  1. QUOTE (shysocks @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 10:53 AM) Holy crap, I didn't realize how backloaded his contract was. He probably negotiated that in hopes of not getting traded. Didn't quite work out. I'd be happy if the Sox got Mark back as long as the price was right, lefty/righty be damned. When Buehrle was warming up as a visitor this year, a drunk guy offered to trade Sale to get him back. That would probably get it done. Actually, that's exactly what the Marlins have done with several people in order to get a cheap season out of them and then trade them. I still can't believe that Mark didn't see it coming.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 10:54 AM) Margin for error is thin but you also can't continue to let your lockeroom be stuck with this loser. You just can't. You have to hope you can find a cheap, good young QB through the draft and make way. No one said it would be easy but we better start moving forward vs. staying stagnant and pathetic. They have the rest of the season to convince me otherwise. I totally get what you're saying, but I do want to stress that benching Cutler and trying a "young QB" is a recipe for 2 years of losing, even if they pull off a high enough draft pick to find their ideal QB this year. It may not show up on the offense but it'll show up somewhere, depth/injuries, weakness on the defensive starters, etc. You're getting a smaller version of that this year based on having Cutler's payroll on the roster AND having $10 million in dead space from finishing Peppers. Teams that lose that large of a fraction of their cap are just doomed.
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 10:45 AM) It doesn't matter. You let whomever comes her cut Jay or just stick him as a backup and you let them know that he is not our QB. If we lost because of our defense fine, but he is part of the problem. Emery and Trestman have made a complete and utter mess. You cannot stick an $18 million QB on the bench and expect to win in this league without a miracle. That's just too high a fraction of your cap room to overcome getting nothing out of it.
  4. So who thought that after the end of the Bears game Brady's 5 TD wouldn't be the best showing of the day?
  5. QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 26, 2014 -> 06:33 PM) Tens of thousands of poor, minority voter registrations never processed in GA, Republican SoS doesn't want to hear any of your bulls*** about it It's not voter fraud when we keep the correct people from voting.
  6. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 26, 2014 -> 02:24 PM) Penalty on Bears of course. NE may score 50 today. By the way, well done with this post.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 26, 2014 -> 04:00 PM) OB might have an anuerism. This follows up by a bye week then on the road at Green Bay (just write them down as 3-6). I for one am glad I don't have chicago sports radio available to me.
  8. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 26, 2014 -> 03:36 PM) You're acting like they can't move Viciedo if they tender him a contract which remains to be seen. Either way, I'm certain Hahn will gauge Viciedo's trade value before deciding to tender him or not. Obviously they won't use him as a backup plan if they feel he will be impossible to move. I guess I just have no confidence in them "not" being stuck with a guy who they might have thought about moving when we already saw them get caught stuck with several guys last year (De Aza, Beckham, even Viciedo) who wound up pretty much unmovable after they got arbitration offers until most of the season was over.
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 26, 2014 -> 02:49 PM) Since the last time we played NE Don't worry, Green Bay is up again soon!
  10. QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 26, 2014 -> 02:40 PM) I'm going to stay tuned until it is made clear that we won't play the backup QB Sure seems like they're playing a backup.
  11. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 26, 2014 -> 02:34 PM) 2 call they missed IMO and guy on TV agrees NE get all the call the bias is over the top. That one was very iffy, I wouldn't have stopped the play there, he was still trying to throw the ball.
  12. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 26, 2014 -> 02:22 PM) You missed my point on using a rotating DH. I'm suggesting having four starting-caliber OFs on the roster, one of whom would DH on any given day. Quite frankly, I don't want Viciedo on this team next year unless we miss out on all other OF/DH targets. I was probably his biggest fan coming into this past season, but it's time for us to move on, even though I think doing so has some chance of burning down the road. Unfortunately that's not how the world works. They have to make a decision on Viciedo by the start of December, and it'll be weeks after that before they know whether they'd have missed out on other targets.
  13. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 25, 2014 -> 10:37 AM) Ah yes. The typical DA cherry picking. We're going to ignore the years which he had Crawford, Upton, Fuld, Jennings, Longoria (the latter pre injuries) Zobrist, Damon etc. When they were swiping bases left and right? He had the personal and the health of his players over the years and was well regarded as an aggressive manager. I was exaggerating the number for Micah obviously but I could still see him in the Podsednik range if he actually hits/gets on base. To add numbers, the Rays led MLB in stolen bases in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2nd in 2011, and 6th in 2012. The 194 bases they stole in 2009 is the 2nd highest team total since 2000 (when ESPN's data stops).
