  1. QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 2, 2012 -> 09:33 AM) The point is that I think Jackson could find enough playing time. I'd rather see him on the 25 man roster, in place of one of the relievers. With the number of question marks in the starting rotation, I can't blame them at all for the 7 man pen. I wouldn't be surprised if we hit one of those "The Pen is really tired and needs a starter to throw 8" days before the end of April even with a 7 man pen.
  2. QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 2, 2012 -> 08:33 AM) Criminals have rights too and use them. So while other countries do arrest people as precautions, we do not. So criminals may visit stores and other targets as customers and there is very little that can be done. Of course, when the investigators have time, that is one of the first things they check. And vigilantes may do things like call 911 a lot before they finally get frustrated and decide to go deal with the problem.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 1, 2012 -> 11:17 PM) I am not crazy about that team right now. Considering how much they have spent in the last 2-4 years, I think they are going to struggle to make the playoffs. They're like the other Sox in that they have a whole lot of guys with major room for improvement over last year. They have a higher ceiling than our Sox I'd say, but there's also no guarantee of anything, and they're facing tougher competition for that division.
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 2, 2012 -> 07:57 AM) Theo is like the Italian cruise ship captain. Crash the ship, but jump off board before everyone else struggles to find lifeboats.I think you've got better references you can use that are much more well established. The "Calipari" move, perhaps.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 2, 2012 -> 08:38 AM) Zach Stewart makes the 25-man roster. At this point, he's probably not considered a prospect anymore, so we'll archive this thread shortly. Close it but don't archive it. I'll call it 50/50 he's back in Charlotte before the end of the year.
  6. QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 1, 2012 -> 09:08 PM) I don't have anything else to add. This guy has what is IMO the best pitch in baseball -- a fast two seamer. Let him develop some more, let's see what happens. Actually, I'm not a huge fan of his 2-seamer right now, I think that's his biggest weakness and why he got hit hard yesterday...he doesn't get the kind of sink on that pitch he needs to. I don't think he's getting "On top of it" enough.
  7. QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 2, 2012 -> 09:03 AM) The obvious answer is a platoon with Dunn at DH. Adam Dunn has no business facing left handers, period!!! He has never been very good against them, and has a lot to prove, just to be the DH vs. RHP. I'll accept that he has to play against Right handers, and I'm hoping for a big rebound. That gives him the biggest share of at bats, but he doesn't belong in the lineup vs. southpaws. A platoon DH is an incredible waste of a roster spot. If we were going with 6 pitchers in the bullpen, possibly that's tolerable, but come on, a platoon DH? That might work if both guys can play the field regularly.
  8. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 1, 2012 -> 07:30 PM) I agree with Kennedy when it comes to questioning the limit to Congressional power, and if there are written assurances that this applies to nothing else, I think he'd uphold it...and I wouldn't blame him. But if there are no such assurances, this just sets future precedent for Congress to "raise taxes" without actually raising taxes. While I can't see the writing on the wall of sneaky s*** they'll do if granted such power...if it wasn't something to worry about a justice like Kennedy wouldn't be questioning that very thing. It's the Supreme Court. They have the right to create that standard. The Court hasn't previously outlined any "Test" where the commerce clause's authority applies over rewarding/penalizing economic decisions. It could choose to do so in this case if it so wanted.
  9. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Apr 1, 2012 -> 08:06 PM) Was Peavy throwing all fastballs again ? Not all fastballs, I saw at least a bit of offspeed stuff.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 1, 2012 -> 07:57 PM) It's getting close to the time where we have to admit Cooper can't work magic with every single Jeff Marquez or Stewart that comes along. Not because of the 5 runs he gave up today in 2 innings of garbage time, but there's just nothing that makes one believe that he can be a consistently successful starter at the big league level. Dude, he's a 25 year old who the Blue Jays bounced back and forth between being a starter and a MLB pitcher, and the Sox have had him for less than 12 months. Going into his 25 year old season, the Phillies had given up Gavin Floyd for nothing, Jon Garland had been putting up ERA's close to 5 despite having 3 full MLB seasons under his belt, Matt Thornton was 2 years away from ever seeing the big leagues, Brandon McCarthy was throwing the first 2 seam fastball of his career, etc.
