  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 02:13 PM) It isn't hard for me to imagine Abreu falling off in August and September, especially in the power department. Remember the season in Cuba is 90 games long. I could see him fatiguing for sure. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 02:43 PM) Still, it's 6 months long with very few off days. Mentally it is grueling. If he isn't used to it, and how can he be, it is going to be tough for him at first IMO. It's a shame the White Sox don't have anyone on the roster who can back up 1b. They're stuck with absolutely no choice other than to play him every single day until his body parts give up. That has to just be horrible to know.
  2. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 03:00 PM) Hes bad, but we do have a vacant DH spot next season. But of course, that spot would in theory be easier to fill than a corner OF spot.
  3. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 02:58 PM) ya he wants go after james shields It does kinda actually make some sense. Danks is a #4 starter right now being paid like a #3. For a team with a need in their rotation, that's a reasonable thing to bring on if it makes them competitive right now, and clearing up the price of a #3 starter could very readily allow the Sox to spend a little more for a #2 guy.
  4. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 02:33 PM) Am i crazy to think that Wilkins should be brought up since he's having a good year, so that even if they don't trade Dunn, he could platoon with Dunn the rest of the year, just to give Wilkins his cup of coffee? The problem with this is that at each of the last 2 levels, Wilkins has been a slow starter. It might be nice to get him a few at bats but we'd have to expect nothing from them and judge nothing from them.
  5. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 10:35 AM) At some point aren't the Bulls out of roster spots? Rose, Butler, McDermott, Gasol, Noah, Taj, Mirotic, Hinrich, Dunleavy, Snell, the other 2nd rounder, Brooks...Marion? Or is the choice between Marion and Brooks? They've got 15 roster spots to work with.
  6. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 09:47 AM) I guarantee you will see Rose and Hinrich on the floor at the same time more than we need to. I have no problem with this. Genuinely don't. If Hinrich is out there with Rose it's for his defense and it's either giving Jimmy Butler some extra rest or its creating a lineup that combines extra outside shooting with solid perimeter D. In short bursts that could very well be an effective lineup for the Bulls.
  7. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 09:35 AM) Just once actually, and he was hit by a pitch. For the full season he's at a >200k/600 PA pace. The only way he'd ever be a successful hitter with that number of strikeouts is to hit 40 HR a season. Basically if you want to know "is Tyler's streak real" watch to see if that K rate goes back up. 5 times in 25 PA's and he's a solid MLB contributor. The rest of the season he's been on a 9-10 K/25 PA pace.
  8. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 09:17 PM) I just want someone different than Kirk. You know he's going to get more minutes than he should. That has nothing to do with Kirk Hinrich. Or frankly nothing to do with Thibs for that matter.
  9. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 09:25 AM) 5 times in 23 ABs Well if he kept that up it would be a huge improvement (I assume there's a couple walks in there so he'd be below a 20% K/PA rate?)
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 06:42 PM) TAKE ALL OF THE LEFTIES We need one more LH Reliever going into next year to come from somewhere.
  11. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 09:23 AM) This is somewhat false. Just found an article saying Wednesday the 9th was his first time wearing them... Since then he is hitting .343/.400/.565 with 3 pretty big RBIs. I say somewhat false because he did have back to back 0fors in that stretch. With the 5 doubles and that near massive bomb he's clearly been seeing the ball better since putting on those magical glasses. What's his K rate in those games?
  12. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 08:18 AM) Agreed. Hawk was touting Wilkins during the Sox game Monday night. Too bad Wilkins got off to such a slow start; then, his stats would really be impressive. Wilkins should be on everyone's prospect list. Almost everyone. He's certainly going to be on my top 25 but seriously the excitement should be tempered. He's still older than most people at Charlotte (Turns 26 in Now with all that said, the White Sox absolutely have a need for a LH hitter in their lineup and they have an opening at DH in the near future, and having some ability to be a backup 1b to give Abreu time off (HA!) would be useful too. But we're not talking about Adam Dunn in his prime. If his minor league numbers carry over we're talking about a guy who K's less than Dunn, gets on base less than Dunn, homers less than Dunn, but who gets more hits than Dunn and is very cheap for a couple years. That could be very useful to fill a lineup hole if he can translate, but there's important limits here.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 12:00 AM) No offense, but you seem insensitive. Drowning or getting hit by a car would be a lousy accident. Unless the driver was DUI, then it would be manslaughter. But to think of some bastard firing a bullet into the window and knowing how happy the punk is to learn he actually hit and killed somebody just sickens me. When I grew up in the city of Chicago (103rd southside) we didn't have to lock our doors at night. People had each other's backs. Now people are just shooting each other left and right each and every weekend. It shouldn't be this way. And when you grew up it was happening twice as often as it does now. Based on that standard I think you should start melting people's locks down and selling them for scrap.
