QUOTE (T R U @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 11:46 PM) Its not the science part as its almost like they believe he could go throw a 97 mph fastball It'd take some time to adapt the hand and arm to it, but if you had a guy working on it for a period of weeks/months, that's prbably what it would translate to.

Its surprising that they're still playing him if this is where hsi hand is at.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 12:23 AM) Nope. Grew up north of Chicago, went to IU for college (graduated this past May), and just moved to Minneapolis for law school. I've been here a few times though, so I know a good place or two. Mostly of the brewpup variety though, I haven't had a chance to be too adventurous yet. The conference is a group of geologists. I'll give it a 50/50 shot that after we're there for 4 days the state of Minnesota will have run dry.

I'll generally start my mega thread off with a politico discussion of the maps.

So, it's about time for one big nomination thread, considering we have stuff scattered in 5 of them. Left one thread in tact because that conversation had long since diverted from nomination talk, hopefully it works its way off the front page in time. Use this for all your 2012 Republican nomination news/talk.

QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 10:10 PM) Man i wish we could of had him on that team last year.Hell even this year. To bad our manager thought Mark Kotsay and Andruw Jones were better options. Congrats Big Jim!Keep it up! Andruw Jones would have been a perfect platoon match for Thome last year.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 09:32 PM) This case? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/...th-penalty.html No, this one

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 09:28 PM) Rick Perry murdered someone? Refused to hear appeal from a guy on death row with legitimate science saying he didn't do it, defends himself by saying that the guy was a bad person, shut down an investigation looking into the case.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 09:19 PM) he should have accepted the challenge and battled I doubt they had enough time. Who knows? Could still happen.

Hate pitching to that guy. Except for 4 years, one of the all time Sox killers.

Congrats, Jimmy

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 08:16 PM) As long as one was not the DH, they could still go in at Catcher and preserve the DH. I can't think of anything bad that coul happen by putting Flowers at 1b.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 07:27 PM) Moved into my new place in Minneapolis...boxes are EVERYWHERE. Are you from Minny? I'll be there for a conference in October, would love dining suggestions downtown.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 08:11 PM) Could you not see this storm coming on radar? It'll be interesting to see all the lawsuits that come from this. Yes, and there was a warning 4 minutes before the thing blew over, but the storm itself wasn't there yet: this was a shock front out in front of the rain storm line. When the warning was stated, the people with the goodspots near the stage didn't want to give up their spots and it wasn't mandatory.

QUOTE (since56 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 06:32 PM) Delmon Young traded from Twins to Tigers. Since the trade deadline passed does this mean he cleared waivers? Yes. There is a thread on this (2 actually) in the Diamond Club.

State & Local taxes...a huge difference in tax rates between the upper crust and everyone else (elderly excluded). The "Federal offset" is the fact that the IRS allows you to deduct state and local taxes.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 12:31 PM) Well no, but from my buddy who works in this area with Motorola as a client, this new deal will definitely enhance Motorola's next tablet. I'm guessing sometime this fall it'll be released to compete with Amazon's new tablet. A good chunk of the financial reaction seems to think that this is Google spending $10 billion to enhance their case in Apple's patent infringement lawsuits.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 06:15 PM) I can pretty much guarantee that if you ask anyone on Yanks or Red Sox, they'd rather face the Sox instead of Tigers because of Verlander. Verlander can't win 3 in a 5 game series. And he'd have to beat either Beckett or Sabathia.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 04:30 PM) Phillies Then they're the only ones who will be remotely close, but they probably got an early 2nd and a high sandwich for Werth I'd assume, that will push them higher than us.
