  2. Actual policy matter...Portugal doing pretty much what one expects under these circumstances.
  3. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 10:01 AM) I'm excited for the inevitable meltdown when Melo gets back. I don't see how these guys play well together. Someone's going to have to give up the shots. Honestly, this is Mike D'Antoni's offense. THere's no plausible reason why that should be a problem.
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 09:55 AM) I know it is a computer program, but I am thinking there are going to be some crazy Circus Trip-esque type roadtrips that will come about to make this work. Those are never fun I don't imagine it would be incredibly difficult to pull off as long as there weren't any other really odd quirks trying to be put into the system at the same time. 162 games, 81 for each team at home, then the nice benefit of 6 games against each other, and 10+ offdays as wild cards to move things around. As long as you schedule those 2 teams first and build the rest of the league around that, its' do-able. The real worry is rainouts/makeup days. You've really got to make sure you plan in advance so that there are days when the ballpark actually is open late in the year.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 09:51 AM) There was something out there about specifically targeting fox news employees personally and trying to find things about them and their personal lives. I am on a different computer right now, so I can't go back and find the link. Ok, now it's clear, we're crossing up 2 different posts. Alpha's post was on the Obama campaign creating local-based rapid response groups, the other post was about Media Matters paying people to snoop into Fox personality private lives.
  6. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 09:45 AM) Basic political messaging, "correcting" "inaccuracies" about their candidate while highlighting flaws in the GOP? They had similar things in 2008 as the article points out, and I still don't understand how "Private lives being private, and the role of media to report the news instead of making it" applies to this? Or personal liberties? I haven't read anything beyond that article alpha posted, so maybe there's background knowledge you have that I don't. But that article lays out Grassroots Campaigning 101 and I don't see what you're taking issue with. Usually the "Personal freedom" aspect of this involves complaining about the fact that you're asking citizens to report bad things that their neighbors do to the government, and that sounds nazi-like enough to make it evil.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 09:39 AM) I would bet we see some recovery in those numbers too once one candidate gets to control the message. I'm going to go with 2k5 here until proven otherwise. Rmoney's favorability crash has been what, a 3 week polling phenomenon at this point? If this campaign has taught us nothing else, it's that "3 week trends" tell us pretty much nothing.
  8. On average, when a country is playing a world cup soccer game, stock trading volume in that country falls ~45%.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 09:31 AM) None of those guys have the high risk deliveries like Peavy or Johnson. Were you one of the people who argued earlier this winter that no one could have guessed that Peavy would get seriously hurt when we traded for him? Seriously can't recall who that was.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 09:25 AM) the Sox haven't had any high injury risk pitchers, well except Peavy... How do you define a "High injury risk pitcher" though? NSS has suggested he thinks Danks would count as a high injury risk pitcher due to a high effort delivery. Gavin Floyd has that whole hip thing. The Sox seem to have got as much out of Contreras and Garcia as possible, and those guys seemed to be pretty high injury risk. And we've gone through our fair share of long, lanky guys.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 09:22 AM) The thing is, that will all change once the nomination process is done. Absolutely. At least a decent portion of that favorability drop is due to Newt and Santorum and Paul supporters turnign more negative with how the campaign has gone. They're going to turn the other way by the time August/September rolls around.= The only real question is how much of a dent that will make.
  12. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 09:08 AM) Too many health issues throughout the staff for me to trust the rotation. Zambrano is still as big of a question mark. Even if he pitches well which is shaky, he has a whole new group to fight with. The Sox under Ozzie generally had a pretty good record of keeping their starting pitchers healthy compared to the rest of the league. Some of that might be the presence of M-56, some of that might be Cooper's throwing program, some of that might be herm, some of that might be Ozzie. If that translates down to Florida, they'll be in pretty good shape...but obviously, Johnson is the key.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 09:00 AM) That is pretty bogus. I worked at Jerry's flower shop for 2 years before i left Carbondale and Valentines day was the day that you agreed you werent going home until every order was out, and the orders were all double checked. Most of the pre-orders were on the table waiting for me when i walked in the door. They need to deliver those flowers, and then some, AND comp it There was a flower shop near here that burned to the ground Monday night.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 08:56 AM) I know the idea is to keep the Reps race in as much chaos as possible because it benefits the Oblamer. Yes. And that is happening because of me and this thread . If I'd keep my mouth shut, the party would line up behind Romney as it should.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 08:51 AM) Considering only one of those four gets you the nomination... Yeah I know money wins the nomination, but can it win in the general?
  16. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 08:37 AM) Isn't he still the front runner? He'll get the nomination. How are you defining front runner? Pledged delegates, states won, polling, or money? Rmoney leads 2 of those 4 categories.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 08:27 AM) I don't think the Marlins are going to be that good. But healthy Johnson, Sanchez, Nolasco and Buehrle is a way above average rotation. Forgot about Zambrano. SP shouldn't be a problem for them. The Marlins ought to be a competitive team if they come in prepared and nothing goes wrong. I don't think they're as loaded as the Sox were last year, they have some notable holes (1b, CF) but they also only have the NL to contend with. I dunno how those personalities are going to mix though. And I wonder if Reyes, Buehrle are going into the season thinking that they're mercenaries hired for 1 year, with how their contracts are structured.
  18. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 06:21 PM) It is making me think. It could be an interesting scenario. Maybe could schedule 2 games on some days, cuBS in the afternoon, White Sox at night. Would make it easy to see a baseball double feature. Maybe they could offer White Sox season ticket holders some extra tickets at a discount. Would give White Sox fans a chance to see more National League teams and cheer against the cuBS at the same time. The Marlins coming into US Cell would be cool to watch. Cheer on Ozzie. Make Buehrle would get a start here. Still I don't want to see a good cuBS team that year. They would have to suck to make it work for me. The worse their home record that year the sweeter it would be to watch. Ideally they would go like 30-51 at home. The 6 home games against the Cubs would be nice.

  20. Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn has a 2nd surgery to remove cancerous growths on his mouth (chewing tobacco).
  21. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 02:41 PM) I am not really excited about this possibility. Wouldn't the extra play do damage to the field? Roger Bossard laughs at your worries.
  22. QUOTE (Cali @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 02:17 PM) There has been nothing really done to improve the team for the 2012 season. Just banking on a different perspective from a manager and multiple concurrent bounce back seasons from three of the nine players in the starting line-up, of which in the other six only one can be counted on day in and day out (Paulie) Couple that with a rotation top-lined by two maddeningly inconsistent starters throughout their White Sox career, one injury waiting to happen (again) one with just an okay season and one starting for the first time in the bigs. When I think about that I don't think I'm being too bold... Too much has to go right for this team to even break .500 and I have a hard time seeing it all come together at once. Still, a 65 win team is 13 wins worse than last year. That's going to take some serious stuff going wrong, like Danks and Konerko both getting hurt.
  23. RMoney's superPAC has bought a big slice of ad time in Michigan, $500k worth for the next week. Curious thing is, they're currently running one of their anti-Gingrich attack ads there. That makes no sense to me.
  24. Rick Santorum may have some ballot access issues in Indiana. He's required to submit 500 signatures in each of Indiana's congressional districts, but in Marion county some of his signatures have been challenged. Perhaps his big worry...the guy at the top of the decision list is one of Romney's indiana campaign co-chairs...and thus, Santorum's ballot access depends on whether that guy is serious when he says he can be impartial.
  25. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 01:34 PM) San Francisco Giants Season Tickets! Buy Now! There's got to be some sort of control over the ad content, but to be honest I don't pay any attention to them. It's Google. It's almost certainly responding to various cookies that have been picked up by your browser at places you've visited previously.