  14. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 10:06 PM) Yes it is. If an owner came out and said they didn't want to deal with Tebow's media circus, on top of not thinking he's a good player, would your immediate conclusion be that the owner is anti-Christian? I still thought he'd have made a solid right end.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 07:43 PM) Really with the options years built in the way that they were, it was great contract. Santos stood to lose way more than the Sox if he had pitched like a real closer. And he's a perfect example of why ballplayers sign those contracts, because he walks away with a ton more than he would have without signing it.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 10:01 PM) Except its not. In Dungy's lifetime, blacks weren't playing pro sports, because they would be a distraction. Heck, in the last decade or two blacks as either a QB or coach were still locker room distractions.
  17. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 10:00 PM) Cute! It's still bulls*** logic though. I'm not racist. I just don't want blacks being a distraction at my lunch counter.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 09:56 PM) I'd have more respect for Dungy if he just admitted he has a problem with homosexuality, instead of making up these lies about distractions. The amazing thing is I'll bet you at some point in his lifetime someone has asked him whether being a black coach would be a distraction in the locker room. And probably a lot worse.
  19. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 09:54 PM) So call the owners that took that on courageous. Don't call the others racist because they didn't. That's bulls*** logic. I understand completely. No one could ever accuse the rest of the owners in a league banning black people of being racist. They just didn't want them around.
  20. It's a good thing there were no protests or angry people when baseball had its first African American player.
  21. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 05:46 PM) Come on, that's bulls***. It's a distraction because of the media covering the story, both for good and bad. You can't deny there won't be coverage, just like you can't deny Manziel or Tebow will/did get crazy amounts of coverage. At the end of the day I think it's a valid concern when you're talking about a guy who was drafted so late and is very questionable to make any sort of impact at this level. The question becomes is it worth it? Is it worth the headache? Vick served his time and guess what, was still a very good professional player. There was value there. It made sense to deal with the distractions given what you were going to get. Sam is just a story. Most coaches/scouts don't think he'll make it. And of course if he doesn't, the conclusion will be "oh well it's because he's gay and you're a bigot! That's why he didn't make the team/doesn't start!" I'm sure Dungy is full of s*** and he's really just saying I don't want a gay guy on my team. But I don't agree that distraction can't be a legitimate excuse. If your NFL team is designed such that it couldn't handle this distraction then that's a very poorly run NFL team. That said, I'm very sure there are some.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 05:24 PM) It would be about a $5 million price tag for the claiming team. I don't think it happens. If I were either Oakland or Seattle, with what they've already given up to compete this year, assuming they don't solve their DH slot through any other means I'd be surprised if they didn't. You don't trade Russell for those 2 pitchers and then leave the DH spot that weak when the cost is $5 mil. Yeah try to get it done first and get the sox to chip in but given the choice?
  23. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 05:00 PM) So, if you don't want to draft a homosexual onto your team (or are of the opinion that you wouldn't, if you could) because of the inevitable distraction it will cause, you're a terrible person? So if you don't want to draft a black person onto your team (or are of the opinion that you wouldn't, if you could) because of the inevitable distraction it will cause, you're a terrible person?
  24. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 03:22 PM) http://dailycaller.com/2014/07/21/now-irs-...ls-still-exist/ I hope Democrats realize that by ignoring this they just give the next Republican admin a get-out-of-jail-free card. I can just see the clamor for computer info from President Walker's Chief of Staff over some supposed misstep and 'whoops! sorry, hard drive crashed, no backup. Oh well.' Yes, because this is the case that sets the precedent of no one being charged when emails are lost/deleted and document preservation rules aren't followed. Totally this case and this case alone. I haven't previously brought up any examples of such a thing happening 7 years ago and being forgotten about with no one charged. And this post is also completely honest. And the poster I'm replying to has a great memory.
  25. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 04:57 PM) Yep. And if he's on the Sox past the July 31st deadline, they will make it an even 4 this August, 99.9999% sure of that. And this will probably be the first time he's claimed, if things get that far.