  11. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 1, 2012 -> 06:50 PM) there had been a number of breakins and maybe the criminal had eluded apprehension. They had. So, he followed a kid. The kid got scared, started running, he started chasing harder. Why would the kid be scared?
  12. Second straight hard single right up the middle for Mitchell. If nothing else, these guys are really doing great work "Right up the middle".
  13. Rough inning already for Stewart. Can't thorw a strike, can't get the ball down.
  14. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 1, 2012 -> 06:37 PM) selecting an old fatso to fight does increase win % No, you've got it backwards. You need to be a 190-200 lb man taking on a 150 lb or smaller kid.
  15. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 1, 2012 -> 06:35 PM) haha, you do know that the NBC reporting where Zimmerman says "He looks suspicious, he's black". was faked right? they even admit it now. Why do you think I've paid any attention to NBC Rather than reading the actual transcripts? You know, the part where he says that the kid is so scared he's running away? And the part where he says "These a**holes always get away"?
  16. Red Sox put Felix Doubront and Daniel Bard in their rotation in the 4-5 slots, Alfredo Aceves goes to the bullpen. Meanwhile, Andrew Bailey is having thumb problems and will leave the team to have it examined. Status for opening day currently up in the air.
  17. Thornton's butt looks bigger.
  18. Decent batwork by Jared Mitchell here also. And whoever this "Morrison" person is.
  19. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 1, 2012 -> 06:18 PM) i guess. but right now what witnesses are saying happened is Zimmerman was going to his car to leave and was jumped by Trayvon. Then Trayvon got shot. No witnesses have said that other than Zimmerman that I've seen. And as far as I can tell, the confrontation took place far away from his car, in someone's lawn/along the sidewalk.
  20. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Apr 1, 2012 -> 06:07 PM) Sure, but let me stop all of you there. You're all operating under the assumption that Zimmerman did more than just that, that he initiated the physical confrontation. And sorry, being freaked out doesn't suffice in that situation. If it did, I know a girl who would legally be allowed to kill every homeless person she has ever walked by, as she is terrified of them all. No, no one said that. I said that following a kid and then approaching him without identifying yourself and your intentions is clearly an aggressive act. It's an act that a normal person would respond to with fear. It's an act where a reasonable person would figure harm could come to them if they didn't get away. And if they got away and then the person found them again...it's an act where a reasonable person would feel cornered and have a legal right to lash out, to "Stand their ground" if you will. He started the whole thing by following a kid through the neighborhood and then getting out of the car and approaching the kid. That was the first aggressive move. "These a**holes always get away", so this time I'm going to follow this one so he doesn't. What happened after that, no one knows, but if Zimmerman doesn't do that first set of aggressive actions towards the kid, follows the 911 operator's suggestions, and doesn't decide "This a**hole isn't getting away", then he wouldn't have wound up needlessly killing a 17 year old kid.
  21. 2 RBI single for Lillibridge. LHP got the ball up and in on Brent and he inside-outed it into short right.
  22. Good innings for both Santiago and Reed.
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 1, 2012 -> 05:51 PM) Just make sure there's a 50 pound and 12 year age difference. Pipsqueaks must die. And it might not hurt if the victim is black.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 1, 2012 -> 05:48 PM) 3 run homer off the bat of Viciedo. DJ called it, down the left-field line...one-armed swing. Viciedo took a good pitch off the end of the bat and still hit it probably 350 feet. WInd helped a little but man. He makes bad contact and it's a HR.
  25. Worst HR call ever for Viciedo. "That's foul. ... ... ... ... It's comin' back it's a fair ball and you can put it on the board y-es!"
