  1. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 04:40 PM) I suppose if anyone on thbe tesm could be seen leaving before the end of the month it might be Dunn. But, only if they pick up his salary. There is no need to trade anyone IMO. You hear it on this site al the time that we won't get anything in return anyway. Now I don't undervalue our players, but if you are going to trade to improve for 2015 then you do it (1) when you know our minor league guys can step in and play (and I don't really see that yet) and/or (2) you can get a good return that will help us at the big league level. And I don't mean a couple of minor league guys who might be 3 years away. We are not going to benefit this year by just giving up on one of our players for whatever is offered. Maybe the trades come during the off season? We might even go after some free agents. Who knows? That would be the point. The White Sox would only pick up salary if it offered them a solid return in prospects. Right now, if I were Oakland or Seattle and Dunn was put on waivers I'd grab him to fortify my lineup/bench at a reasonable cost given the time remaining. The Sox ought to be able to save some money on him at least.
  2. If having signed Kirk Hinrich is the biggest problem the Bulls have this season then this will be the first year I've been excited about basketball for the entire season since the day Rose's knee popped.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 01:41 PM) I hope the M's realize that Dunns numbers probably get worse in Seattle, and that is kind of scary. See, I actually think Dunn is a good fit for Seattle. If you look at his spray charts, more than 2/3 of his HR would still easily clear the fences in Seattle. When he hits them as we all know, he hits them a long way. Moving to Seattle would cost him a few HR but since his go 420 feet pretty often they'd still leave the park pretty often.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 11:37 AM) I'd also still be interested in hearing from Micker Adolofo. I asked about talking to any of the guys who had been in the DSL last year when they were in rookie ball and was told they probably weren't ready on the language side. Just guessing that'd be the case here also.
  5. I still think there's an outside chance Rick Hahn looks at his roster and thinks he has a potentially competitive team in 2015 with a reasonable amount of spending and an absolutely competitive team by 2016 with maybe even a small amount of spending. If that is the case, moving Alexei Ramirez would set that back, meaning that there would need to be a return good enough that by 2016 it would offset the loss of the player and shifting to a kid there. That's my standard. If we don't get that, I'm not interested. A "b" prospect better be a pretty darn sure fire thing to motivate me.
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 11:32 AM) A poll of GM's and Assistant Gm's indicated you were not in the minority. It was a smallish sample size though. The majority said they'd rather have Wiggins then Love (probably factors in contract as well). I hope the Cavs make that deal. Will really hinder their flexibility going forward and prevent them from being a good an above average defensive team, imo. They clear a max contract when a guy reaches free agency in 2 seasons if they can't win a title.
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 11:11 AM) Which really didnt do much for either party. And going back to Minnesotas haul for Garnett and all the way through Orlandos haul for Howard, trading for a star player really kind of sucks for the star trading team. I can't remember a team ever getting a #1 pick back in one of those trades.
  8. Cavs planning to sign Wiggins this week. If they sign him they have to wait 30 days before he can be traded.
  9. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 20, 2014 -> 07:29 PM) Why would Marcus be better defensively??? He has been a very average defensive player in AAA ( as well as during his time in ML) whereas Micah has been better in his brief stint so far at AAA Intuitively...if they think Marcus has the tools to occasionally play SS in the minors and they have only used Micah at 2b in the Minors (both true) then they are probably thinking Marcus has better defensive tools.
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 20, 2014 -> 06:10 PM) Despaigne no hitter through 7. 100 pitches, and getting wild. Lasts 7.2.
  11. If he throws strikes he'll stick.
  12. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 19, 2014 -> 09:04 PM) I was trying to be general because we accept it all over the world. Flipping this around how outraged would we have been if Iraq managed to bomb Great Lakes Naval Air Station and accidentally killed 50 innocent people in North Chicago in the process? It seems that modern war strategies are increasing the killing of innocent civilians. Compared to setting off a nuclear weapon in Japan, firebombing a city and killing hundreds of thousands, or releasing poison gas across the front lines?
  13. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 19, 2014 -> 06:44 PM) You gotta realize Thibs is a defensive minded coach and Hinrich is a really good defender. That means something. Thibs also likes using the 2 pg backcourts from time to time and with Hinrich able to play most sgs that works. Whether we like it or not I truly believe Thibs was genuine when he said Hinrich was a must. Hinrich on the court is not necessarily a problem if there's an actual playmaker next to him at PG. We just can't remember that because it's been so long since we've had a legit PG.
