Sox officially hire coaches
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 02:18 PM) There's a reason these things don't happen in the real world. It would make sense if Ventura had some management experience. It's like an owner of a business deciding to make his son, who had previously worked in the mail room for about 15 years and has since been backpacking across Europe for about 8 years, the VP of his company. It would help if the guy had even been a manager of a handful of employees at some level of the company beforehand. And instead of making his right-hand man someone who had experience with a high level of authority in another similarly-sized corporation, he picks his buddy who was the night manager of a White Castle. I don't have to have run a Fortune 500 company to know that this is a mistake. It might work out down the line somehow, but the guy should have at least put in some effort to get where he is. So, Robin Ventura = Billy Madison?

- Frasor $3.75M Option Picked Up
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 02:08 PM) He is an interesting one. The problem is if you make Sale a starter, and trade Matt, you have no lefty depth left. Santiago clearly seems next in line in that case.- Frasor $3.75M Option Picked Up
QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) I doubt Thornton returns. I'd guess that this move does increase the chances he's moved...but that moves Santiago into the pen as a 2nd lefty, and Reed is still barely making it. No room for Axelrod, no room for Stewart, no room for Infante, unless they outpitch Reed in ST.- Frasor $3.75M Option Picked Up
How about that. Santos Thornton Ohman Frasor Ohman Crain Reed gets the 7th bullpen spot?- 2012 MLB Catch All thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 02:03 PM) Again, if we don't pick up his option, we aren't offering arbitration. on Frasor or Pierre? I was joking on Pierre.- 2012 MLB Catch All thread

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 01:57 PM) Watch that section of your closet grow. I buy 2 new suits every 3-4 months. Mens warehouse usually has a 2 for 2 designed suit sale that you can hit up and then my tailor does the rest (I dont let them cut the suit at that place). I have an entire section of my closet for suits at this point. I also go through a pair of black dress shoes about every 2-4 months. I'm sure I'll have more need of them in the next few years if I can actually pull off one of these faculty jobs...grad students and postdocs get invited to very few formal functions of any sort.- Founding Fathers ~ Who ya got?
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 01:55 PM) I didn't say he wasn't important - just that I think others were more so. He had a framework to function within, that he had very little input into building. The most important thing Washington did was decide that he didn't want to be come a king/dictator. The army probably would have followed him if he'd wanted to.- Job Hunt Thread
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 01:44 PM) So you literally have ONE suit? That seems unpossible to me. Grad school.- Tony LaRussa is retiring.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 10:36 AM) I caught a bit of breakdown on one of the post game shows. it was interesting because they were saying that Tebows biggest problem as a QB is that he throws to where receivers are, instead of where they are going to be. If that's the case...that's an issue which is coachable/learnable with time and a good QB coach. Does denver even have a QB Coach?- Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 10:08 AM) When your whole campaign is about having the character to be President, this could be a deathblow. It's not like he has foreign policy knowhow to fall back on. Or any kind of actual knowhow. Blaming this on the media can certainly work. It worked for governor a**-grabber in California. The LA Times ran that same type of story a week before the election, and they still won by saying it was a liberal media smear. Turned out of course he wasn't just a womanizer, he'd had a child with a housekeeper about 2 years beforehand, so the LAT was right on track...but they were the liberal media, and that attack worked.- Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 09:52 AM) Elway & Fox want nothing to do with Tebow. I think they are just showing the fanbase how bad he is, so they don't get upset when they move him in the future. Then they shouldn't have benched Orton for him in the first place.- Republican 2012 Nomination Thread

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 09:34 AM) Well, that's convenient. He made a pass yesterday (an out route) that made Henry Burriss look like Johnny Unitas. The dude just can't throw the football and makes poor decisions. His own team is probably already ready to give up on him... I bet we see Orton on Sunday. Wouldn't surprise me to see Orton again soon either...which is why Denver should have moved either him or Tebow. One of the two. They're doing a spectacular job of making sure Tebow is set up to fail.- Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
That isn't a denial. Also not a denial. Eventually, the AP got an actual denial...but it took nearly a full day of spinning/blaming the liberal media/being called out by Geraldo for not issuing a denial for them to do so.- Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 09:21 AM) Read my post again if you think I said that. And whether Luck needs that or not is totally irrelevant. Luck is an incredible asset for a team like Indy, and having him as a backup option to Manning who could go down at any time and be done forever, that is an awesome thing to have. Something that the Chargers had for a short period of time with brees and rivers QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 09:25 AM) Not at all. I think he would have started out at the very minimum as a competent if not very good QB. As he played more and matured, he would have become what we see now, if not sooner than he did before. Nice try at twisting my words though The post where you said "Read my post again if you think I said that" was in regards to me asking if you thought Rogers would have attained this same level of success if he was given the starting job right away. In your first post here, you cast doubt on yourself having said that, in the 2nd post, you argue that is exactly the case. Anyway...I think Rogers would have stepped in right away and produced multiple years of struggling, of the sort that cost offensive coordinators their job regularly. And yes, I think that's the path to being Alex-Smithed. I'll leave it at that.- Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
