  1. Ok, I'll say it...Google Maps was better. The Yelp integration was nice, but I miss the transit map integration badly.
  2. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 07:01 AM) Still doesn't mean I think the entire world needs to adapt to my kid. It's logic like this that confuses and annoys me. This is more entitlement minded bulls***..."my kid is sooo important that I'm entitled to everyone else having to change what they can eat/do while around them". How about no...I want no part of that. Would that be the best of situations for any parent, including myself? Hell no, of course not. But on the flip side, I don't want my kid living in a bubble wrapped world...but that's exactly what you just asked for. If my kid has some sort of deficiency to THAT insane of a degree, I'd home school them, because who's to say some kid won't bring some peanut butter to school and do it anyway just to see what happens?! Oh, that's right...nothing. In other words, there is danger out there...and if you don't want them to ever be in any potential danger, wrap them in a bubble and keep them indoors and lifeless throughout your days...but this is no alternative IMO. Actually yes, you are insisting that the entire world needs to adapt to your kid, including the ones allergic to peanut butter.
  3. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 20, 2012 -> 05:50 PM) they have raised taxes so high that most people do not buy that particular product in the city anymore. typical dumbass politician move. just wait for the solution to make up for the lack of tax revenue; raise taxes on cigarettes again. And it's obviously a bad thing that people can't afford to smoke?
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 08:07 PM) Stone usually brings it up every time he starts A very groovy mutation.
  5. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 05:54 PM) "At a 14 billion+ loss to the American people and a boon to my reelection chances because I pandered to the auto unions." GM has about 75,000 direct, full time employees in the United States. If they pay, on average, $5000 in taxes total per year, a rate low for even people like Mitt Romney, then the U.S. government has received $15 billion in taxes solely from GM employees in the United States over that time period.
  6. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 05:44 PM) But again, you're not spending anymore money. How much does it cost to go to a community college for four years? 15k? How much is the City going to spend at John Stroger or assisted living or whatever else? Probably near the same or more. You're talking about the same time frame roughly, so it's not like pay it now and wait for the investment to pay off. Who pays for the person's food and shelter while at the community college?
  7. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 05:34 PM) Why would their be anymore spending? Presumably they go to college and get a good job and become a economic plus to society. They're not in jail or in public housing and they can pay for themselves. And again, they're not creating a new generation of people uninterested in obtaining an education and moving up in the world. I'd be happy to do a lot more things that are an economic plus to society over the long run. Now's a great time too since interest rates are negative relative to inflation over the 10 year period. But that actively requries spending money. It doesn't matter if it's a good investment in the long run to invest in education, bridges, high speed rail, electric cars, dams, solar power, smart grids, whatever...those can all be great investments in the long run, but when you have people who are focused solely on "Cutting spending", good investments get cut when they are listened to.
  8. QUOTE (Cali @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 05:13 PM) Knocking on all kinds of wood here, but if that's a clinching game and I miss it I'm gonna be f***ing PISSED. Hence the response: F***.
  9. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 05:22 PM) Let's win the next 3, so we don't have to worry about Saturday or Sunday. That is, unless the Tigers go on a run too. A 2-game lead going into the final 10 would be good with me. It will remain very difficult for the Tigers to "Go on a run" because if they try to do so, their defense will wind up costing them a game somewhere. Their longest win streak of the year is 6 games.
  10. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 05:00 PM) I have zero desire for my tax dollars to be used to help some dumbass that bought 4x the house they could afford just because times were 'good'. And simply being underwater doesn't mean you need any 'adjustments'. If you can still make the payments, then just too damn bad that your house isn't worth what it was. If you lost your job and need help, sure, come up with a program for that. Otherwise I don't want to pay YOUR mortgage, just like I don't want to pay your student loans either. There is a simple and historically accurate reply here. "Economics is not a morality play". It doesn't matter whether you don't want your money going to bail out a homeowner, if that helps the economy its the right move. It doesn't matter whether you don't want your money going to bail out a wall street bank, if that saves the financial system its the right move. You can take steps to make things more moral if you'd like, but they can't prevent things from working. If you want to apply morality? Great. Fix the system so wall street can't blow itself up.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 04:47 PM) Hard to see how this is such a calamitous situation... Might even be a good thing since the game the next day is at 1 AJ might play both games now I will be forced to spend yet another saturday sending angry emails to FOX and MLB about why I don't get the game I want to watch and instead I'm going shopping with the wife or something like that.
  12. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 04:29 PM) Too bad that money goes to the banks, not the citizens. The Fed might or might not be able to send money directly to citizens, but the only thing stopping Congress and the Fed from figuring out how to do so togehter is the Congress.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 04:25 PM) But get there really, really early. The line at the NYC Apple store started 3 days before the IPad 2 went on sale. The line at the NYC Store started at least 2 days ago for the iphone 5. But at least here, you can't start lining up anywhere until early Friday morning, because the Mall where the store is will clear y ou out overnight and you can't stay in the parking lot overnight.
  14. Repeating what I said in the other thread... F***.
  15. Thank you, that makes more sense. Franco Harris speaking next to a cardboard cutout of Paterno seems...fairly unsurprising, like it could have happened somewhat normally, and there was no link for more information.
  16. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 04:00 PM) Decided to jump in and upgrade to iPhone 5 Friday. Will AT&T store have them in stock? If I preorder online, they say it will take 3 weeks. No, the ATT store will probably not have them in stock on Friday either. Your best bets are goign to be...waiting the 3 weeks...or getting in the Apple store line.
  17. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 04:01 PM) Agreed, so instead of throwing money at the status quo, why not throw the money at creating more opportunities. Ditto with the schools. Instead of throwing money at the schools, throw it into the communities. Shoot, at this point i'm almost ready to pay those kids to show up and get decent grades. You graduate you get a free ride to a community college. Something along those lines. Hopefully a good percentage of those students would take that deal and at least for some generations there'd be some movement up in society. I don't know that there's data supporting it, but I'd be all-in for the concept if someone could establish that it would produce good results in terms of getting people to finish college. Problem of course is finding the money, and spending = bad.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 04:02 PM) Is that former Sox farmhand Jason Bourgeois? yes
  19. Chick Fil-A seemingly has declared that they will end their contributions to anti-gay political groups. They have also affirmed their commitment to treating people equally regardless of sexual orientation, however they will not go so far as to declare an official company policy against discrimination (Which is only necessary, again, since discrimination against gays is legal in a large section of the country). This is being judged as CFA backing down significantly.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 02:22 PM) And not any of the Feds QE spending... Conflating that with federal government spending is ron paul level out-there.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 02:19 PM) Too bad they spent all that money on raises... Maybe they could have hired more teachers and aids instead. The other problem with that statement is that they have a huge amount of excess capacity, mostly due to falling populations. http://www.pewtrusts.org/uploadedFiles/www...hiladelphia.pdf Which neglects the School Closing issue, which the Union leader called "The elephant in the room" during those negotaitions, but whatever.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 12:13 PM) Daryl Van Schouwen ‏@CST_soxvan FOX has selected the #WhiteSox vs. Tampa Bay game on 9/29 at U.S. Cellular Field, which changes game time from 6:10 p.m. to 3:05 Oh F***.
