QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 06:02 PM) So if a company wants too much profit it is ok to steal from them? When people steal they are allowing the company zero profit, I can't believe you think that is fair. How will investors earn back their investment if people are allowed to pirate movies and music? Technology makes for a better thief and the laws need to keep pace. The second paragraph is an attempt to put words in my mouth to divert the conversation away from a point you have lost. If people steal a cancer drug that is on copyright, but it keeps them alive, is that a bad thing?

I'd like to note how completely wrong the announcers were when they said they'd Blitz Brady on that 3rd down. The Ravens dropped 7 and had Ed Reed in position to make the key play. -
QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 05:51 PM) So when millions of people start driving off without paying, it will be ok? Do you have a problem when millions of people begin using generic drugs after a copyright period expires? It would make drugs even more profitable if we expanded copyright protection even more on medication. Why do we limit the return on investmetn that they can make?

QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 05:50 PM) When an artist and record company makes an investment in an album, how are they suppose to recoup their investment? Who pays them when a song is pirated? No one here is saying that they can't be compensated for their investment in some fashion. The question is about the level. You're the one who is telling us that we need additional protection beyond what is currently available. That is the whole point of this law...that these industries need expanded protection, again. In 1790, copyright protection lasted 28 years. It currently lasts 95 years. Now we need to expand the government's efforts even more for what reason?

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 05:51 PM) I don't think Belichick necessarily made the decision to throw deep into triple coverage. I can't figure out why the QB would throw that ball of his own volition. -

IF that holds, that is one of the most impressive INT's I've ever seen. Wow. -
QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 05:38 PM) Terrorists win when our leaders can be shot from office. If her district was unhappy there are ways for her to be removed from office. There was no movement from her district. It really becomes how much time to recover. No one is forcing her to do this. Assuming she is of sound mind currently, she's deciding that she is incapable of adequately representing her district. There is zero shame in that.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 05:29 PM) I'd like to point out that SOPA is mainly defending the RIAA. Who are a bunch of dicks. And the MPAA. Who are equally large ones.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 05:21 PM) Seems the Obama admin wants to do just that in regards to oil companies. This is actually not the worst comparison at all. The government, through subsidies and taxes, passes along huge benefits to fossil fuel companies. The government, through copyright law, passes on huge subsidies to the owners of certain copyrights.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 05:25 PM) Brady picked, but it's brought back by an offsides. Really smart play by the Ravens D to just take a knee after grabbing that ball so that nothing bad could happen. -

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 04:50 PM) His eyesight is probably the issue. It that's the case, then glasses/contacts/surgery could turn him into an all star again. Eyesight is correctable in this world. Edit: and someone should have been fired for not helping him correct it last year. An eye exam doesn't take weeks. -
QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 04:58 PM) Too tough to answer? When an artist and record company puts out a CD how are they suppose to receive a return on their investment? Currently they sell copies of the recording. When people stop paying for the song, how do the investors earn back their money? Who is paying and why? /watching how Balta dodges again. Who gets to decide what an appropriate return on investment is when the retailer is protected from competition by copyright law? If you go buy a car, the profit the car dealer is making is determined by the balance between supply and demand. This is not the case in intellecutal property cases.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 04:53 PM) WHy do you, or anyone else, care? You know he is rich already. How far back do you want him to go? Most people give somewhere on the order of 5-10 years. Obama did 6. The problem here is that it's completely tone-deaf. His own father was the guy who set the decade standard and publicly came out and said that he was releasing that many because he wanted to prove he had nothing to hide. The reality here is that it looks like he has something he's trying to hide. If he doesn't have anything to hide, then he could have ended any controversy before it started by releasing something similar to what every candidate does. Instead he's given every one of his opponents a huge opening, and there's really no defense other than "I'm trying to hide something for God's sake!". His own father explained it perfectly.

QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 04:50 PM) Who is putting in the money for the song that is pirated? Whose money is making that possible? The taxpayer who is spending their money on copyright enforcement.

Mittens will release 1-2 years of tax returns this week. Does his campaign seriously not get how tone-deaf that is, or does he actually have something from 2005-ish that really needs to be hidden?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 03:34 PM) I'd be curious to see the study. I have asked before if anyone had comps for Dunn's season. I have never gotten an answer. He seriously put up one of the 20 worst seasons in MLB history last year. It's virtually impossible for there to be a true comp. -

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 03:21 PM) History paints a dismal picture for those three-true-outcome players who have seasons this far below their typical rates. I don't think there's ever been a case of a player of almost any sort who suddenly at age 32 had a season that far below his typical level. -

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 03:12 PM) Dunn's season was a perfect storm. Conditioning was well down the list of what was wrong. There is more reason to think he's declining than 2011 was an aberration. Why? -

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 02:54 PM) I wish Huntsman would run as an Independent. He would siphon votes away from Obama and give the GOP an easy win. Very, very few Democrats would vote for Huntsman. A whole lot of his policies are to the right of Mittens, he just occasionally calls out Republicans for being nuts the week before embracing that policy. And a "Centrist challenge to Obama" for democratic votes would just get laughed off...you can't challenge the center from the right and expect it to be "a Centrist challenge" or whatever. He'd stay with his
