2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 10:03 AM) Edwin Jackson would look really good at the front of their rotation! Scary thing is...I'm not quite sure which guy he'd actually bump from their rotation. They have 4 guys with an ERA of 4.04 or below, Jackson comes in at 3.97 (albiet, AL/NL switch noted there). The only guy in teh Pirates rotation with a losing record is Maholm, who comes in with an ERA of 3.04. They have a couple guys who haven't given them enough innings quite yet, I'd assume there was an injury or two, but swapping out one of their starters and replacing them with Jackson might be almost a wash, unless they lose a starter to injury or someone blows up from their staff.

Probably some sort of sticky biologically produced substance at least.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 09:34 AM) Someone may have mentioned this before, but the Pirates may be buyers this year. I wonder if with it being so long since they were in contention that they may overpay for some players. I know the Sox may not be buyers or sellers, but they could be an interesting trade partner. I had the same reaction last time it was brought up...if the Pirates legitimately overpay for anyone, their GM ought to be fired. Even after bringing them into a pennant race. They can be buyers, but they need to be bottom of the barrel buyers. They have a $50 million total team salary. One NL Central pennant doesn't rebuild that franchise; 5+ years of winning might. They can't give away someone who in 2 or 3 years will turn into one of the league's top prospects, they can't give away someone who will be an average MLB player for 4-5 years at low cost. They need those guys desperatelyl.

Not very likely. Probably can't read it through all the chicken fat.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 09:26 AM) Selig will surely make the fine for his buddy JR be surrendering either Hanley, LoMo or Josh Johnson for compensatory damages. Wonder if this might be one of those things that gets done behind closed doors.

Sox fielding calls for Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 09:51 PM) Or a completely different situation entirely. Tougher hitters, more pressure, etc. The DBacks are 7 games over and 3.5 games behind the Giants. Tougher hitters in teh AL I'll grant. More pennant-race pressure? No.

WTF are we waiting for ? Call up Viciedo !
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 12:13 AM) Seriously, are the Sox the worst team in baseball at tinkering? They add Manny last year? Great move, Sox. He was washed up. Why the refusal to tweak the team? Seriously, what are they afraid of in bringing up Dayan? How dumb a decision to move him off third if they were committed to Juan in left and CQ in right? The master plan was another full year of Dayan in the minors? I guess that's the master plan. "Worst team in baseball at tinkering" "Refusal to tweak the team". -Phrases that should never be attached to Kenny Williams.

Sox fielding calls for Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 09:35 PM) Don't take what I said out of context. I didn't say "watch Edwinmania take over the world and prove Kenny was right all along." I said Edwin's stuff will play better in the postseason, meaning when it's 52 and chilly and he's running 95 mph in on your hands, he could be a dangerous SP to ride... And I said should that happen, the trade might have proven worth it. Of course, I know many of you believe Hudson would have taken the same path with us as he has with Arizona. I don't. Then that is a decent indictment of our coaching staff.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 07:54 PM) Has he managed/coached anywhere? Little League maybe? Sounds like another Reinsdorf cronie hire. No experience, but he was a favorite of JR and he'll work cheap. He'd come in with less experience than Ozzie came in with. I think he has managed little league.

Sox fielding calls for Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 07:34 PM) One of the best fielding, best hitting SS in all of baseball who is signed to a team friendly contract for another 4 years and has only gotten better each year he's been in the bigs, yeah we better dump on the first team that offers us a bag of balls. Hate to say it, but his contract is fair, not team friendly any more. Wouldn't deal him for anything of low value, but i'd wouldn't say no if someone offered me the right price for a quasi-all star.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 05:14 PM) i haven' t been following it. too busy lately. sounds pretty good though. Yeah, if this had broken in the US it would be probably the biggest media scandal ever here. It still is mostly in England, mostly in 1 paper, but it's getting bigger by the hour. And if US laws were broken, as I noted, that pretty much compels the FBI to get involved.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 05:07 PM) my oh my. will Rupert go to jail? he should, at least, be sued. The UK has first dibs, frankly. Does this mean you haven't been following? The buyoffs of police? Hacking thousands of people's voice mail/cell accounts, including celebrities, the former PM, hacking into the voice mail account of a missing teenage girl then deleting voice mails so that the account wouldn't fill up and making her parents think that the girl was still alive because she was accessing her voice mail account?

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 04:58 PM) yes i know who it is. why are they hacking celebrity cell phones? The same reason why they hacked into thousands of people's cell phones in England. For news scoops. Money. The big thing here is probably that if a celebrity was hacked by newscorp on U.S. soil, then that not only justifies an extensive FBI investigation, it pretty much compels it. And somehow, it seems pretty unlikely that the "News of the World" was the only group in Murdoch's empire doing this.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 03:46 PM) And the bunt didnt force Valverde to throw strikes, just doesnt make sense. He actually threw the perfect pitches to prevent the bunt, good hard fastballs with some elevation. Gordon popped the first one up because it was in on his hands then chopped at the 2nd one and missed.

That worked about as well as the bunt, but the bunt made sure Lillibridge never had a chance to run.

Sox versus Tigers Game thread July 17
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 03:44 PM) Becks can't bunt. What a joke. I'm just saying I can't imagine a scenario in which we win all 3 in Detroit. Not this year. I do agree with you guys, but the key to our season has been the home disasters. When we look back at the season, we wouldn't say that it was games like this that cost the season, you're right, we'd say that it was the bad performances at home against the Twins/Royals, the awful start, etc. We still have a shot to come back from that though, but we can't give up games like this.
