  1. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 10:35 AM) I'm just amazed that people that have been watching him every day for 4 years still believe that he's magically going to learn to hit and that he's a "great defensive 2nd baseman." I'm not sure what I'd do with him at this point. He has no trade value. He still hasn't produced. I'd probably move him to 3rd because his glove plays better there, but his bat sure as hell doesn't. He's nothing more than a stop gap. I woulnd't move him to 3rd, but you're right on the use of the "Stop-gap" phrase. He wouldn't be the first guy to figure out hitting at age 27, but he ought to be viewed as a stop-gap right now. He'll be first year arb this offseason, this stretch at the end of the year is a good reason not to extend him. He's been slightly better this year, so offer him arb-1 this year, he gets $2.5 million or so for next year, he goes to ST as the incumbent 2nd baseman, and we play until someone steals the position from him by destroying Charlotte.
  2. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 07:45 AM) OK, fewer guns = fewer homicides, but does more gun laws = fewer guns? Well, over the past 15 years we've seen fewer gun laws and more guns.
  3. Just to throw it out there, wonder if Gordon's thrown in the towel completely on the year. It's not like the guys around him are trying hard, why should he?
  4. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 08:55 PM) I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not, but this is a solid point. Considering that the Twins and White Sox combined have 5 more wins than the Mariners and Astros, clearly you should be embarrassed by that post. But then, you're too busy celebrating white sox losses to actually know a thing about baseball.
  5. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 08:50 PM) Exactly. Yeah I know. It's totally unfair that the Indians get to pile up wins against crappy teams like the Twins and White Sox. They need to earn their playoff spots like the Athletics and Tigers are doing, by beating the Astros and the Mariners. Now that's how you earn a playoff spot! They should be proud.
  6. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 08:43 PM) Sorry Balta, it is pretty lame when you take 12 like that from the Sox. Yeah, I know, being 1/2 game out of the wild card absolutely stinks. You're totally right, incredibly lame. How would any team want to participate in the playoffs. What a joke. The real fun is winning 60 games because then you can b**** about it online and tell everyone how smart you are! That's the real goal of baseball. That's the opposite of lame.
  7. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 08:37 PM) I know, pretty lame after sweeping 3 four-game series from the Sox. You're so desperate for the sox to lose that you just described being 1/2 game out of the wild card (after today) as "pretty lame" so that people can't compare the Sox and the tribe.
  8. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 08:33 PM) And with all that, they are still just "contending" for the consolation prize to the consolation prize. They're 1 game out of the wild card. 1 game. 1 game.
  9. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 07:35 PM) I love that Semien is competing up here, but I really think he is going to need more MiLB time. The strikeouts, lack of walks, and ~1.000 BABIP tells me his numbers would be due for a yucky regression. Maybe he can be ready mid-season next year. Weirder things have happened than a guy like him just figuring it out, though. Also, I thought I was on the wrong page when I looked at Phegley's wRC+. That'll make you beg and plead for Flowers Welcome to the world of developing young talent.
  10. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 06:59 PM) Please. I don't think there is a combination of available free agents that will turn this team around next year, but I don't see it as likely that the Sox will cut payroll either. Do you still want to owe McCann ~$40M from 2016-18 which is the window they should be shooting for to contend? No thanks. I don't want any deadweight contracts on the books at that time. And again.
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 05:00 PM) If the Sox lose one game to the Twins, I think we got the 3rd pick locked up. If we sweep them, especially coming off a Sale win tonight (hopefully), then it becomes a little more open for them to pass us. They play Oakland, Detroit, and Cleveland after the Sox. I don't think the White Sox care enough to sweep off home plate, let alone to sweep the twins.
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 04:51 PM) The Twins are the only team I still think can lose enough to take the 3rd pick. Terrible team. The White Sox don't seem to care nearly enough to win the 5 remaining games it'll take to catch them. They mailed it in weeks ago.
  13. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 03:16 PM) He's not because he came in with no experience. But that's so White Sox, plugging holes with a drill. He did a helluva job last year. I think he was replaced by a hologram this year.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 02:39 PM) I can be pretty slow, I guess. I don't understand your post. I thought garbage was a pretty bad way to describe a player. I wouldn't call Dunn garbage. I wouldn't go that far. It seems a little too rude. (Translation: Ron's post was much, much worse than garbage).
  15. QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 02:20 PM) leury = piece of garbage That's not that harsh. If you wanted to really go after Leury you could compare him to your post.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 01:54 PM) The one that matters. Leury's got a good shot at mattering too, but you can say the one that matters more.
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 01:52 PM) Garcia scratched. Baby coming. Which garcia?
  18. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 01:39 PM) With a real manager you would have still been 15-20 games off your 90+ wins prediction. Actually it'd be a helluva lot closer with the defense setup IMO, and a large portion of the remainder is Paul Konerko getting old. If you predicted that coming into this season, congratulations, I'd love to see the post where you suggested he needed traded and replaced. If you don't have that, just go away and celebrate. Congratulations, you got a 90+ loss team, you must be so happy.
  19. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 01:33 PM) I'm sure you'll pull out another bootleg stat and predict the Sox to win 90+ games again next February. And you'll continue trolling until the rest of the site gets completely tired of it.
  20. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 01:25 PM) What better way to spend $60M over the next two years. They are not going to win anything in 2014 or 2015. You hope.
  21. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 01:13 PM) Upton was just one example, Balta. Do you think there's a team out there that would give up a prospect of value to take a chance on Pujols at a $60M discount courtesy of the White Sox? So basically the deal would be the White Sox paying $60 million for a prospect? I assume that there's a Bryce Harper available? Because otherwise this is the usual inanity you provide.
  22. QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 01:08 PM) I think I'm misunderstanding the argument here. I thought Marty was saying the Sox, who would be the Blue Jays in this scenario, would be getting a good prospect back for taking on a bad contract. The Blue Jays didn't get back a good prospect, they gave up good prospects. LOL, someone thinks the Braves will give up an extra player to save 1/2 of his deal?
  23. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 01:02 PM) Hmm from what I hear Freeman is a complete train wreck. Still, he's shown more promise than Ponder. What sense is he a train-wreck in? The stability of the coaching staff he's dealt with hasn't exactly been impressive.
  24. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 04:01 AM) This. At least I'm not the only one. If it wasn't giving up my fingerprints to the NSA, the fact taht I should lock but don't is why the iphone 5s fingerprint thing is a bit intriguing to me.
  25. QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 14, 2013 -> 10:27 PM) So are we comfortable with all the changes the government made? Some of the recent leaks have probably been a bigger deal. The NSA undermining internet encryption/preventing companies from using stronger encryption seems like it'll be a very big one in the tech world.
