Could Sox trade AJ?
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 07:29 PM) I gagged after I read that. The sooner AJ is gone, the better. Disagree. If AJ was not being paid $6 million this year I'd have no urge to move him without a legit prospect in return. Solid performance this year from the catcher's spot. As long as AJ keeps putting up .725 OPS's out of the catcher's spot, I won't be mad at him. He's not good at throwing but he covers the ball quite well.

Frank Thomas: I could be the White Sox hitting coach.
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 06:36 PM) I seem to remember the Big Hurt was chastised maybe by PK over a perceived lack of hustle or something only to find out Frank had a broken foot? I believe PK apologized profusely. Am I right or wrong here? Almost certain that was David Wells, not Konerko.

Tasers, flashlights, whatever, are supposed to come out in circumstances where police would have used a lethal weapon and can instead spare a person's life. Tasers, flashlights, whatever, right now, come out when it is convenient to use them. No one would have shot the "don't tase me bro!" guy in the middle of a library for refusing to leave. No one would shoot a 90 year old woman for disagreeing with police. No one would shoot dozens of people in that crowd in Oakland. They will risk a "Less than lethal" weapon because they aren't lethal as often. When one of those circumstances comes up, they deserve to be questioned. Because occasionally they kill people in situations where the use of deadly force seems patently ridiculous...and the fact that these are rarely lethal doesn't mean we can't question their use when they do wind up being lethal to people who shouldnt' be killed.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 05:14 PM) Do they know what he was hit by? I thought it was unclear if it was bean bag, canister or rubber bullet. I could of swore he had a canister shaped fracture pattern, but that could just be an early anecdote. A rubber bullet should not cause a skull fracture. That really defeats the purpose of those.

Bacardi at the Park taxpayer funded
QUOTE (chiguy79 @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 03:36 PM) This media story is being driven by Ricketts, he is going to try to show that the Sox have such a sweatheart deal that when he asks for $300mm to renovate Wrigley it won't seem so bad. Hopefully the people of Illinois aren't willing to play the sucker again. Moreso, unlike the Sox who I believe we likely to relocate, Ricketts doesn't have that as a real option unless he wants to destroy the value of his franchise, I am sure Ricketts will announce trying to get public funds again around the holidays when no one is paying attention. I bet you're exactly right.

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 04:49 PM) In all seriousness if you are a good team in the AL the manager does nothing until the playoffs and in 2005 Guillen had to do virtually nothing. In the AL your pitcher pitches until he is tired, your 9 best hitters are in the line-up so other than the LHP/LHH v RHP/RHH what does the manager do. If you watched the White Sox this year, you saw as plain as could be how much damage a manager could to...from the lack of preparation to open the season (2 years in a row) to the insistence on playing a certain type of ball, to a total unwillingness to adapt to or understand what his own pitchers could give. Alternatively, I think that the 2005 Oz did a great job of setting his team up. They came out of ST as fired up as any team we've ever seen. The guys got enough rest during the year based on Ozzie's "Day off" rules (which were repealed after 2005, for some reason I can't figure out), and they reacted incredibly well when pressure was put on them. I might have agreed with you more post 07-08...but man, last year...I usually am the one who defends the managerial moves even when they don't make sense, but that was just torture.

U.S. launches airstrikes on Libya
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 04:40 PM) I'm finding it odd that people are concerning themselves with rebel justice when they killed a guy that was straight up bombing civilians to quash a rebellion against him. Are they really expected to take him alive and hold him to a trial and trust that the "leaders" of the country couldn't be swayed or bought to let him free? Doing exactly that would be a great way for a new "Democratic" government to establish a level of trust with both the people and with the international community.

Could Sox trade AJ?
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 03:25 PM) I think the Sox will keep AJ one more year with Flowers seeing time as a DH and a backup for AJ. It wouldn't make much sense dealing him as he wouldn't bring much back in return. Unless the Sox are desperate to shed $6 million of course? The rules really haven't changed much...the Sox would probably deal him in a heartbeat if someone would take on that $6 million, or if someone would give something back of non-trivial value with the Sox chipping in a couple million. I don't think either of those are too likely...could happen if someone were desperate for a catcher, due to an injury or a retirement or somethinglike that.

So pretty much every year that the Sox were clearly out of it after 3 months KW traded away some veterans.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 01:50 PM) What schools are you looking at, if you don't mind my asking? Just curious what your list looks like, and what end of the earth you may end up occupying. I will go anywhere that will hire me. I'm currently limiting myself to "This continent." Flying to Oregon for this one. Others I know I'll be applying at are Baylor, Purdue (shudder), Toronto, Arkansas. So yeah, moderately eclectic set of locations.

Bacardi at the Park taxpayer funded
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 01:55 PM) That would likely only be related to the money specifically coming from that sponsorship. They did also get what, $30 million in public spending on the park in that deal (Stripping a few upper deck rows, the Fundamentals area, new seats), so it's not inconceivable that they'd have changed the new revenue clauses in that deal...but you're right, they probably didn't touch the parking areas in that deal, and that's where this bar sits.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 01:46 PM) I wonder if the police would ever do something like this to a tea party protest? What the #occupy protests need is a series of people standing around with legally permitted AK-47's.

Here's another statement from Oakland's mayor. Oakland's mayor believes that some portion of the police presence did not act professionally.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 08:47 AM) Based on the history's of other occupy protests, this was all set up ahead of time. A part of the strategy has been to get a certain number of people arrested to keep attention and sympathy on the protests. It's definitely true that people were willing to get arrested due to the camp breaking up. I won't complain about that. The question is about the firing of stuff into the crowd.

Bacardi at the Park taxpayer funded
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 12:40 PM) Correct. The contract was heavily favoring the Sox because the state was trying to keep them around. They got a sweet deal as a result. I'd imagine that the contract language probably directly relates to the fact that Bacardi at the Park is across the street, clearly within space that used to be a parking lot.
