QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 10:06 PM) Four runs up and double stealing against us? That's an insult worthy of throwing at a few Yankee players. Just because 4 runs is an insurmountable lead against the sox doesn't mean it's a big lead. Against most teams you have to at least get out of slam range before you take the foot off the gas.

Wow, swisher looks nothing like how he used to with the sox.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 09:43 PM) I'm so tired of watching Vizquel bat. Someone needs to tell Oney to tell his dad that Morel is better against RHP than LHP. Rios will take over at 3b then.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 09:41 PM) The changes came before the year. The spending. After what Jerry did last offseason, he's not going to open the pocketbook again to give Kenny more carte blanche to blow. Then bleeping sell!

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 09:35 PM) Compared to last season, it's not even close. Fangraphs had him virtually identical with the glove last time I looked.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 09:18 PM) honestly, do we get over .500 this year at any point? I'm starting to have my doubts (and no, that has nothing to do with this game). This is a tough series against the Yankees without our best hitter, then we get the twins. We don't win tonight and this could be a long losing skid.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 09:13 PM) Nobody is pouting Balta they have give up a s***load of hits with 2 outs this season alot late in games. And teams hit .218 against te sox with 2 outs and RISP. No matter how your gut feels, it's wrong. 23 teams have been worse in this regard.

Ozzie throws Lillibridge under the bus, spares Rios
QUOTE (Paulstar @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 07:40 PM) Honestly, the amount of contradiction and non-sense Ozzie has done and said this year is mind blowing. Does he really think the average Sox fan is that dumb and gonna believe everything he says? And I can't honestly believe Ozzie believes anything he is saying either. I have never been a big Ozzie fan, but never in my wildest dreams ever thought he could be this ridiculously bad as a manger. It really seems like he is doing a George Costanza and really trying to get fired. Picturing Ozzie driving around with the world series trophy dragged behind his car.

The Democrat Thread
You're right on the last part more than any other. Which is why "doing everything possible to help the economy and prevent another collapse" should have been the right move. Doing significant damage to the economy should have been something that was fought against like the dickens.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 05:53 PM) Well Durbin thinks so because he said the only they have not is because of the Republican filibuster. when John Kyl tried to tell him it only takes 51 votes to pass in Senate, turban said, well we only have 53. disgusting lying sack of elephant s***. It takes 60 votes to pass in the Senate when Democrats are in charge.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 05:48 PM) Funny how all of a sudden the media is noticing that austerity budgets in the middle of a stalled recession are actually a bad thing. Too bad they never bothered to press politicians on this over the last two months. That's been noticed?

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 05:45 PM) Exactly. There was no reason that the Democrats had to instantly adopt the rhetorical positions of the Republicans. If neither party will push back again the "ZOMG deficits! CUT CUT CUT!" hysteria (or insert any other liberal positions Democrats refused to advocate), how on earth are you supposed to organize a legitimate liberal primary challenge? You can actually see the impact of it in polling data. Which do you think should be a higher priority for the government: creating jobs or cutting the deficit? The people wanted jobs. They got convinced because both parties agreed the real problem was the deficit. Now we have a deficit reduction bill that will reduce jobs by 1.9 million next year.

Financial News
QUOTE (Cknolls @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 05:43 PM) Are the Senate Dems going to do their job for the first time in three years and actually produce a budget? I doubt it. Serious question...is that part of their job? Do senates typically produce their own budgets? The President always submits one, then the House takes it up as the place where revenue related bills must originate, but the Senate doesn't have budgetary rulemaking authority on its own does it?

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 05:24 PM) I'll be honest... - I'm not scared of Rick Perry being able to beat Obama - I'm not scared of Mitt Romney being able to beat Obama - I am scared of Jon Huntsman being able to beat Obama The economic policy institute estimates that the deal signed today will cost 1.9 million jobs by the end of 2012. If it's even half that, and there's no surge of investment elsewhere, you can be scared of any of them beating Obama.
