2012 AL Central Catch-All thread
QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 12:09 PM) Tigers close to acquiring Prado for Delmon Young....ugh! Prado's a real good hitter and would be another good bat in that lineup. .800 OPS's 2008-2010, followed up by a .687 OPS last year. The real "Ugh" should be regarding the fact that the market for Quentin will now be that much smaller.

So...if draft pick compensation is seriously curtailed in any way, that dramatically increases the urgency to move Danks and Quentin.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 10:57 AM) Making $130,000 a year by running a charity? That may be commonplace, but it sounds so wrong. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 11:28 AM) They have to have talented people to operate the charity. In order to attract them, you have to pay the market rate. #OccupyPennSt.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 10:33 AM) You take Luck and keep Manning. If Manning plays well for a couple years, than you deal with it than. Andrew Luck should not sit on the bench for "a couple years". Peyton Manning should not play for a team that has $7-8 million a year in cap space tied up in his backup.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 10:27 AM) I'm guessing you have that backwards. So boras thinks they should give draft picks to the low revenue teams? That doesn't seem like something he'd think.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 10:25 AM) ChiTribRogers Phil Rogers Scott Boras says MLB should award draft picks based on revenue, not wins, and alllow teams to trade picks. That would be crazy fun dynamic. Yeah, I can think of 27 teams that will disagree with having the Yankees, Red Sox, and Phillies go 1, 2, 3 in the draft every year.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 10:18 AM) and I believe that is the gray area that the Colts are stuck in. Do you cut bait and possibly risk trading one of the greatest QBs of all time when he possibly has another couple years in him? People call Luck a once in a generation QB, but he wouldnt be the first QB to bust out after being drafted #1 with that label. It happens IMO, the best way to make sure Luck is Lucky in life is to make sure that he is surrounded by a team as talented as the Packers supposedly are. And the way to do that is moving Manning. I don't know which one you trade if you're in that seat, but the "Safe" play of holding onto them both is also the weakest move you can make for the franchise.

I def. recall Andy Reid being on it.

Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 09:55 AM) If you are the Colts, you aren't thinking of this as 2012. You are setting up your future with a guy who is being described as a once in a generation QB, or essentially Peyton Manning. With Mannings age, you don't pass that up. It also makes Peyton impossible to trade. Draft luck, and let the situation dictate when it is time to move on with Peyton. The biggest quibble I have here is that you state Manning's age makes him impossible to trade. His contract would make it challenging, but look, this is Peyton Manning we're talking about. Hypothetically, you're the GM of the Vikings. Or the Redskins. Or the Dolphins. Or the Seahawks. Or any other team that has gone through years of sub-par QB play (other than the Raiders who have already traded away their draft). Arranging the cap space would be a challenge, but are you honestly going to tell me that you'd look at an offer for Peyton Manning for 4 years and say "Naw, he's too old"? The only reason you'd say no is if the neck problems were so severe that his career was likely over. Joe Montana was tradeable. Peyton Manning is tradeable.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 09:51 AM) With the new rookie salary structure, I think the Colts could get away with it for a year or maybe even two. They could, you're right. I just think it's a silly move. Tying up $6 million a year in cap space in Peyton Manning's backup seems very self-defeating for a team that has the kind of contracts that team has on offense.

If you have to declare a no-fly-zone for news helicopters above an area because you don't want the press covering what you're about to do, then you have a problem.

Is De Aza an ideal lead off hitter?
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 09:38 AM) I love DeAza. I really don't want to see him lead off because I like him somewhere in the middle of the order maybe 6th at least against righties. Someone's gotta lead off. I don't really think long term he's a .450-500 slugging kinda guy, but I do think long term he's a .350+ OBP kinda guy. That means he's going to be more effective at generating runs by being on base for people than he would be by bouncing the ball off the fence.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Nov 14, 2011 -> 10:11 PM) So, I guess I don't understand. If the regulations overlap, wouldn't complying with one of them involve complying with ALL of them? But if I'm a large company that owns a lot of lobbyists, I can put enough holes in those regulations such that it's fairly easy for me to comply with them for whatever reason but I double up the paperwork on my competition.
