That was impressive, Alexei.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 31, 2014 -> 03:40 PM) MLB has to do something about the manager coming out and standing around to see what the clubhouse guy says thumbs up or thumbs down. I don't think I'd mind that nearly as much if the New York replay was already done by the time he officially requested it.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 31, 2014 -> 03:36 PM) This taking way too long. They kept telling us that the replay should be done by the time the manager comes out to request it. It seems like that should be possible but it doesn't happen.

Is Kansas a Laughingstock or Do You Not Care?
Balta1701 replied to greg775's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 31, 2014 -> 03:25 PM) But U of Kansas is going to lose tons of faculty over this policy and no other states are enacting it. Don't you think Kansas once again is acting like a bunch of clowns? The difference between your statement and Tex's statement is that one is referring to "Freedom of Speech", the other is referring to "Academic Freedom", a specific set of rules that tenured professors are given to allow/encourage them to make controversial statements because science often benefits from controversial, otherwise indefensible statements. -
He's out.

Should the Sox market Quintana for a trade?
Balta1701 replied to harfman77's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 31, 2014 -> 03:26 PM) Balta, there is no pitching coming through that system anytime soon. If the White Sox are unwilling to spend roughly $120M on free agent starters next year I think they'd be better served to tear it down. Per Cott's they have $46M in commitments next year, what frightens you about bumping that to ~$70M? If you think the White Sox should "Tear it down" then you can't tell me that" 2 or 3 years.... is just too long given the injury risks to any pitcher" because 2-3 years of losing is what you're demanding. BUt then again, just like the last couple years, multilple years of losing and failure is what you constantly advocate for. -
Come on CG, let's see some of that power you showed last year.

That was a less than impressive at bat.

Should the Sox market Quintana for a trade?
Balta1701 replied to harfman77's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 31, 2014 -> 03:01 PM) It's not about control in the case of Quintana, it's about upside and their pitching pipeline which is in bad shape. How long are you going to wait to put starters around them? If you are going to tell me the timeline is 2 or 3 years to get the staff built around Sale and Q, I'm going to say that's just too long given the injury risks to any pitcher, and to Sale in particular. So...the White Sox should trade for young pitching that will then take 2 to 3 years to develop becuase that's the norm for young pitching (see for example, Jose Quintana's development, Chris Sale's development). You really want this team to lose for the next 2-3 years don't you? -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 31, 2014 -> 03:08 PM) Headley was hitting .196 until that bloop and is batting clean up Applauds.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 31, 2014 -> 02:41 PM) You push the timeline back. The White Sox have Jose Quintana under contract through 2020. How long are you hoping we're bad for? Seriously, Quintana is under contract for so long that if they traded for someone and brought that player up, that player would be able to hit free agency the same year Quintana would. The White Sox would have 6 years of control on Quintana and 6 years of control on a guy they traded for. It literally does not push anything back at all except makes it harder to win in 2015. Which I guess is probably why you want to do it. -

QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 31, 2014 -> 02:15 PM) As usual you don't understand. Sale and Quintana are ready now and have nothing behind them. The longer you put nothing behind them the less valuable they become to this team. The last thing you want is for them to get hurt waiting on the minor leagues to churn out a couple of capable starters. And by trading Quintana you hope to, at best, get Quintana back. -
Sigh. 3+ throws on the rundown again. Sigh.

Nice pitch.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 31, 2014 -> 01:37 PM) If the Sox aren't willing to spend ~120m on free agent starting pitchers next year they might as well market Quintana. The position players are largely accounted for. And as usual, makes no sense. The White Sox aren't willing to spend money on starting pitching. They should therefore get rid of starting pitching as they have too much. -
QUOTE (dasox24 @ May 31, 2014 -> 01:05 PM) Also, I spent the entire day at Manhattan Beach yesterday. I must say: I get while people hype up SoCal so much. My first impression of the area was the Inland Empire, because that's where I'm working, so I wasn't impressed. But our project is ahead of schedule, and in the rarest of moves, we were told we weren't working on Friday. So I decided to explore the beach (wanted one close to LAX since I was taking the redeye last night), and I completely get why people live there. Shouldn't this be in the hot babe thread?

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 31, 2014 -> 01:26 PM) Hahn needs to either take away De Aza or tell Robin to quit starting him so much Hahn probably wants him starting.

Garcia still hoping to return this season
Balta1701 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Work like you're coming back and then have a full offseason to learn. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 31, 2014 -> 12:16 PM) You're just wrong here bud but no need to argue as we'll see. I think you're being blinded by the level of competition that the Heat have played so far in the playoffs. Even if it takes 7 games again, anyone really want to stand up and say either of the competitors will actually beat the Heat this time? I don't.

Is Kansas a Laughingstock or Do You Not Care?
Balta1701 replied to greg775's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 30, 2014 -> 05:21 PM) Professors that are very upset and as a result are looking to leave KU as soon as they can, are pointing to the fact no other state has this policy. The guy was blasting the NRA and brought their kids into it. Should he be censored? Free speech? BTW I would be fired in a fast second if I tweeted something radical at my job. I get the academic freedom part, genuinely do, but I would be inclined to draw an academic freedom line at suggestions of violence. However, if there's a policy in Kansas now that restricts Academic Freedom significantly beyond that, then it would very much make sense for everyone else to leave their universities. -

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 30, 2014 -> 04:11 PM) It's twitter so there's not exactly a lot of nuance, but I imagine that argument is more that the NRA works to prevent any and all forms of gun regulation which all but guarantees that there will be another mass shooting with dead children. It is then only fair that the NRA lobbyists who work to prevent gun control suffer the consequences of their work instead of others. Not exactly a great argument, but different from arguing for retaliation. Having dealt with some of the people who try to give nuance to extremely violent sounding things on Twitter, I'm just gonna say, no. If you're going to tweet something like that you deserve to deal with the results. -
QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 30, 2014 -> 03:57 PM) A glimpse into your future... You want a prediction of the future? "There will be more than 10 mass shootings (4 or more in an incident) this month." "In a few months another person who shouldn't have a gun will go on an even larger rampage and we'll be right back to this."

At some point I'm going to want this article again. Average WAR by pitcher's spot in the rotation. (Quintana is just slightly better than the average #2 starter).

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 30, 2014 -> 01:55 PM) Potential. No guarantee. And once the proposed law is passed and some other pyscho shoots someone you'll be screaming that there needs to be more regulation to stop it. Correct, because the right regulation is the one that isn't politically possible. Therefore, I will keep pointing out how right it is until it becomes politically possible.
