  1. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 05:35 PM) Have "great success" running that 1984-style society of fear and oppression! What an idiot. http://www.washingtontimes.com/blog/inside...es-kim-jong-un/ There is absolutely nothing wrong with the former president having decent relationships here. As noted in the article you posted, it's been useful in the past as a workaround past official channels. South Korea even sent its condolences.
  2. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 05:34 PM) Kind of sounds like Johan Santana a bit. Got to have that great changeup and at least a couple other good pitches. What does Danks have? A fair fastball and curve maybe. Johan never had as many "Days off" with the change as Danks has, had a different arm slot that made the change basically a different pitch, and had a better fastball to boot.
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 05:23 PM) Cue debilitating arm injury. What an odd surprise. I still don't like John Danks. I still cannot explain why. I have never really liked John Danks. It's his pitching style. His only real dominating pitch is that changeup, and he becomes a fairly pedestrian pitcher on days when he doesn't have his good change. It's as frustrating of a thing as I've seen. Either more reliability on that changeup or a 2nd pitch to get lefties out in particular and he'd become a wrecking ball.
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 05:04 PM) I can't promise this will work out, because I have no idea, but what if they felt getting a good starting pitcher in the system was more important than having Santos another year when they have a lot of confidence in Reed? If they keep Thornton, Ohman, Frasor, Crain, and Reed along with some long relief, that should be enough...and Molina will be at AA and be ready to go in 2013 at the latest. I just don't think Santos being traded is a deal breaker when it comes to the Sox competing in 2012. Read your bullpen again, that's a bullpen with a rookie closer, a Loogy, a guy who struggled badly with us last year, a guy who was genuinely good with us but has been inconsistent in his career, and then Matty. And it's only 5 deep, which means that spot 6 goes to rookie X. Really, that bullpen setup is a mess.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 04:57 PM) I'm happy. I hope they stick with Peavy, Danks, Floyd, Humber, and Sale and just hope for the best with the lineup. If that's the rotation, having a strong and deep bullpen should be mandatory. Thank Goodness we didn't trade away any relievers this offseason.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 04:51 PM) That wasn't directed at you at all dude. I was just saying, people were b****ing after the first pre-season game (not just here, but on other boards as well). Now everything is roses after last night. We're through 2 preseason games and Boozer isn't hurt. This is an improvement.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 04:45 PM) The other possibility here is the Kenny intentionally leaked this info to try to get someone to panic buy high on Danks before he is off of the market. In that case, I consider it my patriotic duty to continue posting in this thread to keep it running.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 04:42 PM) After watching Santos get dealt two months after signing a long term deal, you know a no-trade is a must for a significant portion of the deal. Then the Sox ought to be getting one large discount.
  9. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 04:35 PM) You don't do sign-and-trades with veteran players in baseball, they're not a part of the game at all. If Danks gets an extension it'll include some sort of no-trade protection for the first 2 years of the deal. And again, I'll add...paying market value for Danks AND adding no-trade protection for the first part of it = completely nuts. At least a 5 year deal wouldn't make him a 10/5 player.
  10. QUOTE (Cali @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 04:28 PM) What friggin direction is this team going in? I'd love to complain more , but I honestly have no confidence in KW getting a good deal for Danks anyway. And if this deal is true and it is HUGE like suggested, I'm weary because as someone mentioned earlier, Danks hasn't been the best. He had one really good season and mostly mediocre to average seasons since. In the Fangraphs world, Danks has been a $13 million+ pitcher every season of his career other than his rookie year, with that notable peak in 08. That's why I said that 5/$75 is basically market value for him right now.
  11. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 04:21 PM) So CJ Wilson got an average annual value of $15.5M on his deal over 5 years. Danks still has arbitration coming up for 2012, I'd place an $8.5M value on that season leaving us with 4 years to work with, bump the $15.5M AAV to $16M as a showing of good faith and loyalty over 4 free agent seasons would bring the total value to $72.5M. Toss in a 6th year option/buyout or signing bonus of $2.5M (same as CJ) and the total value moves to 5/$75M. Kinda seems right. That's just so much f***ing money, I can't imagine JR paying. With where the White Sox are right now, offering that deal makes zero sense.
  12. Different version.
  13. After a year of continuing disappointment in our government and this administration on environmental issues, this move, belated as it is, deserves all the credit possible.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 04:10 PM) 5/75 makes the most sense. This kind of deal would be nuts for the White Sox to sign. That's effectively market value for Danks right now. That's a "We're all in" kinda deal, paying market value for a pitcher who isn't a clear #1.
  15. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 04:04 PM) Makes me wonder why Danks would ever accept it. But if it were substantially more than that ($20 million-ish more), then I'd be stunned that the White Sox would go for it
  16. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 04:02 PM) I won't believe this until Rosenthal, Heyman or a Sox beat writer reports it as well.. Well clearly, even we have the word "Rumor" in the headline here.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 03:32 PM) Yep, I think Gio and Latos destroyed some of KW's plans this offseason. I do doubt 5/54 is true, as that seems significantly less than what Danks would get. Yeah, the only reason why this would make sense for the Sox is if Danks suddenly took the level of deal that he wasn't interested in a year ago.
  18. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 03:30 PM) Where did the Cardinals rank before the season last year? They went into last season with the best player in baseball at 1b and a couple of the best pitchers (although 1 got hurt in ST). They looked like a legit title contender until Wainright got hurt, then they filled in the pitching rotation gap at the trade deadline.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 03:28 PM) I'm so confused. ALL IN: THE SEQUEL ALL IN: LAST YEAR WAS ACTUALLY MARK'S FAULT.
  20. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 03:26 PM) @StateStSports Got a call last night from someone who claims that Danks will resign with #WhiteSox for 5 year deal/54 million. #ThisIsARumor That would be a pretty decent contract, all things considered.
  21. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 03:23 PM) Wouldn't this move pretty much mean complete opposite. It'd mean we're quite content with being the 8th best team in the AL thank you very much.
  22. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 03:19 PM) Whats rebuilding in our mind is different than in Kenny's. I like this rebuilding better. "Keeping the same band together except dropping Mark and Sergio" is not the kind of rebuilding I'd be happy with.
  23. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 03:15 PM) We never were really rebuilding anyways. Having arguably the worst farm system in major league baseball didn't really lend itself towards a vision for the future. Then that Sergio trade was foolish, incredibly foolish.
  24. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 02:56 PM) He won't admit it Except by, oh, I don't know..."OFFERING TO RESIGN".
