QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2012 -> 08:13 PM) The non-rain, rain delay Looks severe but is north of the Cell now -
Spiderman trailer out on ITunes. Seriously, it's not even built yet, and you are already ripping the spire off of One World Trades?

2012-2013 NCAA Basketball thread
Balta1701 replied to He_Gawn's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2012 -> 04:52 PM) The irony is that it was Kentucky years ago who wanted to go to an on-campus format. Then they lost their chance at an undefeated season playing at Assembly, and that was that. -
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 3, 2012 -> 04:36 PM) Nah (imo) this is just 2 people who have to much time on their hands because they cant discuss the Bulls due to an injury. Unfortunately my reaction to such an event is to get annoyed/angry and thus become a b**** when I post, Steve's response was to be melancholy which didnt go well with my mood and so we fight each other instead of accepting the reality. And my response is to wind up overwhelmed with statistics.

(Apologies in advance for making that into the thread topic).

Jared Mitchell 2012 - Improvement on the way?
Balta1701 replied to chisoxfan09's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 3, 2012 -> 03:12 PM) Well then Ben Zobrist if you'd like. He has a 21 K% and a 18 BB% and is pretty much a 15 HR guy. It's just hard to find any speed players to compare because most of them walk considerably less than Mitchell does. So power hitters seem to be the only ones who match up in those 2 categories. Bottom line though, 20% is nothing to be worried about. 15% or less would be perfect, 25% would be really pushing it. But 20% is just fine. Zobrist is a career 15% BB/PA guy, and he's had 2 solid seasons with 20+ HR. -
Jared Mitchell 2012 - Improvement on the way?
Balta1701 replied to chisoxfan09's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 3, 2012 -> 03:11 PM) Not if your walk rate is virtually identical to your strikeout rate There are only a handful of guys in MLB who keep up that kind of walk rate. The only guy in the last 3 seasons to have a walk rate greater than 17.5% was Jose Bautista, last year. It's still pretty darn good if he's walking 15% of the time, but the strikeouts could still be an issue at that point, winds up depending on the pwoer. -
Jared Mitchell 2012 - Improvement on the way?
Balta1701 replied to chisoxfan09's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 3, 2012 -> 02:43 PM) 20% is definitely acceptable. Right now, Matt Kemp, Ryan Braun, Curtis Granderson and Jay Bruce all have rates higher than 20%. Right now, Mitchell has a 19.8 K%, and a 18.9 BB%. That's Jose Bautista and Joey Votto like rates over the past 3 seasons. Note the common thread in those names though...every one of them is a serious power bat. If you're putting up 10-15 home runs, then 20% K's is going to leave you with a low average and low OBP. If you're hitting 30+ HR, that's when you stop caring about the 20% strikeouts. -
10 biggest injuries in Chicago Sports history

QUOTE (fathom @ May 3, 2012 -> 02:27 PM) Carlos Quentin in 2008 Thomas + Ordonez in 2004, Thomas again in 2005 (same injury), Thomas in 2001. -
Simmons elaborates his "NBA Title Footnotes" tweet into an article.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 3, 2012 -> 02:17 PM) That issue is so overblown. As long as the court decision exists you're correct. The moment it is overturned, if that ever happens, that will be the stampede.

Find that changeup, Johnny! -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 3, 2012 -> 01:43 PM) I agree with everything you said. But as Balta said, it's Carlos Zambrano, all bets are off with him.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 3, 2012 -> 01:38 PM) While I understand this...what does it have to do with my post where I simply pointed out the fallacy that is the SCOTUS is full of young republicans...when it isn't? I'd say that was mostly in reply to your point 1, which I read as minimizing the importance of the next Supreme Court appointee in terms of how completely it could overhaul perhaps the most divisive social issue in the country.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 3, 2012 -> 01:01 PM) Production in minors has been less than what you'd expect from an elite hitting prospect. And if he isn't an elite hitting prospect, how long do you wait for him to produce given that he only plays LF. .856 OPS as a 22 year old in AAA despite being bothered the whole year due to a broken hand suffered in ST is pretty darn elite if you include the age.

But dude, that's talking about Zambrano...

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 3, 2012 -> 12:05 PM) Its just basically best case scenario for Democrats. Even if Obama should lose, Romney is far more palatable than Santorum or Gingrich. If you believe Romney's current campaign proposals though, George W. Bush was far more palatable than Rmoney (See: the Paul Ryan budget).

QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 3, 2012 -> 11:39 AM) 1) I don't see the GOP gaining control of both houses anyway, so unless they did, not to mention the required vast majorities, it wouldn't matter anyway...and the odds of that happening are next to zero. 2) And no, the court doesn't. The youngest member of that court was born in 1960, and it's Kegan. The next youngest is Roberts (1955), and then Sotomayer (1954). The rest were born between 1933 and 1950. The court is pretty even weighted in terms of age. Anthony Kennedy was the Swing vote in the early 90's that upheld Roe v. Wade, and will turn 76 this summer. Although he comes up as one of the most pro-big-business votes in the Court's history...if a modern Republican nominee replaces him, there's every reason to believe that Roe v. Wade and probably Griswold v. Connecticut (which established the legal basis for a right to privacy) would be overturned.

QUOTE (farmteam @ May 1, 2012 -> 07:51 PM) Oh, I agree that it's terrible he felt he had to resign and that such pressure even existed in the first place. I guess it just slightly refocuses the attack from Romney's campaign specifically to a significant portion of the GOP in general. here's the next day's story on this "firing", where even though the Romney campaign may have asked him to stay on, they were already sidelining him and removing him from campaign events he was supposed to be involved in.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2012 -> 10:42 AM) The Sox owe less than that to Rios. Well yeah, but we also owe Rios $12.5 million for 2014 (+$1 million buyout) while Morneau's contract is over after 2013.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2012 -> 10:36 AM) The standards are different, duh. I apologize to your liberal all-knowingness. Clearly, if I walked into the other thread and replied to your "Maybe you should vote for Romney" line with "perhaps I should, he probably has a black friend", everyone would be confused and wonder why I brought that up and probably legitimately start making the reverse racist accusation, whereas here, we're on about the 10th post, and it's clearly me who deserves to be made fun of for not understanding whatever it is about the Democrats that we're making fun of.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2012 -> 10:33 AM) Well obviously. She's a Democrat and that means she gets the "Not a racist" for life card. And obviously, she's a Democrat so that means Republicans assume she's a racist, apparently, because otherwise I can't figure out why any of these posts exist.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 3, 2012 -> 10:20 AM) When he was in B'ham in 2009, he took the ball the other way a lot. And one thing, IIRC, that they needed him to work on was actually being able to pull the ball to more effectively exploit his natural power.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 3, 2012 -> 10:15 AM) totally. and it proves how non-racist she is. (You do realize that the reason she's talking about this has nothing to do with her proving she's not racist and instead this is one of those "resume padding" discussions, right?)
