have to worry about how his family will eat. The good thing is we have Surkamp and he can do this role just as....oh yeah.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 10:03 PM) So you are saying teams that want to trade for Samardjiza will only look at his ERA and not his advanced numbers? His advanced numbers coming into today were the worst of his career since he became a starter. Frankly his HR rate was actually a bit low coming into today so yeah. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 09:59 PM) Then, you add Hamilton, Beltre (where Gallo can play, other than 1B/DH/LF/RF I'm not sure...rotating with Moreland/Fielder)...Jurickson Profar and Odor return and eventually become at least 75-85% of the players they were hyped to be, it's a team to contend with. Of course, the biggest missing element is Yu Darvish... So you're saying they could use a 3 month rental right handed starter.... -

There we go, Samardzija's ERA back to 4.68. If only we could convince other teams to give up two solid pitchers for starters with ERAs near 5. -
