Jim Hendry is out as GM
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 12:46 PM) They do eventually need to gut or rebuild, but if they do anything other than rebuild a new Wrigley, in the same place with many of the same touches, it would be an epic fail. Basically, they need Windows 7 after Vista.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 10:05 AM) Dunn had two hits in Thursdays game. What I want to see is some RBI's Doesn't that require people being on base and in scoring position in front of him? Or if it's Konerko, at 3b?

Financial News
To be fair though, by the time an investor is in his or her late 40's/early 50's, then it's about time to be moving larger shares into things that are unlikely to lose value, like Treasuries, rather than keeping them in the volatile parts of the casino that are covered nightly on the news. Of course, that doesn't seem to happen very often.

What is your favorite Simpsons episode?
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 09:52 AM) The episode where Ralph wins the science fair or something like that. "My cat's breath smells like catfood!" That was the "Diorama Rama". Principal Skinner's favorite event next to "Hearing test Thursday".

That Indians schedule remains brutal.- Why move Stewart to the pen instead of Humber?
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 11:30 PM) Can't we just give him Ohman like innings in the pen? Use him a lot? I really think starting him is akin to an automatic loss the rest of the way. Don't you agree he's that bad right now? Especially in terms of building up his arm, no. There's a big difference between gearing up to throw 75 pitches+ with a full warmup and hopping in on short rest.- Changes Looming If No Postseason
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 03:06 AM) I'm OK with that, but add Kenny too. Aren't you sick of seeing a guy get a hit with a man on first and no way in hell the guy is going to advance to third? I mean I still want some big home run hitters, but there's got to be a happy medium. Kenny's everyday players aren't that good. If it's Konerko on 1st, then no, I'm really not mad.- AJP to DL w/ fractured wrist

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 09:28 PM) So did Stewart just make a bad mistake on the 0-2 pitch to Laporta? Yeah, hanging offspeed. Dude was probably just gassed, hes been working an on normal rest for 2 years now- 8/18 Game Thread: Indians @ White Sox, 7:10pm CT
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 09:27 PM) You're going to have to take the good and the bad with that...he'll draw a lot of walks but take a ton of called third strikes. The thing about that though is that es makin the pitcher give him something to hit.- 8/18 Game Thread: Indians @ White Sox, 7:10pm CT

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 08:40 PM) I think the workload may have caught up to him. He really hasn't pitched all that much recent years. Who knows, maybe this little break is a blessing and the breather he needs to come back strong. I think we've pretty much all been saying he's gassed, but we need to push him to build up for next year as much as we can- 8/18 Game Thread: Indians @ White Sox, 7:10pm CT

QUOTE (shlammajamma @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 06:29 PM) Well captain arrogance, Rios played plus RF most of his career with the Blue Jays, while playing abysmal CF defense this year. I even remember somebody on the score saying that Rios said he feels more comfortable in RF, since it's his natural position. You tell me, has Rios looked better than De Aza in CF to you? I've only seen De Aza in CF in a game or two, and last night he was clearly playing way too deep on one play which made sure he had no chance to throw out a runner at home, and playing very deep is usually a weakness for an OF. Rios played RF most of his career with the Jays because they happened to have Vernon Wells in CF. And although Rios's CF performance has been admittedly lazy and down from last year, he was an average CF last year. So far, it's hard for me to say that it's blatantly obvious that De Aza is a defensive upgrade.- 8/18 Game Thread: Indians @ White Sox, 7:10pm CT
QUOTE (shlammajamma @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 06:12 PM) anybody have an explanation for Ozzie playing Rios in CF and De Aza in RF? De Aza is clearly better than Rios in CF, and Rios is naturally a RF'er.... What are you basing either of those conclusions on?- Financial News
If you're invested in mutual funds, I'd imagine you're something of a long-term investor? It might not be the worst thing ever to move some funds from that Mutual fund to Treasuries right now, despite how expensive they are, if you're concerned by the possibility of additional losses. If you're investing for the 20-30 year horizon, then this is just a buying opportunity. - 2011 AL Central Catch-All Thread
