  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 06:26 AM) Pierre...once again, frustration, like Jenks, but nobody questioned his effort or work ethic or his leadership. I'll question it. Dude flat out did not come out of spring training ready to play baseball in either 2010 or 2011. However long he spent in the weight room, it did not prepare him to play baseball.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 08:39 AM) He might as well have said this team has a nice personality. That'd be a big upgrade from the last 2-3 years.
  3. QUOTE (kev211 @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 10:33 PM) At 16-3, if this was a full regular season the Bulls would be on pace to put up 69 wins. Even though the Bulls have played a ton of games, they have a pretty weak strength of schedule so far.
  4. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 10:36 PM) I think this years team is better than last years team. For the first 3 weeks, I'd have said that depends entirely on Noah finding his form. Now I'll say it depends on Lu's wrist.
  5. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 08:37 AM) If it doesnt burn him in the primaries, which I think it will, it will scorch him in the general. It's now way to easy to paint him as an elitist tax dodger. The problem IMO isn't that Mitt Romney or anyone else does whatever they can to reduce their effective tax rate. It's that fools at the top, starting in about 2002-2003, decided that minimizing the tax rate of people like Mitt Romney would be an effective policy tool. It hasn't been. And the tax plan of every candidate of that same party doubles down on that same philosophy.
  6. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 08:25 AM) Secret Swiss bank account, only paid 14% tax rate... stick a fork in Romney, he's done Seriously, I don't know why that's scandalous. Newt Gingrich's tax policy insists that Mitt pays 14 percentage points too much in taxes.
  7. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 09:36 PM) So they figure if Romney wins the nomination it will be wall street shill vs wall street shill? Or if Gingrich wins too.
  8. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 09:08 PM) looks like Mittens will have to tap into his bank account. Romneys official campaign has already spent $5 million in Florida. No idea what his superpac has. With his wall street connections, Adelson could spend $250 million on newt and romneys superpac wouldn't blink. Thats how much money wall street has.
  9. Sheldon Adelson has pumped another $5 million into Newts superpac for the Florida campaign. He could do this in every state if he wanted and it really wouldn't hurt his bank account at all.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 08:46 PM) A good case study for this would be Radiohead's In Rainbows album. The band made it available for download and asked people to pay whatever they felt comfortable paying. Wikipedia I bought that on cd. I also saw them on tour that year. I got into them originally via MP3s. They've literally made $100+ from me pirating their music as an undergrad.
  11. I don't want to put this is the Paterno death thread for some reason, but I really wanted to share it. Link. expect profanity.
  12. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 08:16 PM) There is a rumor floating around that if Tice stays with the Bears that the Bears are going to hire Bob Bostad for the offensive line. He just left Wisconsin to be hired by Pitt. I believe it was reported the Beats would hire him then 12 hours later that report was denied.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 08:21 PM) Seems the AL Central is stuck with the Young brothers for now. I believe Delwyn Young is not related to Delmon or Dmitri.
  14. I'd like to say I hope This is a hoax, but even then that would be pretty sick. Campaign manager for a House candidate in Arkansas came home to find their cat killed with the word "liberal" written on it. I picked a link that didn't include te photo, and I wish I hadn't seen it myself.
  15. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 08:07 PM) need somebody to play after the 3rd inning. seriously though, if you had to pick one name out of the list who would be the surprise to make the 25 man roster? Kuhn, D2, stults, and young. Backup of, backup if, and bak of the bullpen are the sox possible needs, and those guys could outperform the guys on the 40 man.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 06:43 PM) If the Sox suck this year, I hope KW is canned after the season. I mean he made a couple offseason deals, big deal. If this team makes no more moves, it on paper again is a contender. If the team sucks, it's on KW. Fire him if this team sucks. Now if he makes 3-4 more trades, I will change this post. Then he can't be judged on this season's crap product. KW has at least 2 years to see where this goes. He offered to move elsewhere and give up the GM job. Staying in that position must entail time to make things work.
  17. I don't think any of them are traded. What's left to do this offseason involves Adam Dunn dropping another 10 lbs, Alex Rios working hard, 15,000 more swings for Gordon Beckham, and a lot of writing articles about how motivated Rios is for the year. There will be some ST fights fro those backup roles and for the last bullpen slot.
  18. Blogabull has a good summary of where it came from towards the bottom of this post.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 06:27 PM) Everyone in this thread has agreed that this is a bad idea, and given that now both SOPA and PIPA are off the table for the time being, it's looking likely that the whole domestic side that the "internet industry" was worried about isn't going to happen. Then my next question following that would be...why should I believe that current levels of copyright protection are the best ones? They've been changed many, many times historically. They started at 28 years when this country was founded, and now are at 95 years, and will be expanded again before 2023. No one is saying that content creators should have no right to own their own goods...but there have to be appropriate limits in terms of both efforts of enforcement and levels of control...and trying to cite the poor artist working hard for the production of their art as an argument suggests that at present, the person arguing that either believes copyrights should be infinitely protected or that copyright enforcment is currently not strong enough.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 06:22 PM) First of all how do we arrive at that 80% figure? Secondly, that 20% loss seems like it would equate to a huge loss of revenue. As for your Batman question, how can we be sure you would never pay anything at all for a Batman DVD? How did you get your movies prior to being able to steal them? Did you own 0 movies? Did you know immediately whether or not you were going to purchase every movie you indeed did end up purchasing? How do we know that record labels don't charge what they do for albums based having to make up for the perceived loss of revenue (if what you argue is true) even though there is no actual loss of revenue? Let me turn around and ask you this... Should this website be shut down for 2k5 posting the full text of a tweet? If you want it a different way, I'm trying to ask you if you think copyright protections should be effectively infinite, and that protection of copyrights ought to be the largest priority of the government. If you're willing to put any limits at all on how far the government should go to protect copyrights, then the argument needs to be about where to put that line.
  21. Wow, that's one blatant bleeping admission of tampering.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 06:19 PM) I don't care if Ozzie quit or not, but a lot of people on here sure do. So they owe Oz an apology. The Trib has a full story up on it. Ozzie lost the war to Kenny. Jerry wanted him to go and Ozzie left. I couldn't care less if he quit or not, but now it's out he didn't quit. Vindication for Oz. If the Chairman had come out and ripped Ozzie for quitting, you wouldn't believe a word he was saying.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 05:56 PM) You're only looking at the actual production costs for that particular unit you stole. An album or movie or a novel is not like a brick, or a computer, or a physical cd even, as you mention. It's a creative work that required effort and talent and lots of work to create. How do your basic economics value that? What is it worth? The time the artist took to create it? The economic value in the work is determined by a combination of the demand for that work in the marketplace and the strength and tenacity of the government's copyright protections. Basic economics would say that if the value of the product is less than what people are commonly able to earn for it, the net result should be a dearth of production of entertainment or a search for new sources of funding.
  24. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 05:26 PM) I wish he would have explained why. Did you follow the link and go through the video? He does.
