No wonder our farm system is in a Shambles
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 12:37 PM) Most of them outside of 2007 and possibly last season, due to Ozzie's hairbrained decision. I think in 2007 we still thought we had a very talented team. I can recall a thread here asking if our bullpen could be historically good because of the number of power arms in it (Jenks, Thornton, Masset, Aardsma, McDougal coming off a very good year, someone I'm forgetting). I think the only year we sorta said that other teams were clearly more talented than us was 2008, because we were coming off that awful 07 campaignn.

No wonder our farm system is in a Shambles
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 12:34 PM) Well, up until this year, I'd argue our payroll was pretty manageable. And I have never viewed our failures to win this division as a lack of talent, which is what this complaint is all about. I view it as a lack of execution. That falls more on the coaching of the players we do have than on the GM and FO for acquiring the players they have. This is very true. How many years in the last decade have we gone into the season not thinking we were the most talented team in the Central?

2011 AL Central Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 12:16 PM) Well, I take that stuff with a grain of salt, plus I factor in a team's needs and current state. I don't think the Royals should be spending more than a few million on a filler player (and that's how I view Francouer), they should keep payroll limited to only guys they need to keep to build around and improving their young talent acquisitions. When you should get mad is if he's obviously blocking one of their up and coming young guys in the next year (a-la our OF with Viciedo). If that's not happening, then a few million won't hurt. They had a $4 million option on him for 2012 which was almost certain to be picked up after the year he's had anyway.

2011 AL Central Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 12:03 PM) If it was for anything over $5 mill total in the extension then it was a bad move. In the fangraphs world, he was worth $2.4 million last year and has already topped $10 million this year.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 10:13 AM) She must have been playing to this audience: (can someone remind me how to embed videos?) First, while at the Youtubes, hit the "Share" button, then the "Embed" button, and copy the embed code. Paste the embed code into the post box in the "Full reply" window (can't do it in quick reply). Then, at the bottom, where there is a pulldown menu next to "Post options" - select "HTML on - Auto Linebreak mode".
