  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2012 -> 01:59 PM) On the bright side, this and Europe are killing the energy markets. Crude is down almost $5, and under $100. Gas is down almost 10 cent a gallon and under $3. It's a wonderful negative feedback. Economy tries to strengthen in Dec-Feb, gas prices shoot upwards, gas prices start putting crimp in economic growth, economy slows down as a consequence, gas prices start to drop, economy will start to strengthen in the next couple months in reply.

  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 4, 2012 -> 10:06 AM) I would trade for Matt Thornton and take on that salary in a second before I would mess with Marmol. Marmol and the pressure-cooker that is NY, not a good idea. There's pretty good reason to suspect Soriano wouldn't be able to handle it either...he just doesn't have the same kind of stuff he had 5 years ago when he could be devastating. And Soriano's already become Cashman's own version of Adam Dunn in a way, the fans aren't going to give him much rope. Well of course you'd take on Thornton, but the White Sox aren't going to give him away for nothing, they're going to want talent back.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2012 -> 09:54 AM) You don't, and, They are. If that's the case...then the White Sox have a much better chance at that 2nd wild card than they did yesterday.
  5. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 4, 2012 -> 09:41 AM) I'm sick and tired of Brian Kelly embarrassing my alma mater. This kind of s*** didn't happen when Lou Holtz was in charge. I bet you it did and they were better at making it go away.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 4, 2012 -> 09:45 AM) Fair enough. I just don't really subscribe to the "youth" theory...I think once you reach this level of play, it's a matter of getting the reps...more than reaching some magical age. I think it's going to take a lot of mlb ab's before he possibly reaches his massive potential. Which is exactly why I've spent the last 6+ months being so insistently annoying about the fact that this kid needs to play every day.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 4, 2012 -> 09:37 AM) Whoa, I misread your previous post, I thought the Cubs would pick up the salary. Do you actually think it's a good idea to pick up Marmol & the $15 million due to him right now? When he can't throw a strike and wasn't very good last year either? The Yankees already have two relievers that are way better than Marmol anyway. That just sounds like an awful idea, that Cashman should not even consider. If I'm sitting in Cashman's chair and I have a blank check and my job is to continue winning pennants and world series games, yes, I'd take on Marmol, that would not be the worst risk ever, but I'd make sure he passes a serious physical first (so that I know his current issue isn't that he's about to blow out an elbow). If ownership is seriously pushing me to get down below the luxury tax threshold, and I'm staring Cano and Granderson's extensions in the face, then no, I wouldn't even think about it.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 4, 2012 -> 09:23 AM) No way. Maybe if Robertson can't handle the closer role. Marmol is absolutely terrible now, are you really gonna trust him right now? There's way better relievers to be had out there if you are desperate, which I don't think they need to be yet considering who they still have in their bullpen. Who out there would be easier to be had rapidly for next to nothing in terms of organizational talent (basically just money)?
  9. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 4, 2012 -> 09:17 AM) They would have to pay his whole salary and throw in a prospect to get rid of him today. Seriously, if you were the Yankees, you have their financial resources, and the Cubs made Marmol available if the Yanks ate most of the $15 million he has on his deal, wouldn't you at least consider it? Yeah there's luxury tax penalties on that money, but you just lost the best reliever ever.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 4, 2012 -> 08:58 AM) Robertson's the best reliever in baseball right now, statistically. Whether he can do the job as the closer, that remains to be seen. At least they have 2 good candidates before they have to make a desperation move. I hear Carlos Marmol might be available.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2012 -> 08:53 AM) Wade, maybe. Good luck with LeBron. Then again they'd get a 50,000 game suspension from David Stern for touching one of those two. And the biggest applause from every other arena in the league every night for the rest of their careers. Fair trade?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 3, 2012 -> 09:13 PM) I concur. And I had no idea that LA had a subway? There are some light rail lines that do go underground at times, Not sure whether it counts as a "full subway system".
  13. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 4, 2012 -> 02:09 AM) Random thought: WTF is the point of the "Baby on Board" sticker? "Oh wow, there's a baby in there, I shouldn't drive recklessly." "OK, I can cut this guy off and if he hits a tree it's OK, I didn't see a "Baby on Board" sticker." Why...and how...should this affect anyone's driving habits? "Now people will stop intentionally ramming our car!"
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 4, 2012 -> 07:42 AM) Didnt know a fake Oscorp building was One World Trades Sure looked like it.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 4, 2012 -> 08:46 AM) The road to the finals will get harder for the heat, but not as hard as it could have been. I'm pretty positive that we are looking for another West team to beat them. I wasn't confident at all about the Bulls, but now that there's no legit challenger left in the East, the only team left I think has a shot is the Thunder.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2012 -> 10:43 PM) The only one of the Big three they can stop is Bosh. They have no answer for James or Wade. Unless they set out to injure one of them.
  17. I will continue to hold out hope that Danks will find his groove this month.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2012 -> 09:29 PM) Soriano was a disaster last year as a closer. Plus we have seen what happens when guys get moved out of their roles in the pen Theyve been saying for a while that Robertson is next in line as it stands now.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2012 -> 09:03 PM) The Yankees are trying to get out of the luxury cap death zone. They're going to have a long way to go with Cano and Granderson up for extensions soon.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 3, 2012 -> 09:02 PM) LOL. Looking back, maybe it would have been the better move to have Santiago in the starting rotation as the 5th starter and replacement for Danks. I haven't checked fangraphs since a couple of starts ago, but his velocity was off by at least 2 MPH from 2011. Still down about 2 mph
