QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 6, 2012 -> 05:51 AM) http://movies.yahoo.com/news/avengers-scor...-154806723.html (#2 Opening Day to Harry Potter:DH, #1 overall Opening Weekend) And the line about a certain favorite poet/bard in residence at Stratford-on-Avon (in reference to Thor) Think Kenneth Branagh as director! $200.3 million through yesterday, blows away the $170 million of HP7-2. Projecting the biggest Sunday haul ever today also (hoping for $50 million, previous best Sunday was $43 for Dark Knight).

Garza will miss tomorrow's start with Flu, Wood called up.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 5, 2012 -> 11:42 PM) And with Bourn, you'd expect part of that improvement is simply more time and familiarity with the pitchers in the NL East, comfort level of coming into spring training with the same team, not being placed on the pressure-cooker of leading off in the middle of a stressful August/September pennant race and also being constantly reminded of the fact that they sent a couple of their best young prospects to the Astros to acquire you. Or it's the fact that Bourn is currently sporting a .396 BABIP.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ May 5, 2012 -> 11:28 PM) The ALs Venters and Kimbrel, I've always wondered how awesome it would be to watch 2 guys like that at the back end of the bullpen and I'll kinda get my wish. Anyone think Youk might be made be made available when he returns from the DL?? Maybe if their top prospect Middlebrooks performs theyd let him go for Floyd, Thornton, and somethin else.....Wishful thinking and just a thought with Bobby V talkin smack about him. If you're willing to take on the extra $6 million that he'd be owed if you took him on towards the end of July, you might be able to pull that off...but what exactly is the point? He's a free agent at the end of this year unless you pick up a $13 million option, he doesn't belong at 3b anyway, and he had a down year last year probably partially because of health/being at 3b instead of 1b.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 5, 2012 -> 10:43 PM) They don't have to bring up more than a handful of players (3-4-5-6 guys), and their salaries are pro-rated for just that month, right? Correct on both, I'd guess. Each team might have a million or two worth of space to add, but they're starting at $174-$175 for a reason, to stay under that tax. -
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ May 5, 2012 -> 10:40 PM) Best site I know of for contracts (Hoops Hype) One more year on his rookie deal, then a restricted FA with a qualifying offer starting at $7.6 mil. Why HH doesn't have Westbrook's extension I don't know. If you count that, they're going to be right up against the Luxury Tax if they want to extend Harden without losing the rest of their roster.

QUOTE (knightni @ May 5, 2012 -> 10:34 PM) Vance Worley would work for me. Philly can afford to move a SP to shore up their bullpen. Philly is sitting at $174.5 million team salary in the USA Today version here, and the Luxury tax level is $178 million. Phils are sitting at that level for a reason, just like the Red Sox, so that they don't hit the luxury tax level and get compound penalties if they go over it another year. -

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 5, 2012 -> 10:01 PM) Also, a France joke? Is this 2004? 2002 might work, we do have an election coming up with the Republican party insisting beyond all reason that we need to invade a country whose name starts with IRA-.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 5, 2012 -> 08:38 PM) Why, you all got what you wanted, except becoming f***ing robots for the government. Line up for your chip. Oh, right, health care is not far enough left, we're not a marxist state (yet), and we haven't become France. If you like that style so damn much, go live there and leave us the hell alone. Oui Oui. If you want poor people dying because they can't afford health care so badly, Afghanistan would be happy to have you. Fair reply?

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 5, 2012 -> 09:42 PM) It was awesome, and pretty damn funny. . It did NOT seem like almost 2 1/2 hours though. I didn't see the second extra scene. What did I miss?

QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 5, 2012 -> 08:12 PM) If he hasn't developed one by now . . . 24 year olds never, ever, ever change pitches or get better on them.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2012 -> 08:02 PM) He has got to find an off-speed pitch. Whether it is the screwball or a change, he has to get hitters off of his fastball. His fastball could be a pretty solid pitch on its own if he could control it, he's averaging 93.8 on that, but at least today he couldn't get it down.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 5, 2012 -> 08:09 PM) I think that's about as far as Adam can hit a ball... He hit one across 2 states in 2004.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 5, 2012 -> 07:16 PM) The biggest mistake is not getting too greedy and knowing when the right time to take a profit is...or holding onto stocks too long in hopes they will eventually rebound in value because their price was ONCE $124 per share, so it has to return to that point (false) logically. Of course...that's not exactly a good comparison, since holding onto a guy gives you the ability to have the guy perform for you. Perhaps a more apt comparison is buying and selling gasoline for profit. If you wanted, you could fill up every gas tank you have when gas drops to $2.75, then sell it all when gas is $3.50 and turn a profit. Or, you could also drive, using up that gasoline, but fail to turn a profit because you used the gasoline. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 5, 2012 -> 06:59 PM) Jones is a right handed Matt Thornton if he throws enough strikes. I'm not very high on Santiago myself, but if he's the 5th or 6th option, we have seen worse. Santiago's where Boone Logan was when he came up, except Santiago has better raw stuff. The kid came up too soon and is simply overmatched...right now, but there's serious promise in his stuff if he can boost the control

QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 5, 2012 -> 06:55 PM) it's a partial rebellion. what about Obama wanting more manufacturing in the US? I suppose it was just another campaign slogan. When it comes down to it, he doesn't mean it. Yeah, he's a Centrist Democrat who will favor so-called Free Trade over domestic, union jobs when it comes down to it. He's established that many times. Of course, that's not a message that gets publicized. And 68 Democrats in Congress aren't going to matter unless you can somehow get the Republican Majority to come out against a "Free trade" proposal that makes big money for big business and hurts worker rights.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 5, 2012 -> 06:57 PM) I wonder if it's the slider or the change that's hurting his arm. And the fact that he throws a 96 mph fastball from Liriano's arm slot.
