  1. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 10:57 AM) This was just stupid. Move along now. As are your statements about how it's impossible to figure out in advance whether this program will save people money or not.
  2. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 10:54 AM) Actually no, theres one option for a decision, as both are reflected on the same option...MONEY. To think otherwise is foolish. Thankfully, money cannot be counted or added or subtracted. Because otherwise, people would do those types of calculations and produce estimates about future behavior.
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 10:52 AM) I was more thinking of merging all "dunn sucks!" threads into one thread. Every time we do that, someone decides that there aren't enough threads to state how bad player x is.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 10:44 AM) We need catch-alls for them, maybe a safe zone for hyperbolic ranting on KW, Ozzie, Dunn, Rios, Pierre, Peavy etc. Somewhere to blow off steam that keeps it out of discussion threads. We actually tried this a few years ago. It was something of an Epic Fail, IIRC.
  5. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 10:21 AM) We're in the middle of what I think everyone can agree has been a pretty disappointing season thus far, regardless if you're pessimistic or optimistic about how it will end. I hope there isn't an overreaction to the negativity that the play on the field is producing. I feel like we wind up with ~ 1 of these threads a year, every season, no matter how the team is doing.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 09:51 AM) LOL, I checked out a Flyers message board. The first thread was a poll:"Still a Flyers fan?" Only 48.94% were a definite yes. I think the correct response is ... "Philadelphia."
  7. The raft is wearing #14...
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 09:39 AM) Ideally, you'd just boot Teahen off the roster and use Milledge or DeAza to give you a more potent bench, but that's never going to happen. I agree that Lillibridge is our best defensively outfielder, at least this season. Rios COULD be better, but he's been inconsistent compared to what we've seen out of him in the past...especially with taking bad routes to the ball. Morel has weathered all those early-season errors and apparently has earned a bit of Ozzie's respect. The actual problem with booting Teahen is that "the guy who backs up the corner spots" is actually a useful role. You can pull Konerko in the 7th inning of a blowout or pull Konerko in the 8th inning if you need speed on the basepaths, but you can't do that if Milledge/De Aza is on your bench and Dunn is the DH. Teahen is actually a useful cog, he just is playing too much, particularly at 3b (I can almost say he cost us the game on Monday. It's a stretch but it's not dishonest. Cost us 2 runs directly and worked Gavin over for 10+ pitches because he couldn't get an out Morel or Vizquel would have gotten) I'd love to believe Morel has earned Ozzie's respect, but we faced 2 RHP in a row earlier this week, and of course, Morel got benched for both those games. Right after he was a key guy in winning the game before it. He then came back and got the GW RBI in the next game.
  9. Well, someone else asked a parking question so I'll do mine also. Soldier Field. Best way to get in? Buying a parking pass in advance is $51. I'd actually do that but I wish the gates opened more than 4 hours before event time so that I could head out into the city. Staying at a Hotel near Michigan City, so other option is the South Shore, but would probably have to wait about 2 hours for the late night train if I did that. Any other options I'm missing? Also...best lot to go for (in order to get out of the city post-event heading South towards the Ryan)
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 09:31 AM) Unfortunately, my feeling is that Ozzie believes Pierre has to be in there every game to get a rhythm established and get hot again offensively. You might see Vizquel and Lillibridge taking more time from Beckham/Morel/Dunn/Rios, but probably not at the expense of playing time for Juan YET. I really don't think Lillibridge is going to take IF playing time. Not only because Vizquel is there...but because he's been so bloody good in the OF that we're going to keep that division. Teahen will cover the corners occasionally and piss me off constantly when Ozzie benches Morel for him because Morel is a righty, Vizquel will cover up the middle IF, and Lillibridge gets the whole OF. With the lack of any other true backup OF on this team, putting the Stealth Elf in that role actually is quite sensible. No need to blow his knee out while playing the IF or get him thinking about other positions.
