QUOTE (greg775 @ May 8, 2012 -> 05:11 PM) Sounds like he's relieved to be far away from Chicago. And perhaps, from the former manager as well?

I have a structural geology textbook that illustrates a trace element substitution by having a cow in a parking space. I also once had a physics textbook that included the phrase "The largest escalator in the free world".

QUOTE (farmteam @ May 8, 2012 -> 03:56 PM) This. Just like MLB. You also then need a place where you can put an 18 year old that isn't "immediately on the roster" and to have the union accept some version of "You don't get service time starting until you make the big leagues".

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 8, 2012 -> 03:44 PM) I haven't gotten that feel at all. They spent an entire day on arraigning these guys, something that normally takes 10 minutes. They're being extremely patient with these guys. They're being extremely patient with them to the point that it allows them to create a show (with requests like the one noted there)...but they have no choice but to do that since the court itself has so little credibility. In a normal court, they'd have been in, arraigned, and out, and if someone tried to make a scene, the judge would have simply dealt with it and moved on with the proceedings, and that wouldn't have cost the court any Credibility, whereas a kangaroo court denying the people the right to speak every day costs the kangaroo court whatever little credibility it has.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 8, 2012 -> 02:55 PM) Intentionally trying to throw the case? So far I've gotten the impression that these hearings are a trainwreck.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 8, 2012 -> 02:26 PM) dont break greg please. He is on loan from KC, we have to return him sometime, all pieces need to be in place. We could just send him to Toronto after he fails in Chicago and hope that they pick up most of the bill.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 8, 2012 -> 02:17 PM) Yep pretty much. In the grand scheme of things my existence will be as insignificant as a grain of sand on the beach. Have you ever stopped to think about how fascinating the existence of a grain of sand on a beach has been? Formed as hydrogen in the big bang, combined into silicon and oxygen in the core of a star, trapped into the solar system nebula as it formed, growing into a planetesimal then suriving to be a part of Earth, cycling through Earth maybe tens of times into and out of the mantle, forming into a big body of granite, being exposed to the elements for millions of years, washed down from the high lands to the ocean, transported along the length of the ocean, eventually deposited into some new sedimentary rock where it gets cycled back into the Earth again...

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 8, 2012 -> 02:07 PM) I'd even be happy if they set up a true minor league system for these kids to play in like MLB and NHL do. This set up now is the worst of both worlds. The fact that such a big deal is made of the draft (in both this league and the NFL) really gets in the way. You can't draft Derrick Rose #1 and then have him not on your team that year.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 8, 2012 -> 01:44 PM) That's what he said, but he was never going to college in the first place, everyone knew that. If the NBA rule was in place and he had a full recruitment, I'm just saying that there would be some money changing hands somewhere. How could there not be? Instant NCAA title contender with him. Of course, the Eddy Curry led Depaul and Tyson Chandler led UCLA teams might have had something to say about that.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 8, 2012 -> 01:24 PM) I've asked for Lillibridge to play against any and all lefties, and preferrably for De Aza. I think only time I wanted Lillibridge playing 3rd over Morel was after he had some good moments on the west coast and team was actually playing well. Once the Sox sent Sale to the bullpen, the chance at contending this year went out the window (in my opinion) and I was all for Morel playing every day. Wait, you'd take the one "young guy" under our control for 5 more years who is actually hitting and tell him that he doesn't get to face lefties because his first 20 at bats against them haven't been good enough, so he doesn't get the chance to work on that any more?
-
QUOTE (fathom @ May 8, 2012 -> 01:18 PM) Not at all, but it doesn't mean you construct a bench so poorly that when you do give Morel time off, you're benching him with someone who has no business being in the majors (Escobar). I really don't mind Morel playing every game the rest of the way. Don't you pretty much ask for Lillibridge to play over Morel every day and pretty regularly say that it's terrible that Morel is getting playing time?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 8, 2012 -> 01:19 PM) That is just arguing for the sake of arguing. If we're going to take the position that several more years of college would be a very good thing for many of these NBA players, then we ought to be able to back that up, rather than just asserting.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 8, 2012 -> 01:13 PM) You really think that there is no maturation process that goes on between high school and college? I think I'm asking if you can prove that college is what does it?
-
QUOTE (fathom @ May 8, 2012 -> 12:42 PM) Kenny made a huge mistake in not getting a competent, veteran back-up 3rd baseman heading into the year. With Alexei's track record of slumping early and Morel struggling so much last year, having Escobar as the back-up option was a very bad decision. I said this the other day, but Blake DeWitt would be a much better fit on this roster than Escobar is. I see you're back on the "We're not rebuilding" side of the fence.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 8, 2012 -> 01:05 PM) At the very least guys like Dwight and LeBron would probably have grown up a bit more and understand how to handle of the situations they have completely failed at. Solely playing devil's advocate to see why I'm wrong...the NFL has most of its players go through almost a full college career right? And yet, doesn't that league regularly have people whining about contracts, fathering a dozen kids with 8 different partners, getting arrested for Drugs/DUI, doing everything TO does to make himself look silly, etc. Heck, didn't Wade go to college and still wind up with paternity issues?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 8, 2012 -> 12:31 PM) Anytime you want to send me $15 out of every $1000 you earn, feel free. I have a big problem with the government wasting my money. Don't you pretty regularly complain about how onerous the rejection processes are for things like OASDI benefits and how high the rejection rates are for initial applications?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 8, 2012 -> 12:07 AM) Molina pitched 4 scoreless, before getting shelled. In his ONE outing in AAA. Overreact much, folks? Stop it, you know better. A 23 year old with 300 total minor league innings who gets beaten up in his first start at AAA is never going to amount to anything and you can always project everyone's future performance based on what they did today. Quintana will be the ace of aces, Philip Humber is a lost cause.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2012 -> 07:09 PM) Quintana has less AA and above experience than Nestor Molina, FWIW. Guess they consider him more expendable. Any chance Quintana was just already on the 40 man roster and that's why he got the callup?
-
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 7, 2012 -> 11:06 AM) I haven't seen a thread for this but was kind of away from baseball yesterday.. we have called up Jose Quintana to replace Axelrod and be the starter in Chris Sale's place? I think we called up Quintana because we weren't sure if Sale was ready to go and we needed more "arms who could throw a couple innings" out of the bullpen yesterday with the double header scheduled. Quintana was on his normal schedule and they didn't want to call Molina up to the bigs, so they called up Quintana and gave Molina the start in AAA. I believe Quintana has already been sent back down after his outing yesterday. Not sure what they'll do with Axelrod since they sent him down.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ May 7, 2012 -> 09:37 PM) Along those lines, wondering if the gov't has ever done any studies of the effects of the procedure on women? Many studies have been done on that over the years.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 7, 2012 -> 09:32 PM) What sucks is there was no reason for this game to be a day/night DH. The 2nd game should have started 1/2 hour after the first one ended. Lol, you haven't paid attention to baseball in 15 years have you? -
QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 7, 2012 -> 09:25 PM) Is it too early to question Molina as a top of the rotation prospect? Yes.

QUOTE (Baron @ May 7, 2012 -> 08:47 PM) I was really excited when we got him.But its looking more and more like he is a reliever. He has been giving up way to many hits and to no surprise he got shelled. H Christ, you've got a kid who is barely at AA, has like a 25/3 k/walk ratio, and you're projecting him as a reliever?
