QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 09:38 AM) Someone has to put money into the system. [/b]Through history that has been wealthy patrons, advertisers, governments, and consumers. Pick which one you want in your business model, but make no mistake, someone has to put money into the system. If it isn't the consumer, then be willing to accept the music and movies that come out because you will have very little influence. The reply here is ridiculously simple. Is there not enough money being put into entertainment these days to fund sufficient entertainment options? I'd say there's more than enough money going in. And there's so much money going in that a handful of companies are more than content to use a portion of that money to make sure that new competition does not arise.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 01:08 PM) I have watched a ton of NBA basketball for decades now. The team game is gone for the most part in the NBA. The Bulls are one of the few watchable teams out there. When offense consists of placing four guys outside of the three point stripe and then having one guy go one on one, it isn't basketball. Its playground ball. I'd much rather watch HS or college ball where all 10 people are involved in the game. The iso game also makes every team that becomes obsessed with it worse. Vinny Del Negro ball is a prime example.
  3. So Derrick rose goes out and the Bulls keep winning. Clearly Peyton manning deserves that nba MVP award.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 08:38 PM) Jeb Bush to endorse Mittens. This will presumably be as useful as the endorsement of South Carolina governor Nikki Haley that Mitt got a couple weeks ago, or as useful as that new hampshire newspaper endorsement that Newt picked up in new Hampshire. Jeb Bush has denied that report. Not a good night for the AP.
  5. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 09:08 PM) Joe pa is dead and the cock smokers in nba thread make me hate Kevin love more than every other non-cub pro athlete in America. Don't are if you think that makes me a dick Paterno is alive for now.
  6. Both CBS and the AP have retracted statements that Paterno died.
  7. 2008 GOP turnout 446k, current estimate for this year is 570k.
  8. And now Romneys campaign takes down the video they posted a few days ago saying "On Saturday, South Carolina picks a president."
  9. I'm now reading that Mitt didn't just lose, he lost every district in SC and thus takes away zero delegates.
  10. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 08:49 PM) I guess SC voters think Newt will be able to get away with attacking debate moderators in the general election. Ok, I guess. Exit polling data in Sc says that the voters didn't just like Newt better, they strongly believe he'd be a stronger general election candidate than Mittens.
  11. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 08:43 PM) Plus 3 or 4 prospects he said. Boston wouldn't even consider it. It's asinine. And Boston really doesn't have "3 or 4" lower level prospect that would really pique my interest
  12. Jeb Bush to endorse Mittens. This will presumably be as useful as the endorsement of South Carolina governor Nikki Haley that Mitt got a couple weeks ago, or as useful as that new hampshire newspaper endorsement that Newt picked up in new Hampshire.
  13. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 08:30 PM) Huh? You wouldn't take on $16 million of contracts that expire after this season to dump Rios? Boston is the team that would be way averse to such a deal. Basically, we'd just be saving $20 million total on Rios's deal and giving up Floyd to do so. No thanks.
  14. Romney lost all income levels except those making over $200k/year.
  15. QUOTE (GO CHI SOX! @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 07:36 PM) If the Red Sox are in panic mode, how about a deal like this: White Sox send Rios, Floyd, and Escobar White Sox get Matsuzaka, Jenks, and 3-4 lower level prospects Why for the Red Sox - Floyd is an immediate upgrade to everything they have, Escobar can fill in at SS, and Rios can play RF for them, doesnt look like they have much at that position for now. Dice-K and Jenks both are injury prone and probably won't contribute this season anyways - 16 million dollars on nothing right there. Why for the White Sox - Get rid of Rios and his contract. Jenks and Dice-K both expire after this season - 2 bums that can't stay healthy is a price I would pay to get rid of Rios. Get more prospects. So who says no? Boston has nothing that would make me willing to take on that.
  16. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 07:31 PM) Gingrich wins South Carolina Well, that means it ain't over yet.
  17. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 04:03 PM) They must perform period, or the Sox have no chance of recouping any investment it made in those three. That's the bottom line and only 2012 will tell They could also get lucky and wind up having Dunn give up and retire if he can't play any more.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 03:45 PM) What proof do you have of that? The 2 games that Cooper managed last year and the fact that Ozzie Guillen is now under contract with another team while the White Sox received 2 players in exchange for letting Ozzie Guillen out of the last 164 games of his contract.
  19. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 03:23 PM) Fair enough. And Balta, I'm probably with you on the next year point too. I'm just saying, if they collapse and end up in the NIT, it will be extremely hard to take. Don't see that happening though. Would be stunned, but not furious. Don't care, the KY and OSU wins were reward enough for this season.
  20. Sounds like the Rangers have the money to do 2 of Darvish, Fielder, and Hamilton. So an interesting comparison, at least, is going to be Darvish versus Fielder the next couple years.
  21. PPP's final 3 day poll in SC: 1540 voters. Newt's best night was Friday night, so even though the margin of error is bigger, the trend is really strong Newt.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 02:02 PM) The same way patents are, but society determined that in order to give incentive to inventors, you have to allow them to protect their idea for X period of time, which is why patents/copyrights are not forever. Of course, in this country, we've changed that rule since the 1920's, to protect a mouse.
