Obama needs to use an "orange screen" technique behind him for TV so that the slides appear both in a box to his side and as Boehner's head.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 21, 2015 -> 04:01 PM) Doesn't Boehner already participate in that?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 02:15 PM) I'd say an important difference there is that Pat Tillman was made into a hero with a bulls*** story crafted by others for their own purposes. Chris Kyle supplied his own bulls***. He was a willing participant in the glorification. he also appears to have made money on it.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 01:10 PM) Presume Thibs decided to give players rest and let them sit on the loss. He's also said to be evaluating rotational changes, etc. Everything is on the table. Wonder if someone gets sent out or benched to send a message. Rose bench, Hinrich full time starter.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 11:05 AM) The politicians the people elect WRITE those laws. And then those politicians enact restrictions making it tougher to vote or moving people who vote against them out of their district so that they can write those laws while staying in office.

Without knowing the internal team dynamics its hard to say 100% "this should/shouldn't be private", but I lean towards the "This is DRose, I can't remember him calling out anyone, so if he's getting on people there's a reason why" side. The true test will be whether it matters in wins and losses of course.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 05:16 PM) and the White Sox should trade assets for a .650 OPS for, uh, why exactly? Obviously the motivation for doing that would be in part that he put up a .731 OPS in 2012 and a .835 OPS in 2013, so you're hoping he's closer to that player than what he did last year. Also worth noting that post-steroid-era we've seen several of these catchers have up and down seasons in their 20s before they really get the knack of dealing with all the stuff they're going through, from pitch calling to the physical beating they take. Russell Martin comes to mind there - couple of >.800 OPS seasons around age 25, couple .680 OPS seasons in his 26-28 years that should have been his "physical prime", bounced around a couple years and then put up really good numbers in his early 30s. That could be something relevant to Castro as well. Of course, could be relevant to Flowers too.

Well I'm glad I didn't actually try to get tickets for that.

QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 03:51 PM) Does this effect the next Samardijza contract in any way good or bad? They're such different level pitchers I don't believe so. This is similar to the money I though Scherzer would get, but the terms are crazy. Maybe "avoiding crazy terms" winds up impacting S a bit, but I don't know about that. Shields struggling to get a deal, waiting until at least late January, and possibly taking slightly below what people thought he'd get might have more of an impact, IMO.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 02:47 PM) Anyone else have the iphone 6+? I got it for xmas and really like it. I was torn between the 6+ and the edge but figured it would be easier to go with the 6+ because my last phone was an iphone and it would be easier to transfer pictures and restore paid apps ect. Im really surprised how well the finger print scanner works as well. I picked up the regular 6 as an upgrade from a regular 4 over Thanksgiving. So far working well for my needs although haven't tried it on travel yet.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 02:44 PM) you know you got me thinking, come spring training, there are at least 2 prospects that may be heavily looked at. that will Erik Johnson and Matt Davidson. it just stand to reason, that last yr may have been a fluke yr. i mean it would be great if it does happen. but will the sox bring them north or keep then in the minors???? for that, even Penny may have a look see. Barring injury they will start at Charlotte. They will not come north with the club unless there are serious injury problems and they show a lot in ST. They're both going to get time at Charlotte even if they have really good camps.
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 02:22 PM) but i will bet that the sox brass is betting on him like they did with Paulino last yr. Clearly they're not. There's no room for him whatsoever in the rotation starting out the year.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 02:08 PM) Its too bad Strasburg's agent is you know who. Would love to see a Sox rotation of Sale, Shark, Q, Strasburg and Rodon. Nothing wrong with five front line starters in the rotation. Oh well, one can dream right? Stras's agent has nothing to do with why that won't happen.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 01:07 PM) It's almost like saying that there better be a black guy in the top 5 of the AL/NL CY/MVP voting, or else the voters aren't doing their part to ease racial tensions. If they didn't think a person was top 5 for the year, they simply didn't think they were top 5. Race should have nothing to do with it. But if you've got 2 racial minorities who are in the top 4 in ERA, wins, and fWAR, for example, and they don't wind up in the top 8 in cy young voting, you do start to wonder why.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 01:20 PM) here is a question, no offense for using your post. at what price of getting another world series ring is worth. 1 player >>> Rodon, Anderson???? If you could guarantee me a ring I'd trade Rodon for one. But you can't do that. Adding Stras to this rotation makes them the clear favorites for the AL Central, but even then there's still 3 series to win and the best team often does not win a given series. The greatest rotation in the world doesn't guarantee you move forward. The Giants moved forward last year with Hudson and Peavy as 2 of their top starters. Clearly Quintana and Sale/Stras would be a lot better than them, but that's no guarantee that you're going to win those 2 games.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 12:29 PM) Even if he starts to look like the guy that had us so excited, he's now in a position where it will be hard for him to get a shot. At least, he has: Sale Samardzija Quintana Danks Noesi Rodon in front of him. You might say guys like Surkamp and Penny too, in terms of guys who would get the call. If he pitches well enough to actually earn a shot I have no problem saying he'll get it before the season is out. A big part of the reason why they signed Penny probably is that they don't know what on Earth happened to him & wanted an extra insurance policy because of that.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 12:10 PM) I'm just hoping for a Ken Rosenthal tweet "The White Sox have talked with Washington about Strasburg/Zimmerman" but I know it won't/can't happen Again, the price for Stras starts and ends with Rodon. Maybe we could put together the best package for Zimmerman centered around Anderson but I'm not sure.

Is that $15 million presumably inflation adjusted so that he actually receives more than $15 million per year towards the end?

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 11:31 AM) Might have sonething to do with facing one of the best defenses in the league. The win probabilities are based upon the entire league averages not against one of the best defenses. This just like all of the stats used in baseball become meaningless in the playoffs when you face the best teams. If you look at it the other way...one of the best teams in the league might be more liable to come back on you late in the game if you don't deliver a knockout punch early. -
Honestly, everyone here's going to give the same answer..."we have no idea". Guys his age just aren't supposed to lose that much off their fastball if there's no injury. We kept wondering about injury the whole year last year and never saw him hit the DL or complain about anything. The Sox thought enough of him to roll with him out of ST even though his velocity was down, so they didn't think it was an injury or they thought it was something he'd recover from with work. It's just so weird. I wouldn't be stunned if he suddenly got his velocity back any more than I am stunned at how things went with him last year.
