  1. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 08:38 PM) But he's performing significantly better than when the Sox traded FOR Jackson; the Sox gave up their 2 top pitching prospects for Jackson. Sox under Williams didn't exactly cut value-laden deals. But... 1. That was still an idiotic move, and more importantly 2. Jackson had 1.5 years before FA at the time and that was on the last collective bargaining agreement so that even if he were only a "Type B" free agent he would have earned draft pick compensation whereas Samardzija will bring none.
  2. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 06:26 PM) Oh and I would most certainly trade Quintana for Schwarber. He is exactly what the Sox need right now. It would be a ballsy move and maybe wound up looking really stupid in the end but you have to roll the dice when it comes to obtaining premiere offensive talent. I might do that just because I feel bad for Quintana and he would finally get a team around him. But it's a lot more intriguing than Baez.
  3. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 08:34 PM) If you were a GM looking for a starter, what prospects would you give up for a three month rental and a 4.93 ERA? I'm sorry but I just do not see the value in Samardzija. At this point, all he's good for is eating innings, otherwise he's pitching like Danks. Why do I feel like I've seen a GM debate what to give up for a player with an ERA of 5 in the last couple years?
  4. Here's video of Fulmer seeing that the Sox picked him
  5. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 08:21 PM) no way 3 prospects, may a 1 solid and 1 a high teen top 20, and that is if that trade was done sometime before the ASG Just to note - Samardzija is performing significantly worse than Edwin Jackson was when he was traded. The return in the Edwin Jackson deal was "someone absorbed Teahen's contract", Jason Frasor, and Zach Stewart. The Blue Jays then got the "Cardinals desperate to move him" Colby Rasmus.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 06:47 PM) That's why it'd be nice to right a wrong and get 2-3 prospects back for him ... now. Trade him to some contender that needs a starter. Would the Twins take him? The Royals? I want Colon. I don't know why a contending team would give up 2-3 prospects for him.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 06:09 PM) What exactly was his surgery? Last summer after the long, esp. grueling on him season. it wouldn't be surprising if physically he was a lot more recovered next year. Then again it also wouldn't surprise if he aged more/slowed down more.
  8. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 06:12 PM) Would you do Quintana for Baez? Is Quintana hurt?
  9. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 03:47 PM) I'm just under the philosophy that if you have a solid core of young talented players (like the Sox do), that there's no time like the present to try and win. There's just no point in my mind trying to build a solid minor league system at this point while there's potential for the Big League team to win NOW. The Sox are only a few pieces away from being a really good team IMO. I'm of the philosophy that the big league team's potential to win now is extremely low.
  10. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 03:35 PM) Ok? Then we'll waste Sale, Abreu, Rodon, and Quintana's prime years trying to build a winner while the Big League team sucks. "Playing a rookie who was rushed up to the big leagues alongside them" is a pretty solid way to waste their prime years IMO.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 03:22 PM) Talking about Mitchell is about the same as saying the Yankees shouldn't draft lefty pitchers because of Brein Taylor. We have no idea what the injury did to his career, but we know losing two years of true development marked a turning point in his career. But now that we have hindsight, the high schooler OF who was available turned out to be a better choice.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 02:58 PM) Sale and Rodon haven't been the problem. You could say something about Beckham, but it's not like all the guys drafted right after him became stars. At least in the 0's, we had the philosophy of taking the guy close to the big leagues because they could contribute faster or be traded faster. That ended us up with broadway & mccullough. For all we know that might have been part of the reason why we got 3-year-college player Jared Mitchell instead of that other OF named Mike who went a couple slots later. And since you brought up Beckham, that hits on the "rush them up to the big leagues as fast as humanly possible" philosophy that permeates this team's minor leagues and whether that's been as effective as it needs to be too.
  13. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 02:53 PM) The Sox need to pick a guy that they can develop and bring up quick. There's no time for the Sox to give a guy 2, 3, or 4 years to develop. They need major contributors NOW. JMO - this type of "short term thinking" is a key part of how we have gotten ourselves into this mess.
  14. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 02:33 PM) who would want a broken down Noah? 1. He's a substantial expiring contract next season. 2. He's an expiring contract who can still contribute a decent amount.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 12:58 PM) I thought that ended when the reports came out about just how much money michigan (among others) were losing from these with basically 0 material gain. How many reports have there been about how terrible of an idea it is for taxpayers to fund large portions of sports stadiums?
  16. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 01:10 PM) Yes. TY
  17. Is he being replaced by Correa or whatever his name is?
  18. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 12:45 PM) Oh, it'll recover; most likely when he's wearing another team's jersey. At least that's the way it feels. The way he's hitting right now his contract is the most unmovable on the team.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 12:04 AM) Is Melky this bad or is he going to get hot? I'd love to hear the opinion of either a scout or two or somebody on this board who is an expert at studying mechanics of at bats while also including advanced stats. My naked eye tells me Melky sucks, but I'm willing to listen. He's hitting enough line drives that he should be better than this, some of these balls should be falling, but he's so far been a genuinely bad player. One thing that stands out is that he's hitting balls in the air but his home run rate has cratered. It's kinda hard to think that won't recover...but with his background its hard to guarantee anything.
  20. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 04:39 PM) Pitching matchups against Houston not looking good for Sox. Sale and Rodon both are in that series and I think both of them match up well against Houston. Houston too many swings and misses and both of those guys will demolish people who swing and miss.
  21. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 04:30 PM) Would it be too much to ask Melky to get on to lead off? Apparently.
  22. 2-3-4, if we're going to do damage its gotta b e now.
