  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 05:50 PM) It got way the f*** out of control. Seriously, the NHL needs to think twice... if everytime the 'Nucks lose in the Stanley Cup Final this happens, how can you allow them to participate in the Stanley Cup Final? I know, that's a bit out there, but what the f***. This would happen in a lot of cities after championships if the police weren't prepared for it.
  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 05:47 PM) But resign? He's resigning because its too much of a distraction, and it's a distraction because of the over-the-top media obsession over it. If he did do anything involving and underaged girl he should resign. However, at present, that's just a vague Fox News report that deftly avoided implying that he actually did anything inappropriate with the underaged one. There certainly can be more out there, but at present that one appears weak. There's another thing going on here though, and that is that supposedly one of the reasons Pelosi was able to hold onto the Minority Leadership was that she ceeded some authority to a couple of up and comers in the Congress, at least to act as spokespeople, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz and Weiner. The Caucus was not going to allow him to continue being a major spokesperson for the party after this, which put the Minority Leader in a position of having to come down hard on him to retain control over the caucus.
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 05:48 PM) Awesomeness. Terrible policy, glad to have it gone. Still has to pass the House, FWIW. But that's an overwhelming vote in this Senate.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 05:32 PM) Hey Michael Moore, I thought there was no crime in Canada Just no guns.
  5. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 05:18 PM) Yeah, not a big deal though. He's upholding the outstanding virtues and ethics of a Congressional Democrat. I therefore infer, especially since neither immediately resigned, that illegal payments to your mistress out of campaign funds and visiting prostitutes are the virtues and ethics of a Congressional Republican.
  6. Holy Hell. I would have thought a nuclear meltdown was more likely than this. This will mostly shut down the domestic ethanol industry but will probably put a decent dent in grain prices.
  7. Robin Ventura dropped by an ESPN podcast today.
  8. I don't think this one will play well.
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 04:36 PM) Great. So Morel's offensive ceiling is that of Jorge Cantu. That better be some damn good defense at 3B. Adrian Beltre has a .781 OPS right now. Adrian Beltre is performing like Jorge Cantu with the bat.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 04:34 PM) Today 5.5 out and 5.5 out on July 31st are two completely different things, and you know it. 5.5 out on July 31 is still in the race though. Anyway, I guess I'll just start hoping that DV is up before July 4. I was in the crowd for his first career HR last year, might as well see him set off some more fireworks this year.
  11. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 04:31 PM) With no power and no plate discipline? Unless he's going to smack 50 doubles a year, that's not happening. He doesn't have no power. He'll be a 10-15 HR a year guy who might occasionally hit 20+ once he gets there, and he's already on the way. It's the exact development path he took in the minors. Struggled for a month, then started getting tons of hits, then started hitting with more authority.
  12. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 04:24 PM) That's a big difference from 50 games over. Considering how bad the Royals, Tigers (sans '06) and Indians (sans '07) have been, eight games over is nothing to get loud about. The Tigers are 366-351 since the end of the 2006 World Series that they reached. Considering how "Bad" they've been?
  13. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 04:23 PM) What's your definition of solid? I think he's a mid .700's OPS 3b once he fully develops/adapts, and may cross .800 a couple times given the park he's playing in.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 04:18 PM) We are 5.5 out. We are still "contending". I don't know what KW does if we get close to the deadline and we're both 6 out and still under .500. Yes, we're still technically in the race, but we're playing below .500 ball, and that's got to be close to the breaking point for this salary level.
  15. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 04:19 PM) Brent Morel has no offensive tools. That's something you can pinpoint right away. Brent Morel will be a solid offensive contributor for this club for the next half decade +.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 04:15 PM) And I don't care about contact rate if you're taking preventive swings early in the count and hitting 20 hoppers to the second baseman. He's hitting .292 doing that since May 1.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 04:12 PM) Morel? Really? He's not that much different than Brian Anderson. Yeah, they'll go on an occasional singles binge. But ultimately they don't contribute much. I don't think there's any point in his career where Anderson was hitting .250+.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 04:11 PM) Guys like Alexei Ramirez, Carlos Quentin, Brent Lillibridge, and Brent Morel don't count or something? Paul Konerko too.
  19. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 04:08 PM) If we're planning on contending, I don't see Danks being moved until the middle of next season at the earliest, when we're not contending. Jackson, he gawn! Now that we're suddenly back to 5 games below .500, "Planning on Contending" is becoming at best borderline.
  20. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 04:07 PM) GB had no hitch before Walker! Really? It sure seemed like he had it when he came up.
  21. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 03:57 PM) Oh, so merely a 97 win seasonal pace. But we're starting from a deep, deep hole. If we play .594 ball the rest of the year, we win 87 games. That's borderline, iffy, maybe making the playoffs if no other team in the Central gets hot.
  22. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 03:54 PM) It's kind of unbelievable that a single 0-2 stretch against a division rival, on the heels of this team playing .630 ball for 35 games, has people reeling this much. Drops to .594 ball if you include just those 2 games.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 03:44 PM) Farmer said during the game today that he had talked to Walker, and Walker said he is trying to break Gordo of exactly that hitch in his swing. 2k5 is correct, this was stated today.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 03:44 PM) Wait, the Twins are going to be out of it and tearing their team apart? This was the worst lineup I've ever seen from a Twins team. As long as they still have their pitching, pitch calling, and the name Twins on their jersey, they'll kick our ass. And I don't get why people think the Tigers are such an average team. They have a true ace and a very dangerous offense. If rumors are true and they trade some of their prospects for another starting pitcher, I think they could easily get to 90 wins. Nishioka played today. Joe Mauer is returning on the morrow. Joe Nathan is currently on a rehab stint. The guns are reloading.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 03:32 PM) The only good thing to say is that it's easier to find hitting than good starting pitching. The problem is that we have to replace Buehrle, Danks and Jackson somehow. God help Sale and Peavy. Humber Helps, and we haven't lost Danks yet...so it's still plausible that if he is gotten rid of, the return could involve pitching.
