  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 02:05 PM) 5-0 Tigers. Lookin' like a sweep. I said it weeks ago...the Tigers will clinch with at least a week left in the season and win 87-89 games. Assuming Porcello doesn't fall apart, the Tigers will be the 2nd team in the bigs with 3 12+ game winners (after, of course, Philly).
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 02:02 PM) Indeed, rarely do you see Santos strike out one batter in an inning with his fastball. Last night, it was two For the last out, SS threw what, 4 straight sliders to start off? 2 swinging for the 0-2 count, then the hitter laid off the next 2 for balls, then Tyler called for the fastball, the hitter was expecting to lay off another slider again, and that was the game.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 02:04 PM) In two years, Pomeranz will be a better starter than Jimenez. Jimenez just looks awful every time I watch him this season. Jiminez still has it in him to tear the league apart, but we haven't seen that version of him since about the all star break last year.
  4. Delmon Young crushes a ball to make it a 5-0 Kitty cat lead.
  5. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 01:49 PM) Exactly. Nobody wants Adam Dunn/Alex Rios. If the Sox need to cut salary, and want to restock somewhat, Alexei Ramirez is not cheap even if he is cheap relative to his contract. That is a reason to move him, and the fact that he is still cheap relative to his contract is what makes him moveable.
  6. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 01:19 PM) WSJ goes into full-blown anti-intellectual, appeal to "common sense" mode. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142405...BelowLEFTSecond This is a signed editorial by Stephen Moore, one of the WSJ's Op-ed writers, not an unsigned opinion piece representing the paper. While I wouldn't be surprised if a substantial fraction of their editorial staff agreed, it is incorrect to label this as the "WSJ" going into that mode.
  7. Noticed how Flowers has Santos work batters different from AJ. When AJ's catching, you know that Santos is going to get 2 strikes on guys using the fastball early, and then he's going to bury the slider. Sometimes he'll use an elevated slider as a show-me pitch somewhere in the first 2-3 so that when the good slider comes the batter doesn't recognize, it, but the formula is 2 strikes, then byebye. Flowers was using the wipeout slider much more heavily early in the at bat.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 01:35 PM) Another one of Marty's brilliant ideas. Trade one of the best players in the league at his position while he is still a bargain. Nice work. That is how you rebuild sometimes.
  9. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 02:02 PM) Start pulling your weight. Tell your Earth Sciences department to start hiring.
  10. Rangers are averaging 6.1 runs a game over their last 15.
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 01:34 PM) I feel awful for her kids Yeah, they're probably kinda hungry.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 01:35 PM) On the other hand, Hahn is an obvious Top 5 choice for Cubs' GM. Sandberg would be about as popular to Sox fans as Steve Alford would be were he to come back to the University of Indiana as head coach after his previous failure at Iowa...some would love the idea, but the majority would be against it. Why would the majority be against Sandberg coaching the Sox? He's been in baseball a long time and has been building up a reservoir of coaching experience by working his way up through the minors. He's been working with young kids, several of whom are now having success with their big league squad. He seemingly has been willing to put aside any luxury trappings and actually work at becoming a manager. And unlike your example, Sandberg hasn't clearly done a weak job as a manager for another big league squad.
  13. He always had a hitch in his swing, he had that when he came up, but its become more pronounced with time.
  14. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 10:52 AM) What white-trash American speaks of their weight in "stone." Me. Of course, I specify the type of stone, since there's about a variability of a factor of 2 in density between something like a sandstone and an ultramafic rock.
  15. Remember folks, it is averages. I figure I'm probably at about 1/2 of that amount.
  16. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 01:03 PM) Hey, last post as a single person for me. And just past 10k! Congrats on at least 1 accomplishment!
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 12:09 PM) But isn't that basically the same argument as the one for the Sox hiring Ryne Sandberg as manager of the Sox? Rick Hahn's time as assistant GM is unlikely to land him in the Hall of Fame.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 10:25 AM) That would probably be regarded as an emergency exception to the rule. They really didnt have anywhere to play aside from Chicago, and Minnesota didnt want to hand the Bears another home game(as if it mattered anyways) If the field were declared unplayable, that would count in my book as an emergency.
  19. QUOTE (quickman @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 09:41 AM) can't NFL has an attendance minimum for stadiums. That is why the bears went to champaign. Didn't Minnesota break that rule last year?
  20. Whoever it was looking for a "Cheap tablet", now that HP has announced they're killing theirs, they've dramatically dropped the price in some places. Their own website dropped the 16 gb to $99 and the 32 gb to $149, but they've already sold out there. Today might be a good day to go checking Amazon and Best Buy to see if they match that price drop.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 03:27 AM) Can't win a division with that horrid of a hitting DH. 2 years in a row, same problem.
  22. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 12:41 AM) Is it okay to think Stewart might turn into a pretty darn good pitcher? I don't want to offend anybody. Yes. THat is acceptable.
  23. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 10:34 PM) I'd like the Brewers a lot more with a healthy Weeks. And I don't know about that Atlanta offense. The Phillies just have no discernible weakness. That atlant offense needs Heyward to stop beig Gordon Beckham
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 10:31 PM) Brewers are pretty damn good right now, and Kimbrel has got to be the most electric reliever in baseball this year for the Braves. As a Cubs hater, I enjoy seeing the depth of great teams in the NL. Greinke and Gallatdo migt well e able to hang with Lee and Roy in a 7 gamer, and the Brewers have a more complete lineup