  14. QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Oct 25, 2014 -> 12:28 AM) Looks like VMart is done as a Tiger: http://detroit.cbslocal.com/2014/10/24/rep...four-year-deal/ Why does that mean he's done as a Tiger? They offered him the QO to get a draft pick and everyone knew he'd be in position for several offers of multi year deals. Similarly, every team in MLB will "not want to give him a 4 year deal", the question is whether one will.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 08:23 PM) One thing I didn't know was Maddon lives in LA. Of course you could live in LA but still not want to commute to Dodgers Stadium. The flight to Arizona is shorter.
  16. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 07:48 PM) Guess Moises isn't part of the core . Apparently we don't need a right handed hitting backup OF as much as we need the roster spot. I'm ok with that, but interesting.
  17. QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 07:33 PM) It is actually a part of journalistic ethics to respect on-the-record/off-the-record agreements It really depends. I actually am sick of people printing stuff that is false and then still protecting their sources. We invaded Iraq because of people doing that. And if a person agrees to an interview and says "this is off the record" without the interviewer agreeing, that isn't an agreement. Both of those are annoyingly common games, and one of them helped cost a few hundred thousand lives.
  18. Jimmy Rollins is apparently a "co-winner", making this the first year that there have been 2 winners of the Roberto Clemente Award.
  19. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 06:10 PM) Jason Heyward had an OPS of .735 last year and is signed for 1 more year. The idea that it takes multiple top prospects to get his services for a year is crazy. The only thing sillier is that the Sox should be the team to do it. The Sox have had 3 90 win seasons (and 3 playoff berths) in the last 20 year using that approach. Clearly it would be foolish for the White Sox to trade for him if they weren't both willing and able to pony up a huge price to keep him from reaching free agency the next year or he wasn't willing to sign that huge deal.
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 05:50 PM) I just don't know that I see Heyward getting an 8 year deal. I don't think it's impossible, I just think that teams would want to see him improve his hitting as defense is a skill that has a strong correlation of deteriorating with the loss of athleticism. I'm still trying to figure out if teams actually believe these defense-dominated WAR numbers for corner OFs, but with Alex Gordon leading the Royals to the series this year I feel like some of them will start, and if that happens someone will go pretty close to that level, maybe beyond it, for a 27 year old Heyward. Hell, it's not hard to convince yourself he can still be a lot better with the bat during that deal as well.
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 05:33 PM) Yeah, Sanchez actually seems like a legitimate piece the Braves could/would have interest in, but they're gonna need a legitimate A or B level prospect to consider tradnig Heyward to the Sox. Danish, Hawkins, and Sanchez is about as low as I could see them going. I have no problem with that, but I think the Braves would also get a better offer than that. They'd be able to get a better offer than that if Hayward was willing to immediately sign his 8/$160 extension or something like that.
  22. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 12:10 PM) Here's what I don't get with this argument...WHAT PAYCHECKS? It's clear that these politicians are the ones getting campaign donations from the oil industry. That's part of the irony here. But seriously, what paychecks? I can't really think of too many industries that would benefit from stricter environmental regulations. A great recent example is the $3.4 million payday that Eric Cantor received from the finance industry as a political consultant after losing his recent primary race. This does not just apply to one party either, Evan Bayh from the great state of Indiana is another classic. Here's a list of 24 former members of Congress who currently work for lobbying companies that have contracts with large energy companies. There is also a revolving door of staffers who work for congresspeople who head out and work for these lobbying firms afterwards for substantial salaries. This of course is counterbalanced by the scientists who work on climate change who have so much free money that they snort coke off their monitors daily.
  23. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 12:54 PM) So with the Rays GM and Maddon leaving, you think a possible rebuild/fire sale is on its way in TB? This is just pure speculation on my part. But, I would be interested in Longoria, Cobb, McGee, Jennings and Joyce. What are your guys thoughts on this? I think out of those, Cobb, McGee, and Joyce make the most sense for this team. Obviously Longoria does, but that would require a huge package of players. Again, just pure speculation on my part. Stir up conversation again. I don't think the Rays would move anyone who is >2 years from free agency.
