QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 02:18 PM) WE traded Garcia to get Gio back; but then Williams gave him to Oakland when he paid double any reasonable price for a decent hitter in Swisher. Hopefully they are letting Hahn negotiate these trades. Eh, that was a pretty fair price for Swisher. One near-MLB ready starter for a young power-hitter under team control for a long time, with a couple low-level pitchers. The problem wasn't that we paid beyond any reasonable price, the problem wound up being that Swisher was awful.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 12:52 PM) If they really want to get creative and can get that cornerstone #3 bat why not even make Erik Johnson (or Quintana) available? Point is Peavy, Rios, and Crain are only going to get you so much in return. To do this right they have to think outside the box. If it brings you the right player, I have no problem making Quintana available, but it better be a blockbuster type trade. He's a LH starting pitcher under 25, half a decade from free agency, putting up ERA's in the mid-3's in a pitchers park. He has one of the top 20 or so best ERA's in the AL and it's only his 2nd season above A ball. He's basically already a number 2 starter. Basically we ought to be getting one of the top offensive prospects in baseball back for him, plus additional guys, to make it worth it. I seriously doubt anyone's going to give up that kind of value for a starting pitcher at this point, but I'd listen if it was offered.

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 12:21 PM) Danks for McCarthy who was a good prospect and Floyd was traded for Freddy Garcia after a decent year, plus both were top prospects with their clubs at the time. Quentin, Quintana and Thornton though, yes, good dumpster dives. Floyd was the definition of dumpster-diving. He was literally a throw-in in that deal, the Phillies were probably on the verge of dumping him, he'd failed a couple times for them already.

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 12:18 PM) Peavy is a ticking time bomb. It's simply too big of a risk to take when the Sox have so many holes to fill. You know, for once, I think Marty kinda has a point. I still think the reason to trade Peavy is that the sox are already loaded with pitching, but "making sure Jake doesn't get hurt again while we're paying for him" isn't the worst reason I've ever hear. -
QUOTE (Cknolls @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 05:41 AM) Maybe all the state and local govt's will stop using accounting fraud when compiling pension obligations. Rates of return need to be lowered to a more reasonable 4-5% and so to does the discount rate. But if then no politicians would get elected because people would see what a crock of s*** they've been selling hem. But I blame all the gov't workers for actually believing the nonsense these people spew. We get what we elect. A far as I'm concerned I hope it happens here sooner than later so we can be more realistic in our benefits for everyone. Why should pension plans project returns that are so far below the rates that have been observed historically?

By the way, given how good Hudson's stuff was today, the fact that the White Sox are challenging in this game really should be impressing us.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 10:24 PM) Yeah you would think they would know before others.. Need to see if he is on the bench or in the clubhouse gathering his things Hell, he shouldn't be on the bench if he was pulled for hustling either. Hit the showers and go away.
-
QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 10:23 PM) They would never do that to his trade value... His hustle was embarrassing. He flat out deserved it.
-
QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 10:19 PM) Seems strange to me to bench him for that a couple innings after the offense Since it was the 3rd out of the inning he just went out to RF directly and did not head back to the dugout after the double play.

QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 10:07 PM) It was probably just Robin being a pile of crap manager. Rios deserved it. Of course he deserved it weeks ago.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 10:03 PM) Lots of stuff on twitter about Rios hugging his teammates. Nothing that looks legit though, and they definitely didn't show that on the Sox broadcast. I didn't see that on the Braves broadcast either but i haven't been watching every second.

QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 09:24 PM) Found some interesting news....supposedly Mike Olt's medicals are the reason the Garza trade has disintegrated. So anyone who wanted him from Texas remove him from their lists. I realize it was the gamethread but thought you guys might find this interesting. You should post that (and a source link if possible) in the Peavy trade thread.

QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 09:01 PM) Also, I was referring to it being quiet throughout baseball. I don't want Hahn to make a move just to make one either. The answer to that question is "Kenny Williams is no longer a GM".

what a play by whoever that is at first

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 08:47 PM) Beckham is still awesome...time for him to win the AL batting crown this year Does he even have a shot at enough PA's to qualify?

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 08:05 PM) Eh, I think I handled myself pretty well. It's Sale. I just assumed anyone who walks within 60 feet, 6 inches of him strikes out . (Nicely setup). -
I think Crain would have been moved already if he hadn't been hurt. The other guys we are under less pressure to move, so we can wait to make sure we find the best offer.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 12:04 PM) I would go back & forth about Miggy, but I agree about the other four. Not with him being a free agent in 1.5 years. He'd be leaving us with nothing at that point, or we'd be signing him until he's 40 and paying him $25 million a year then.
