This season is a statement on organizational resiliency
QUOTE (Crash73 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 06:01 PM) Thanks GH for a refreshing point of view. If this teams gets hot at the right time, not even the East teams will want to face our pitching. Trouble is, the East teams just thrashed us last week. Including beating up on that pitching.

Changes Looming If No Postseason
QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 06:02 PM) I don't believe managers make much of a difference. However, GM's make a HUGE difference. Especially when they suck. The Sox desperately need to get KW out of the organization. What are the chances of this happening? I don't know what exactly all the details are on KW's contract and such. I think if we miss the playoffs this year, it's clear Ozzie is gone. If Ozzie is finally gone, I'm not sure about Kenny. He might well hang it up on his own. He might well have been told by JR that his job was on the line if they went all-in as well, and if that's the case then he should be removed as well. If he told JR that there was risks to going to $125 million and they might still not win the central, and JR said that was acceptable, then that should buy him another year to try to salvage things. Where it goes from there would depend on what happened next year. A $100 million 65 win team might well finish him.

Dunn to miss next few games
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 05:47 PM) I like when mods blatantly call a poster an asshole and it's all a-ok. A fair point.

Complete White Sox draft and signings list
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 03:59 PM) So are the Sox going to end up spending less in this draft than anyone else? Anyone else not have a first round pick?

Changes Looming If No Postseason
QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 04:12 PM) Short of a World Series title I'm with you on this one. Hell even if they DID win the WS we know what the chances of a repeat are so let's finally clean house. Congratulations Mr. Guillen, Mr. Williams. You're fired. Will you come back for the banner unveiling?

Tigers acquire Delmon Young from Twins
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 04:14 PM) Then they wouldn't have Scherzer and their rotation would be even worse And Granderson would have 1/2 as many HR.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 02:54 PM) It was reported that he actually cleared waivers first. Doesn't have to be accurate though.

2011 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Cali @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 02:43 PM) Holy Crap! Jason Marquis pitched on a broken leg for 13 pitches and an at-bat.... Ouch After being pulled, he went on twitter and started insulting Jay Cutler.

Tigers acquire Delmon Young from Twins
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 02:42 PM) He'll have a good amount more protection in that lineup. I'd expect his numbers to get better. He's also moving to Comerica though. No matter what people say about Target Field...Comerica is huge.

Tigers acquire Delmon Young from Twins
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 02:41 PM) How did Delmon Young slip through waivers? He might have just fallen to the Tigers and had the Tigers put a claim on him. I think that would mean, for example, the NL never saw him, the Yankees/Boston never saw him if that were true.

Tigers acquire Delmon Young from Twins
Gotta think that was not a cheap move for them.

To Sequel or not to Sequel
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 02:29 PM) Did others not enjoy Goldmember? I know it was the worst of the three Austin Powers movies, but I still found it funny. Not in the least.

Most hit by cars in Chicago are in crosswalks
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 02:21 PM) Then I am sure my numbers are wrong, because they stand out as by far the most dangerous. The only other thing in their neighborhood are the bus drivers and delivery bikers. That's entirely possible, too, I just want to see numbers that convince me either way, and this number by itself can't do so, even if its high, without an accompanying piece of data. You can say, for example, that the cabs are far more aggressive, and still have them cause less accidents because they know the area a lot better and know where people are likely to jump out in their way.
-
Most hit by cars in Chicago are in crosswalks
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 02:18 PM) That doesn't make their driving any less dangerous. If they're involved in a disproportionately low number of accidents relative to their fraction of traffic, that means the safest thing you could do is get rid of all the non-taxi traffic.
-
Most hit by cars in Chicago are in crosswalks
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 02:10 PM) In the loop? Probably half of the traffic is cabs. Pretty much every accident I see involves at least one cab. Well, if half the traffic is cabs, then a large majority of 2 car accidents would involve 1 cab, and 50% of the pedestrian accidents should involve 1 cab.
-
Most hit by cars in Chicago are in crosswalks
Now wait a second. What percentage of the miles driven within the urban core are driven by taxis? From walking downtown if you told me it was 30%, that wouldn't seem obscenely high to me. The question is always whether they are a problem beyond everyone else, and that number doesn't prove it.

Sale to Start Next Year?
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 01:45 PM) I think Sale should stay as a lefty releiver. He can be dominant for 2 or even three inings. Hard to say what he might be like as a starter after the 5thj or 6th inning Dominant middle/long relief is as much of a waste of resources as you can get. If you've got a dominant reliever, he ought to be your closer. If you have 2, one is your closer and one is your setup man...or you do the other smart thing and realize that having 2 closers is reducing the value of 1 of them, and trade that closer for an everyday player or a starter.

Waivers thread
Either 2k5 really loves this twitter thing or he's freaked out that someone is now less than 10k posts behind him.

Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 12:40 PM) Balta, did you see the comment I made about buying Apple TV and then buying a mlb.tv subscription? I think this would replace the Extra Innings package for far less money year-in and year-out. I've got a feeling that's where the world is slowly heading, iams.

Mark Buehrle New Contract
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 11:06 AM) I really think MB could be an effective pitcher into his 40s ala Jamie Moyer. Sure, that would mean finishing his career in the NL, but it's clearly not outside the realm of possibility. I also think an extension with the Sox would be awesome. I think almost everyone believes that, Steve. The only question has been whether M-56 actually wants to pitch that long.

Mark Buehrle New Contract
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 11:04 AM) To be fair, MB's 06 and Dunn's 11 are nothing close to each other in terms of sucktitude. Adam Dunn is literally having one of the worst offensive seasons in the history of baseball. MB was just "bad" in 2006. Dunn is into "historical bad." I dunno, dude put up an ERA > 7 from July 1 on that year. That's as bad as Lackey was for the first few months this year.

Mark Buehrle New Contract
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 10:54 AM) Jeez, talk about pulling something out of your ass. That's why he retired after 2006. Shame we didn't get to see Buehrle pitch until the end of 2011 on the South Side, would have been nice, but at least he got a ring. Wonder if he'd ever have thrown that no hitter, he kept getting so close.

Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 10:58 AM) My wife's aunt has had it for years and loves it. She is the reason we are thinking about switching. From the prices I've seen, it would be about the same or less than what we are paying for cable and we'd get more channels. The only sports package I'd really want would be MLB. I could do without the other sports. That's what I do is the MLB package. It costs less than the football package and instead of 17 days with games I get ~170. If you have a relative who has DirectTV, they'll usually spread around an extra $100 if you tell them that relative referred you. Or you can tell them I did (you'll need an account number).