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 09:27 AM) I said "may" be looking at an all-star appearance. If he has two more great starts, and is 11-5 with an ERA around 3.30, then he could be an all-star. The thought that the Diamondbacks have their obligatory all-star in Upton, and nobody else can make it, is a little premature. Not what I meant. Hudson would be an all-star if the D-Backs had no one who was better. Hudson's numbers are not and will not be good enough for an all-star bid even if he throws 2 straight shutouts. His numbers might have put him there if the D-Backs had no one else who is better. They have several guys who are more deserving all-stars than Hudson, meaning that Hudson needs to get there on the strength of his numbers. His numbers aren't that strong.
  12. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 09:23 AM) So, it's OK to say those things? Will you be saying them 19 times consecutively or will you be pausing to actually elaborate on them?
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 09:22 AM) Like pension plans for example... Are you kidding me? In both the pension plan case and the McKinsey case, we took issue with the actual results/conclusions/data in the study. This is an entirely reasonable thing to do. The post I'm going after there does none of those things and pretty much pretends that we have no ability to evaluate anything.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 09:20 AM) That's what I thought, because no one else said anything, but I sure don't remember the latest in radars taking anyone down. I bet I can google this and find a military project to do just that.
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 09:18 AM) I would like to remind you the Diamondbacks are in 1st place, the all-star game is in Phoenix, and Hudson has 9 wins. Now, while agree that win totals for starting pitchers has been reduced to almost pointlessness, I'll throw in he has 12 quality starts out of 16 starts. Hudson also has the #26 ERA in the NL among starters. There are 7 starters in the NL who have 8+ wins and an ERA under 3. Hell, Hudson's teammate, Ian Kennedy, has 8 wins, 2 losses, and a 2.91 ERA.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 09:18 AM) Wait, radars? LOL, did spellechecker replace tasers with Radars? That's solid.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 09:17 AM) Crazy thing is, futures recovered a decent amount from the lows and finished down about 14 cent/gal. Overnight prices at the station I usually go to dropped 9 cents since yesterday morning at the same time. No price changes here that I saw. Of course, we lost power during another tornado warning last night and half the roads were blocked/flooded, that might have had something to do with it too.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 09:14 AM) I would doubt there's anybody on this board who has NEVER once said anything negative about Ozzie as a manager. With KW, he has significantly fewer detractors but certainly more than any previous season...and it reached a crescendo in May. The problem is not that people are saying bad, mean things about Ozzie, KW, Dunn, whatever. It's that people feel the need to pile on and on and on, and that people never want to engage, discuss, or back things up...just yell louder.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 09:08 AM) Rizzo's their manager now? Never mind, the article in my printed newspaper this morning said so but they've since named an interim.
  20. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 09:08 AM) Not to mention Sefalosha is one of the better 2 guard defenders in the league. Butler is more of a 3. Your right about his scoring ability though. The Bulls routinely used Sefalosha at the 3 when they had him and he was effective defensively there. And that was with an empty seat as a head coach.
  21. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 10:57 PM) How about Jackson? Year older, better numbers, but still not spectacular. Without having seen these guys more it's hard to project just fromt hese numbers.
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 10:28 PM) Hey look, another quality start for Hudson. 3.58 ERA. He may be looking at an all-star appearance. Justin Upton would like to remind you that the D-Backs have their guaranteed spot on the roster already filled.
  23. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 10:57 PM) Any chance they throw money at Pujols? If they do, any chance he goes? (I know the answer to both, although more players should give Seattle a chance. It's a beautiful city.) Justin Smoak says "That's my spot".
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 08:53 AM) Loved the draft last night. Shumpert went 17, Butler gets a first round guarantee (great story, great defender), and the two Illini lazy guys don't get picked. As for Butler, he's a great defender who's a solid shooter but can't create his own shot. He scored a ton of points at Marquette by getting to the FT line. He's probably below level quick-wise for the 2 guard in the NBA, but he's good enough defensively to survive in the league. Sounds a bit like Sefalosha with a better shot?
