Job Hunt Thread
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 10:13 AM) A bit of a random question: At the end of the three interviews I have had, they typically end with "do you have any questions?" The ones I normally think of are work hours, on-call time, and compensation (pay). Is there anything else I should be asking that I am not thinking of? If there's something creative but relevant you can ask about the job itself, that would be a good opportunity. I've got a couple of those in my back pocket I've come up with if I can ever score a faculty position interview. Something that shows you've thought about the place/career more than their other candidates. if it's at the end of the interview and you add some creativity to a question, then that's the sort of thing an interviewer might remember.

The White Sox sign uber-talented DOUG DAVIS!!!
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 10:09 AM) If we throw in the towel, stretch him out... If he is a bad starter, we need to find out, because we need to know moving forward what our needs are. You're not going to figure out that Chris Sale is a bad starter based on September of this year. You're also not going to find out that he's a good starter based on September of this year.

Anthrax mystery solved?
I'm half surprised that I managed to find a bumpable anthrax thread using the Google. Link. I should also note that I'm glad McClatchey is still on this, along with Frontline and the NSF, even if it doesn't get covered. At present I'd say that it should be impossible to call the only biological attack in U.S. history a closed case for any reason other than politics.

Tyler Flowers will start tonight. What's Duffman's career high for strikeouts in a game?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 09:58 AM) Zambrano You lost me when you replied to the post where I was talking about Davis coming up to the Sox if the Sox throw in the towel.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 09:56 AM) In the context of the rest of the Tigers rotation, kinda. We're trading Doug Davis to the Tigers?

7/18 Games
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 09:28 AM) I don't see any similarities between them, other than they are relievers. Different pitchers, different histories, different movement through the system. I feel like we have a history of guys getting to the AAA level, stalling/struggling when they first get called up, then winding up having success with other franchises.

The White Sox sign uber-talented DOUG DAVIS!!!
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 09:28 AM) touche Remember that's an important clause. If we trade away Danks, Quentin, and Jackson, we're really not going to care how many games we win this season. The fewer games we win, the better our draft pick. Doug Davis is a guy we could bring up to lose 4 games in a month as the 5ths tarter, while giving, for example, Sale time to be stretched outl

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 08:36 AM) You obviously have never been to Austin. It's quite progressive and vegan friendly. Heck, with the Hispanic population that has a shot at being a blue state in 10 years. Good luck.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 02:10 AM) A lot different cause Reed is a reliever but ya, he'll be up in the bigs in no time. Bothered by this though...I'd have said the same about Infante last year.

Pittsburgh scouting Sox
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 12:29 AM) I'd say Teahen is a long shot, but I wouldn't completely rule it out if the Sox took on some cash. The Pirates have gotten a .629 OPS at 3B this year and their best option has really been Brandon Wood, who has all of a .664 OPS (and .593 against RHP). Teahen is technically a downgrade overall at .656, but sort of works as a platoon partner at .698 against RHP, so there are worse options out there. On top of that, due to his versatility, he can contribute off the bench for them as well as in pinch hitting circumstances. That's about the only guy the Sox could really trade at this point outside of maybe Rios. And with the Pirates having a total $50 million salary, you can knock Rios off that list. They're NOT taking his contract. The Sox might be able to give Teahen to the pirates for virtually nothing and remove some of the salary commitment to him. Otherwise, the Pirates can find better options if they're willing to give up a player or two.

The White Sox sign uber-talented DOUG DAVIS!!!
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 09:18 AM) Uh, yeah, because it shows the Sox signed Davis and thought "he might pitch for us at some point after we've thrown in the towel". Important addition.

Guillen/KW at least "PR spinning" they want Buehrle back nex
Depends on what the team is doing. If we're holding salary in the $120 million range, bringing back M-56 makes sense. If we're going to cut back to the $100 million range, there's probably no room.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 01:02 AM) Am I the only one wanting to keep Quentin around if we're gonna contend this year? I want Viciedo up as much as the next guy but there is always a chance he comes and struggles too. Of course we want Quentin aroudn if we're contending this year (or Hell, next year). We're just a 2 game losing streak from pulling the plug on this year, and he's a guy other teams would want.

LOL. Duffman is thrusting in the direction of the problem.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 05:18 AM) Phil Rogers is on crack cocaine. Zambrano, Marmol and especially Aramis Ramirez to the Tigers, at least some of that is logical. The Cubs wantingback Brandon Inge, not even Hendry is THAT dumb. It's almost as logical as the Yankees giving the Sox Curtis Granderson for Rios and Danks. Zambrano does fit the "High impact arm" description that we heard the Tigers looking for.

7/18 GT: Sox @ Royals, 7:10pm
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 10:32 PM) Lester was always the example in front of Danks, but you'd have to argue that Lester's on a whole different level...certainly the last season or two. He signed well before FA though.

QUOTE (kapzk @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 10:31 PM) Can't see a big pay day for Danks especially after a bad season thus far. Maybe down the road yeah but no way is he getting a 15 million dollar deal after this year's performance, which is why he would probably wait out after next and just a sign a one yr arbritration contract. I can't really think of any other players that have similar cases to Danks to really say wat type of contract can be expected. The last comparable was probably John lackey, and he wasn't a lefty.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 10:24 PM) Danks is going to get paid big-time, and it won't be anything close to $9-10 million for a long-term deal. I wonder what would happen if you offered him $10 mil a year but made it for like 12 years.
