QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jan 26, 2012 -> 05:13 PM) Apart from the usual, highly paid suspects, I'm afraid it might be Bacon. Vitriol is always proportional to expectations. I hope he starts to finally live up to them. Does anyone really expect anything from him after 2 years of the same crap?

QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Jan 26, 2012 -> 05:08 PM) Coach Ventura Yeah, I'll go with Robin too. The team isn't going to have everything go right, and that means there will be things he does that really annoy.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 26, 2012 -> 02:35 PM) So... Newt wants to massively cut programs like infrastructure, energy and medicine... but he wants a base on the moon by 2020? WTF? If he was actually going to put the money behind it he'd have my vote. I'm serious. That kind of money would guarantee me a career. I'd vote for that out of selfishness. Sadly, last guy from that party said the same thing, and put zero funds behind it.

Just think how many people the tens of millions they spent on prop 8 could have helped.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 26, 2012 -> 09:01 AM) EVERYONE thinks Manning would be a great fit. If he is indeed on the market, it is going to be one hell of a haul for him. For some reason, the last blast of talk I got on the subject was considering whether the Colts would just give up and cut him, which I found baffling. -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 10:43 PM) If you don't count Dunn, why would you count Peavy? Could KW predict Peavy would have an injury that noone else in baseball has ever come back from? I think the problem was a lot of people thought Peavy was an "elevated injury risk" compared with most pitchers, based on his high-effort delivery. Any chance you could comment on Deng's wrist injury in the NBA thread? -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 10:37 PM) In 2004-05, he had surgery bc the Bulls were going nowhere. THis doesn't sound familiar to me, didn't Deng miss the playoffs that year? I remember really wishing we'd had him.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 07:47 PM) Absolutely it does depending on how much creedence you put in it. Same thing goes for Williams or Coop when Cowley has written unflattering things about them that he's gotten from Guillen. If it's all coming from Ozzie and his family though, while guys like Cooper, Reinsdorf, Williams, and Hahn are content to continue working with each other, that sorta tells you that Ozzie is the only one defending Ozzie or attacking anyone else.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 07:13 PM) If they backloaded contracts with the plans of trading htem, they are idiots. Who is going to want those deals? "Hey Boston, you want Josh Johnson? Here, you get a shortstop also." -
Geithner says he will not be back if the President wins reelection.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 10:33 PM) Word is Deng might give it a go against the Heat on Sunday afternoon. Terrifying. Anyone able to drag pt into this thread to see if he could really screw things up?

QUOTE (Felix @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 09:43 PM) Not to burst any bubbles (because the Bulls have certainly played VERY well this season), but they're 27th in the NBA in strength of schedule and their last 10 games have been (by far) the easiest in the NBA. They've picked a good part of their schedule to be without some of their players, considering the level of competition they've faced recently. The one thing strenght of schedule isn't counting though is the insanely high number of games they've arleady had.

QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 04:21 AM) They're not the best team out there, but they have a very above average team on paper (but at least those contracts will hurt them in the future). They really should run away with the division now, unless injuries strike and/or everything goes right for the Indians. And I would love if the Sox had guys like Boesch or Avila. Those two guys are only going to get better. Of course, Boesch was never even a top 25 prospect for the Tigers, so it's entirely plausible that some of those guys appear out of no where.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 07:04 PM) Yup. To be honest that's just a nice little built in excuse for Booze. Especially now with Luol Deng out long term, he needs to score and rebound. He needs to selfishly put up numbers. There's just no way the team can put up wins when they start playing solid opponents if Boozer can't fill up the stat sheet more, not if Deng isn't there doing everything he was doing.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 06:52 PM) But the article is about Paterno, it isnt about the entire case. I think youd be hard pressed to find any reasonable person in the entire world who puts more blame on Paterno then Sandusky. Not even the author is saying that. You'd also be hard pressed to find vigils happening for Sandusky or parades or flags hanging at half staff because of him.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 05:37 PM) I read on MLBTR that the Nats are looking at Cespedes like a "corner type," maybe even a first baseman. As desparate as the Nats are for a CF, I think that piece of information probably reflects poorly on their evaluations as Cespedes as a CF. My excitement over the Sox being in on this guy are dropping by the day. I just think it's going to be too much risk for the money. If the big threat on this guy is the Marlins...given how they obviously structured Reyes's and Buehrle's contracts so that they could move them in a year or two as a big payroll cutting move, I'd be very skeptical that the Marlins can really go all-in on this kind of commitment either. Unless they're looking to use him for 1-2 years and then move him too...which could mean antoher backloaded deal. -
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 06:29 PM) The difference between Cowley and Rozner is, you know who Cowley is the mouthpiece for. With Rozner you have to guess did this come from Chairman Reinsdorf or Williams. I agree with his premise that Guillen had to go. If he's being the mouthpiece for anyone, that means someone in the org felt like Ozzie had completely quit on the team years ago. That says a lot about how Ozzie was viewed that anyone would think that.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 05:01 PM) W is the most important stat of all I'd say the playoff win against the Heat is more important than that. And if he is doing 12/8 against the Heat, that is a big contributor to not getting the W.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 05:23 PM) Also worth pointing out that when you give several million dollars to the Mormon Church, it winds up buying "the Gays are coming for your kids!" commercials (with taxpayer help, of course).
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 02:15 PM) Yes and no, Gingrich still lacks the national campaign infrastructure that Romney has. I know Nate Silver and other pundits are still putting the likelihood of a Gingrich nomination below 50%. http://www.slate.com/blogs/weigel/2012/01/...e_horrible.html He didn't really have "Campaign infrastructure" in South Carolina either. He's getting plenty of exposure thanks to the debates and press, and he's been able to mute Mittens' money using Superpac funds. Those 2 things don't necessarily need to change. As long as he can be on the air in states, and is actually winning primaries, the Iowa-style SuperPac money surge for Mitt might not work that well

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 05:00 PM) I disagree, I think it does mean something. And more importantly, look at the 30 point difference about the economy, which will be issue #1 in November. But note that no comparison is given for how the President's plans were evaluated before and after the speech last year.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 06:12 PM) Their two largest contracts are majorly back-loaded. Once fans stop caring about the new stadium in a year or two, they are gonna have to start selling off pieces just like always. It's Miami, no one care about pro sports. Just college football & NASCAR Mark Buehrle's contract is clearly designed to be moved after a year or so. The ballooning is ridiculous. Mark had to know that when he signed the deal too.

QUOTE (mataipaepae @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 01:41 PM) i hope so... because we see how matt looked last year and it wasn't pretty. Juan Pierre played a huge part in that.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 02:11 PM) If Gingrich win Florida, will it be oficially time for the Romney camp to panic? If they're not already.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 02:02 PM) The speech is polling very well: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20029581-503544.html I'd imagine similar numbers appear every year.
