  1. QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 02:18 PM) why bother? Because Viciedo and De Aza are in the lineup and Stewart is on the mound.
  2. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 02:25 PM) He's also been bailed out by his WRs. Knox especially. And he's forced 2 throws that should have been picked. "Jay Cutler being bailed out by his WR's" is something that almost never happened last year. We might have seen that more in 1 game this year than in the first 8 last year.
  3. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 02:23 PM) Cutler had an easy TD throw to Davis and overthrew him. Even though his stats are nice (15/20, 219 yards, 1 TD) he has not played as well as those stats indicate. 2 ways to take that though...if Cutler had played a perfect game so far, he'd have almost put this game in the bag, and he's done a number of really good things so far. He missed that throw, he forced 1 throw to Hester, and he's held the ball too long on a few plays.
  4. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 02:10 PM) Well, that was quick. Steven Jackson didn't even get to 3 carries before he got injured and is out for the game. :chair He did get you a long TD though.
  5. Tillman has had a great first half.
  6. Pierre, dh Ramirez, ss Konerko, 1b Pierzynski, c Viciedo, rf Rios, cf De Aza, lf Morel, 3b Beckham, 2b Stewart, p Ah, the Juan Pierre, Rios in Cf format. Now there's a lineup!
  7. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 01:48 PM) Abraham is owning Webb. 2 sacks already. Cutler held the ball way too long on that last sack.
  8. THAT is the Bears Defense we remember.
  9. QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 01:38 PM) Question, have we not learned much about economies in the past 80 years? Is it still such and inexact science that improving on the results from the depression isn't possible? Why is there even a debate as to what to do? A lot of economists I read say that we know exactly what we should be doing right now...but we're choosing not to because the right thing to do right now is politically risky. Just like in 1937 when the recession resumed because FDR took the politically expedient move and tried to cut the deficit...it's hard to keep running massive deficits even when the bond market is screaming to do so.
  10. Matt Forte says "you can't tackle this sh*t!"
  11. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 01:33 PM) Offense is looking better than the defense so far.. (never thought I'd say that) URLACHER SAYS F*** THAT!
  12. QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 01:30 PM) Would you please elaborate? What are you considering as the start? Federal debt according to the Treasury dept.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 01:29 PM) We are on the exact same path right now. I know you won't ever see it that way, well unless it was the GOPs fault, but they are remarkably similar, your comparision of unemployment levels actually would strengthen that because back then they didn't make all of the specialized adjustments for people who can't seek unemployment, the underemployed etc. Effective unemployment right now isn't too far from 20% in reality. We started on the exact same path in the fall of 2008. GDP was shrinking at a 9% annualized rate. In the depression, GDP sank by 9% in 1930, 7% in 1931, and 12% in 1932. The GDP drop going into Obama's term was on the same pace as 1930. But that entirely turned around and instead of a 9% drop over the full year, things leveled off and began growing at 1% for the next 2 years. GDP is monstrously above where it was in the depression. Employment is monstrously above where it was in the depression. The level of shock was the same, but the path diverged rapidly after March 2009. (Blue bars in this graph). We did the 1930 bar for 1/2 of a year. Then we passed the stimulus package. And instead of giant negative bars, mimimally positive bars.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 01:26 PM) Are you really trying to use both unemployment figures interchangably? Wow. Do you really want to argue that current stagnation levels are comparable to 1931? Seriously?
  15. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 12:41 PM) I think he has that potential, he has to live up to it of course over a long period of time. I'm still concerned that Hudson may have elbow issues in the near future. He clearly has the potential to be a solid player...but Roy Halladay is a hall of fame pitcher. That, IMO, makes the comparison almost useless...because even 99% of the people with Roy Halladay's "Potential" don't wind up as hall of famers.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 12:03 PM) There are plenty of places to do that which is why I wanted a place for something different. Which is why these comments and reactions are not in that thread. Because the people who want to react that way deserve that space to do so.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 11:58 AM) Wait, what? Have you missed the stimulus's and QE's totally? We are on pretty much the same path as the great depression and just like then it isn't working. What the? Did you seriously just say that the economic conditions in 2011, 3 years after the crash, are comparably bad to those in 1931? Unemployment was approaching 20% by the end of 1931. It's stuck at 9% now. That ought to tell you how effective the interventions have been.
  18. So far the Falcons are teeing off on the run, but Cutler is having protection and time to look downfield or to find open guys.
  19. I must say, Indiana has some impressively unique ways to lose ballgames. Wow.
  20. I'm going to have my tv on all day. It's kickoff day. I understand how others want to honor their memories or their friends. I don't begrudge anyone their style of grief or memory. I can live without State Farm sponsoring ads telling me how important I should think things are. Or how I need to male sure I remember in a certain, appropriate way.
  21. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 05:52 PM) Personal goal for today and tomorrow: Avoid as many references to 9/11 as is humanly possible. My reaction is similar.
  22. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 05:47 PM) Nah. Dust is the most important initative facing our lives. We need to eliminate dust since it is a violation of freedom of dust mites. *Cough*.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 05:31 PM) Maybe, maybe not. I do know it would have strengthened the Sox and weakened the division champion. It also would have probably saved KW from signing Dunn. Ozzie said no, took full responsibility for it, then said it wasn't only him. Who knows the truth. The bottom line is its KW's responsibility to form the roster. If Ozzie talks him into a mistake, that's not on Ozzie. If KW is ordered to give Ozzie the roster he wants though...
  24. Dust can be a ridiculously hazardous substance and a major contributor to breathing issues. Keeping dust under control has been a major part of the clean air act. Dust generated by dry land out west was one of the largest contributors to U.S. air pollution before the city of L.A. was forced to give back some of its water to keep it wet. And as the Wall Street Journal put it about the federal regulation requiring tractor drivers to get a commercial license, "There is no such regulation." I'm impressed that at least 1 of the regulations you complained about was in fact real. Usually we get the rants about how Obama was mean to wall street by only giving them a trillion dollars rather than taking them over.
  25. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 04:04 PM) As a fan, I felt the same way. They were not a good team. In fact I only watched the 2nd half of the playoffs cause I knew they were not a Super Bowl team. They were in the Super Bowl in 2010 and started that 2009 season what, 12-0?
