QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 31, 2013 -> 08:22 PM) I don't think that's why Hahn did it I don't either and that's why every time it screws up our roster in calling it out.

Let's assume that everyone in that industry should be in jail and start anew. It's pretty fair.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 31, 2013 -> 07:08 PM) Throw out all of that. I am curious what the confidence level of hitting 75% for having 89% at this point is. That's his point. It's impossible to say unless you can say with certainty how representative the early voting group is of the whole group, and we have no idea how that stands up historically. However, he only needs 72.3% of the remaining votes, if that helps.

Just be happy you're not one of the ones the police assumes are guilty.

QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 31, 2013 -> 06:19 PM) PK's resigning has nothing to do with his platoon splits. The last thing our bench needed was a right handed bat I got the "Dunn's platoon splits" line repeatedly when Konerko was re-upped as a reason why it made sense so I call back to that.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 31, 2013 -> 06:10 PM) I'd really like to see Frank, Maddux, Glavine, Biggio and Piazza all get in this year. Next year can be Pedro and Johnson. In 2016 the only sure fire HOFer is Griffey. That will really help clear the ballot and open the door for the next level guys like Mussina, Bagwell and Rock Raines. I think it is absolutely a joke that Rock Raines is not yet in the HOF. When is Rock's last year?

QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 31, 2013 -> 06:03 PM) I don't feel like either team "blew it" today. It was quite back and forth, The win was well-earned. Yeah, and I'm very much used to teams I follow losing like this. -
Helps when you don't get charged in the first place.

Fortunately only poor people go to jail for drugs.

Don't worry, as long as good honest folks can keep their cocaine.

Wow, and Indiana leaves a guy from Illinois completely open on an inbounds play at the end of a game. Thankfully that doesn't remind me of anything. -
Zero taste to that in theory, but a sandwich of it sounds pretty gummy.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 31, 2013 -> 04:24 PM) He's at .243/.340/.341/.680 for his career. Not good, but that provides at least some positive value. So was last year a random anomaly or a sign he's trending down and getting even more extreme as he ages?

Xantham gum also wouldn't help much.

Lakers talking to Cavs about a Bynum Gasol swap, Lakers would save over $20 million if they did so and waived Bynum counting luxury tax.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 31, 2013 -> 04:09 PM) How do you know he will play well in a platoon? It's not like he isn't respectable against left handed pitching. He still gets on base. I'd say a .612 OPS isn't very respectable even if he's still taking walks.

Very bad when also teamed with coconuts.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Dec 31, 2013 -> 12:09 PM) They just have to make him earn it. If Davidson has an excellent Spring & looks like an MLB player then he's the starter. If not, and maybe you get an injury or some real struggles, then he's going to have to earn it again in AAA. If Hahn came right out and said he was MLB ready and would be on the Opening Day roster then anything less than a stellar ST would probably be a disappointment, and he could risk setting the kid up for failure. I assume however that he'll be given a pretty low uniform number & regardless of his ST performance he'll stick around very late in order to experience the MLB clubhouse & work with the MLB hitting coaches. He's already been in the big leagues, I don't think experiencing a big league clubhouse is high on his list of needs.

QUOTE (professa @ Dec 31, 2013 -> 12:41 AM) That's not fair. Conor is left handed, so a better question to ask is if Davidson can put up a .736 ops against lefties. And I think he can. Conor could be an effective bench player. I'd keep him. Cheap and controllable. Connor would be fine on te bench if we had any open slots. We don't right now. If Davidson out produces Connor and earns the job then there is no where to put Connor except on another teams roster. I think it would be quite irresponsible to have it come to that point so I think Rick absolutely must dump at least one of these bench/if/DH guys before spring training starts.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 31, 2013 -> 08:57 AM) AFL reports had him 91-94, T95. He's not Axelrod at all. Very different pitcher. The question with him is, does he stay a starter? He's said he's more comfortable as a reliever, and he was that until late 2012. They may have converted him just to take him from thrower to pitcher, like they have with other guys like Jones and Petricka. But unlike those two, Bassitt was very successful as a starter, and his secondary repertoire blossomed. Should be interesting to see what happens. If he is a reliever, he could potentially be on the Sox sometime in 2014. If he can pop into the mid 90s regularly as a reliever, let him start in Charlotte this year but expect his long term role is the pen.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 08:48 PM) Had no clue Bassit can fire it up there at 96 if need be. I thought he was following in the foot steps of Axelrod and Leesman as guys who were soft tossing guys who somehow made it through the minors with great success using smoke and mirrors. I haven't seen him anywhere close to 96 but that was as a starter. He's definitely a solid level above Axelrod.

Wow was Man of Steel ever disappointing.
