Packages that would net us a haul
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Nov 16, 2011 -> 12:37 PM) Sure would be nice to send this package to the NL. I think most of the guys we are talking about trading would be more appealing to contenders considering the contract situations. We need to find the team that wants to go ALL IN next year. Um, that does sound like a decent description of the Rangers.

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 16, 2011 -> 12:08 PM) DeJesus is worse than any OF the Sox have. Hi, My name is Alexis Rios, this is what a face looks like after it is hit with shaving cream.

What is your top Buehrle contract
Really depends on what else KW has on the table. If he's got really good offers sitting there for Danks, Floyd, Quentin, Thornton, and maybe even the Captain, then I might well make a conservative, 3/$36 offer and let M-56 decide if he wants to stay through rebuilding. If he's got crappy offers sitting there for most of them, and he lets M-56 walk, then he's created a no-win situation.

Penn State horror story
QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 16, 2011 -> 11:02 AM) It would be helpful to know what other things he may have done. This does seem somewhat normal for someone retiring and 84 years of age. Who knows, it may have something to do with his retirement. But, I can easily see that it is tied to the scandal. You really think he'd have retired this year if it wasn't for the scandal?

Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 16, 2011 -> 09:52 AM) 4 weeks ago this board was in meltdown and everyone was in agreement with me. This is exactly what Angelo/Lovie do to remain in their jobs. Be s***ty, but make a run at the most convenient time to make everyone forget it. A good coach would have reigned in Martz last year. Might have saved us a loss at NO and Det this year. Yup. This is exactly what Angelo/Lovie do to remain in their jobs. Win football games and get to the playoffs.

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
I'm trying to figure out if Bloomberg challenging Newt on the type of "Work" he did to earn $1.2 mil from FDMC will resonate with Republican voters or not. They haven't seemed to hate lobbying work, but it's lobbying on behalf of a GSE, which is a bad thing. All I know is my gut says maybe.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2011 -> 09:39 AM) JoeCStrib JoeChristensen #Twins express interest in Doumit, Willingham: Willingham would be a great fit for that team's needs if they can get the M's back healthy

Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 16, 2011 -> 09:35 AM) BTW SS, in the last 2.5 seasons including this one, Gould has increased his range, hitting longs of 52, 54 and 51. 10 of his 12 career 50+ FG's happened during this time. That's not Janikowski range, but it's not exactly amateur hour either. One other thing worth considering Re: Gould's distance is that he plays 8 of his yearly games at Soldier Field. It's not Pittsburgh in terms of wind, but it's the worst playing surface in the NFL, it gets quite cold, and there is a fair amount of wind. None of those are conducive to long field goals, especially late in the year.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 16, 2011 -> 09:11 AM) 1. If you read the article, it seems clear that they are neither organizing nor coordinating the crackdowns. Says it quite clearly, but I suppose that doesn't fit your narrative. Should have checked more first...the Examiner is "Murdoch owned". I regret having posted that.

The previous version, I believe, Just said "Lose a draft pick". A first round pick is a huge penalty. No one will pay that. That would be effectively the end of over-slot bonuses.

The Democrat Thread
Don't worry everyone, you can all rest easy. Congress appears ready to successfully overturn a socialist, imperialist, communist-fascist effort by the White House to declare horribly that Pizza is not a vegetable.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 16, 2011 -> 09:11 AM) 2. I fail to see the problem with local law enforcement asking for advice from the feds here. Occupy movement is national, lots of cities are dealing with it, seems only smart to me to talk to the feds and with other cities to come up with the best ideas possible to handle things. Interesting choice of words there.

Both a casual slip-up line by the mayor of Oakland and now leaks from the Feds are suggesting that the FBI and DHS have taken the lead in coordinating/organizing the crackdowns on the OWS camps. Link to Minneapolis Examiner article.

Buehrle Signs with Marlins | 4 yrs $58 mil
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2011 -> 08:48 AM) I'd say from the sounds of Kenny, if Mark leaves, it is a given that Danks or Floyd goes. If Kenny is talking "Rebuilding" and hinting at the kind of offers he got, then I'd say it's possible both go.

2011-2012 OFFICIAL NBA LOCKOUT thread
QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 10:34 PM) Pretty sure the marquee players can still earn a fat paycheck playing in leagues in Europe and other parts of the world, don't think you'll see D Rose applying for a job at Wal-Mart. I wouldn't call what they can earn overseas a "Fat paycheck" relative to the NBA. There's just not that kind of money in those leagues. It should be enough to cover expenses, even on the types of houses these guys have, but it won't cover the same lifestyle. The Marquee players still have their endorsement contracts to get by, that's where their money is. You still see Rose, Howard on the tele these days.

Buehrle Signs with Marlins | 4 yrs $58 mil
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 11:59 PM) I'm beginning to think KW is waiting until the Winter Meetings, to gauge if he can get rid of Danks or Floyd. I'm beginning to think the Market for Mark is so hot that he won't last until the winter meetings.

Penn State horror story
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 09:51 PM) http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/...ult-source-says New rumor, Mcqueary did speak with the police. This is why we dont rush to judgment based on hearsay evidence in a grand jury indictment. No matter what, he should not have been on the field coaching last weekend. If his actions vindicate him in the long term fine, but you can't have him out there until the full story is out.

Danks and Floyd drawing interest
QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 09:37 PM) With Sale going in as a starter that guarantees the Sox must have 6 starters for the year. Sale has never pitched more more than 120 innings in a season and that took place 2 years ago. This year he pitched 71 innings. At most, Sale should pitch between 120-150 innings for next year. Anything more than that is a guarantee arm/shoulder injury waiting to happen. Oh-I forgot we need 7 starters-we still have Peavy. If we want to compete, Zach Stewart should be the 6th starter and should start the year at AAA. If we trade off more starters, then I dunno.

2011-2012 OFFICIAL NBA LOCKOUT thread
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 09:24 PM) If it goes to court, a mediator will settle it. Its not going to trial. My guess is that its settled by next summer. No way will it drag out longer, no one can afford it. They just need a 3rd party to basically hammer it in their heads that fighting over 1-2% is stupid and they are throwing the baby out with the bath water. They had the same mediator who worked with te nfl working with them a few weeks ago, and this is where we wound up.

Danks and Floyd drawing interest
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 09:09 PM) It'd be murder-suicide to hold on to guys with your lone hope for competing in '12 being Dunn, Rios, Beckham and Peavy rebounding (staying healthy in Peavy's case). If Kenny is saying the word rebuilding then that murder suicide must happen. If you trade any part other than Quentin and also lose Buehrle, that's the season.

Danks and Floyd drawing interest
QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 08:58 PM) Is he really that bad? He's not old, he has had some injury history but nothing permanent, and he has a fair amount of power. He's a free agent at the end of next year and there may be no draft pick compensation. Holding onto him would be absolutely nuts if you don't think you have the division this year. Same for Danks.
