2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 09:27 AM) There are a lot of places Cuddyer makes sense. There are a lot of places a lot of players make sense. I wouldn't automatically assume Cuddyer to either Boston or New York, especially since I'm not even sure he's the best free agent on the market. He doesn't have to be the best FA on the market to be a good fit for those teams. Boston could use a corner OF who provides some production, plays good defense, and hits from the right side (to balance Ellsbury/Gonzalez/Crawford).

Humber Placed on DL
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 09:24 AM) With the vast majority of those guys washing out... Same thing with the vast majority of guys who kill in the minors too.

Humber Placed on DL
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 09:22 AM) The numbers say one thing for sure, but we have seen plenty of guys kill the minors and still not be ready to go at the major league level. But we've also seen plenty of guys who coaches/scouts doubt will make it in the major leagues get promoted and wind up in the bigs for 15 years.

Carlos Quentin sprained AC joint in shoulder
Carlos is probably out until Friday...but given that we have 2 offdays this week, that means he'll be missing what, 3 1/2 games, 2 of which we've already won.

White Sox Winner!
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 07:05 PM) Yet, if this was Brent Morel's numbers we were talking about, you would be shouting from a mountaintop about him and spinning them any which way you could. Because 1 guy is getting paid 22x the salary of the other guy, and therefore the more expensive guy was needed to fill a much more important role. And the more expensive guy has also not been a great fielder.

White Sox Winner!
The sad thing is, Rios only has a .675 OPS in August. By any reasonable standard he's not "starting to hit". By the standard of the .383 OPS he put up in July though...

Get Lillibridge Games at Short
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 06:32 PM) I would respectfully have to disagree with Marty, and you if this is your stance, that this would be the answer for the Sox The answer is all about where the Sox's team salary needs to go next year. If we have to get below $100 million, then you might well have to.

Get Lillibridge Games at Short
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 06:13 PM) If it's the Lillibridge with a line-drive/ground ball swing, maybe. If it's the "Hey, wow....I hit more homers than Adam Dunn" version who's constantly swinging for the fences with the big/long swing and striking out too much for someone so small, well, we've got 2/3rd's of our line-up already doing that. Short and compact, good. Whether he could hold up over 150+ games and against a steady diet of tough RH pitching, I doubt we'll ever have the opportunity to find out. If Dunn/Rios/Peavy are all coming back, Buehrle and/or Danks are gone (along with Quentin) and Lillibridge is the annointed SS...how many season tickets will that sell Mr. Smarty Marty Pants Rowland? 5000? 7500? It will be a dramatic falloff. The thing is, Lillibridge has hit most of his HR's by being short and quick and crushing a line drive.

Jose Tabata extended by the Pirates with a 6 year $14.75 mil deal, with 3 option years that could lock him up until 2019.

Jim Hendry is out as GM
Ricketts is talking about an experienced/successful GM, possibly currently employed as a GM somewhere as he feels the Cubs should be a great destination job. He's talking down the idea of promoting someone's assistant GM.

Gamethread: White Sox vs Rangers
QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 05:18 PM) would love to know the Sox record in the games when Dunn has not played. White Sox are 48-51 when Dunn starts, so we'd be 3 games up when he doesn't start.

Gamethread: White Sox vs Rangers
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 05:08 PM) Did Greg Walker hack into your SoxTalk account during the game?? No. I'm quite serious. I wonder if that's not his problem, he looks to take everything to RF, and so when someone comes in on him, he winds up getting weak contact on the ball when if he was trying to get out in front of it, he'd be able to take it hard to LF.

And there's another pitch Brent could have turned on and driven down the LF line. Lift and pull Brent! Open up those hips more and try to pull the ball!

Gamethread: White Sox vs Rangers
Brent has got to get out in front of that inside fastball and turn on it. That's the kind of pitch he can double down the LF line if he's a little more aggressive.

Big contract extension for Larry Fitzgerald, $50 million guaranteed, would tie him with Richard Seymour as the highest-paid non-QB in the NFL.

2011 AL Central Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 04:00 PM) Me thinks the Rockies knew something about Ubaldo. With the fact that he hasn't been the same this year in general and the fact that his velocity was down, it seems like everyone has suspected whatever the Rockies "knew". That said, if he's not actually hurt, then the guy with the 98 mph fastball that broke like a slider is still in there somewhere.