  14. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 19, 2014 -> 07:43 AM) I'm trying to understand why I and many others view these two types of events so differently. 1. A missal is shot at an airplane and innocent people are killed. 2. A missal is shot at a military target in a city and "collateral damage" occurs. In other words innocent people are killed. It seems fair to me to assume that whomever shot at that plane thought they were shooting at a military target making the Malaysian flight "collateral damage". I'm not saying we shouldn't be outraged, sad, and all the emotions we are feeling over this tragedy, but perhaps we should have a bit more outrage at "collateral damage"? How often did we shoot missals in Iraq and other countries knowing their would be "collateral damage"? I saw a map of the routes that different airlines were taking through that region. Some continued to fly over that airspace other avoided it. What possible reasons could you have to fly over the Ukraine? I'm guessing the answer will concern fuel costs. Of course, the real counter to this airplane downing in how collateral damage is viewed is happening in Gaza right now.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 19, 2014 -> 03:57 PM) You are right, for less money, Nate and DJ only offered us more ppg, more assists per game, better FG% and better 3pt FG%, and only slightly less steals and rebounds than Kirk Hinrich the past two years. Also Kirk sucks at free throws. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 19, 2014 -> 04:56 PM) Kirk is the far superior defensive player and those smaller guys get completely wiped out in the playoffs. Bulls also just signed another PG in Aaron Brooks that will be just as good as those other guys. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 19, 2014 -> 05:10 PM) DJ was getting skullf***ed in the playoffs by Wall and Beal. As bad as Robinson was the year before. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jul 19, 2014 -> 05:18 PM) Kirk Hinrich was just as bad as DJ and Robinson was actually solid in the postseason the year before. Guys, the only question that's going to matter is whether those guys are the main PG for 48 minutes in the postseason or whether they have 10-20 to cover. They should get torched if they're out there for 48 against starters.
  16. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 04:20 PM) No, they would be the criminals. Well you have soundly refuted in detail so many of Tex's points its hard to know what to think now.
  17. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 05:32 PM) I had been talking specifically about the politics of personal destruction. IE trying to get your target fired, ostracized, excommunicated and so on. Calling the extreme gay activists that hunted down the Mozilla guy the Gaystapo isn't going to get them fired from their job or cause them to lose any business. Because the Gestapo were just great.
  18. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 02:20 PM) Assuming, as we must do, that Rose is healthy, what is the Bulls glaring weakness? Aside from general shooting, they have only 1 playmaker and based on last year's cup of coffee I can't count on that playmaker to be anywhere near his previous self. At least for part of the season they're going to have to rely on ball movement and floor spacing in order to generate scoring and I haven't been impressed with their ability to do so recently.
  19. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 02:12 PM) Sorry, not buying it. Part of the reason why 2000s LeBron/Cavs were so good (at least in the regular season) was that they were a really good defensive team with the best 2 way player in LeBron. What made the Heat great the first three years was the fact they had three legit offensive stars along with being among the best defensive teams when they wanted to be. This Cavs team has alot of offensive power with LeBron/Love/Kyrie but on paper, that's an awful defense. They can certainly score but other teams will score on them too. The problem is I can find much worse negative things to say about almost every other team in the East. The Cavs might be weak on defense but they at least would have some serious strengths to counter it. When you start comparing them to the West, they're definitely not invincible, but no one in the East has sold me on being a well rounded team without major holes.
  20. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 01:47 PM) You guys can laugh all you want, not buying Love + Cavs = invincible in their first year together. Down the road as young guys develope, I can see that, right off the bat, no. I would not say they're invincible, but I'd say they'd appear on paper head and shoulders above the pack in the East.
  21. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 01:34 AM) In other news Cavs now willing to include Wiggins, Warriors now willing to include Thompson in the Love sweepstakes. Then why hasn't the deal been done yet?
  22. Well Gage in this case I will defer to you as the expert, guess I was mistaken.
  23. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 05:25 PM) Malaysian jet -- not European, not a major power, so the international response will be tempered. Are there Americans on every plane everywhere? How many Americans are abroad at any one time? No matter what happens, anywhere in the world, there are Americans there. But it was flying out of Amsterdam.
  24. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 06:03 PM) Why in the heck would the Dodgers provide any sort of guarantee. That would be extremely unique for a mlb franchise to do. I'm sure there are some clauses regarding performance, etc, but this is not a LA Dodger issue and is a TWC issue. They paid for the contract and have been the ones who are finding that maybe they paid too much / misjudged the leverage they'd have in their negotiations with cable providers. You don't think that it's plausible for a company like TWC to add in a clause saying "here's this amount, except in this circumstance" in a contract?
