QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 31, 2014 -> 01:20 PM) very close, again the sox brass will have a better idea. mine would be Sanchez, Beck, Trayce, DV + 4 mil and Jacob May. if not Trayce then Sanburn I wouldn't think that would be anywhere close to what Tampa would accept.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 31, 2014 -> 11:44 AM) Brees was actually a 2nd rounder, but your point stands. 2nd pick of the 2nd round, my memory was off by like 3 picks, I thought he went 29. Dah well. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 31, 2014 -> 11:35 AM) Yes, it should have been "wasted" instead of turning the officer's funeral into a political stunt over a bunch of petty grievances or flat out bizarre interpretations of others' actions. One of their main whines is that De Blasio is concerned for his black son. What their gripe is shouldn't matter, a police officer's funeral was a terrible place for that stunt. Boo him at the graduation thing that happened this week, that's fine. The best way to show that a person really didn't care at all about the deceased officer was to make his funeral not about him and that's exactly what happened.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Dec 31, 2014 -> 11:29 AM) To get a good future QB, 5-11 wont cut it. They need to go 2-14 or trade up. There have been a number of good QBs taken after pick 7 in the draft the last 5+ years and several taken in the top picks with major issues (Bradford, RG3). Obviously the biggest recent success was a #1 pick, but take a look around. Last year's super bowl QB was a 3rd round pick. The year before that you had Flacco vs. Kaepernick. 2 of the best QBs in the league, Rodgers and Brees, were late first rounders. Last year only 1 QB went in the top 7 and he might not even be the best of last year's class, I'd say Bridgewater outplayed him. -
Should The Sox Buy the Old Post Office For A New Stadium?

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 31, 2014 -> 10:50 AM) I don't think there are many, if any, cities that are actively trying to get MLB teams. If there were, Tampa wouldn't still be in Tampa. The only real threat to the Sox leaving Illinois is NW Indiana deciding to build a stadium. There weren't cities trying to do so for the last 5 years because the nation's economy nearly collapsed. If the lease comes up in one of the periods in-between major economic collapses where cities are feeling able to spend money, that'd be a different story. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 31, 2014 -> 10:07 AM) Probably true, but if you can trade him for picks and try to find a QB for the future in the draft, or find some journeyman until next year's draft and put that money in other places, I think you do it. Would people be interested in Winston if he's available at pick 7? -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 31, 2014 -> 10:43 AM) Though there are now reports that this wasn't NK, but an inside job. http://nypost.com/2014/12/30/new-evidence-...-cyber-experts/ I've seen those and don't have any ability to evaluate them, but it is I believe well understood that NK has contracted out with a team capable of pulling off this kind of attack regardless of whether they actually did this one or not.

QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 31, 2014 -> 04:24 AM) lol and on a serious note, can anyone pls explain how North Korea can do this, if they are so far behind in the tech..... Something like 15 years ago North Korea started contracting out with hackers in other parts of the world, various places in Asia, to develop a cyberattack capacity.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 06:20 PM) What concerns me about this is that we don't have a GM in place. I don't know if they are just trying to be proactive so that when we do hire a GM, we already have permission to interview these guys. Or if we're going to try to hire a GM and Head Coach separately. That usually isn't smart. Let the GM pick his coach. On that note, I love some Todd Bowles. I hear good things about Gase, but I'm also not sure how much of that offense is him vs Peyton. I already know the answer: a big portion of it is Peyton. Of course, that doesn't mean Gase is a bad coach either. People had the same concerns about McCoy and he's done well with San Diego. Completely turned around Rivers' career. One thing about Gase is that since the broncos have a bye-week I believe he's technically actually allowed to interview this week but not next. Possible someone could interview him and have a hire lined up during that period if the Bears don't at least show interest. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 12:31 PM) right now, i am more concern in having a backup plan / platoon for Avi and Eaton. Huh? You can't have 2 platoons in the OF for guys who hit from different sides of the plate.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 11:37 AM) Ozzie made several crucial calls during the playoffs which were arguably the most important calls of their respective games. bringing in El Duque with the bases loaded and no outs.... deciding to bring Buehrle in as a closer for the first time ever.... I could go on. His importance to that playoff run and outcome cannot be equated with 'any other member of that team' that is utterly foolish logic. Didn't Ozzie also bring Marte in and let him walk like 3 people to set up the El Duque situation?

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 04:24 PM) Garland and Konerko? That's a huge, huge stretch. Jon Garland was absolutely a key part of that "Top ranked system" in 2000. Konerko wasn't because he was up before that but he was absolutely part of the "The Kids can Play" movement in '99.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 04:19 PM) The Bulls can't give Jimmy Butler a 5-year extension Designated player rules. Derrick Rose is the Bulls' designated player. Well there's one I didn't know. so 4/$80 for Jimmy.
-
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 03:35 PM) How much per year is Jimmy worth if he keeps it up? Something close to 5/$100, depending on exactly where the cap winds up next year.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 01:48 PM) I know you're blinded by your Cutler hatred, but this team was god awful top-to-bottom and Trestman didn't have any sort of control over the locker room or his staff. The only way that franchising cutler would have made that team better is if it somehow massively turned Cutler into an incredible leader and great performer, which I can't believe anyone accepts as true. As you suggest, that collapse was total. -

Shanahan's record in Washington isn't particularly impressive but he was hurt by management and cap issues (sounds vaguely familiar?) One positive though, he's the only coach in recent memory that I've seen actually try to single handedly destroy his starting quarterback, so in that sense he could fit one of the Bears' needs. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 11:41 AM) People are driving less and less, clearly key to sox future is to ignore that trend and buy in the suburbs. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 10:20 AM) 1 of 3 first round picks Emery made is a pattern? I'd say that I've heard all 3 of Emery's 1st round picks described as overdrafts. In the following days with each of them there were suddenly reports of "secret teams" also after the same guys, which may very well have been accurate but which was still very reminiscent of a Scott Boras technique as well. And anyway...those "successful" first round picks haven't translated to very many wins on the field, so that's hardly a defense for him anyway. Maybe you have a pro-bowl left guard, but you still haven't got a very good offense.
