  1. QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 10:59 AM) They are OK looking per their facebook profile, how is this guy not fired? It's pretty much equal to a racist comment and we know he would've been fired for that Only 20 states and DC actually outlaw discriminating against homosexuals. Minnesota is one of those 20 states, but that should tell you about how homosexual rights sit in this country.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 09:34 AM) I worked on the CBOE floor then. Snopes is wrong. The crowd I worked in was literally 20 feet away from the UAL crowd. At least personally, I'm still going to say "I don't know" on that one, because every official report disagrees with you and includes explanations that I will never understand, while there are a lot of rumor-type stories from people like you that disagree with the official reports.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 09:33 AM) I also really think most of the Dem's calls for ouster centered in that his own party people didn't really like or respect the guy. See my post above. It wasn't that they didn't like him, it's that he was rapidly working his way into the actual leadership because he was solid in front of the cameras, and everyone who was backing him was suddenly in a very weakened position within the caucus.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 09:30 AM) They pretty much did exactly that before 9-11. The OCC just threw the trump card on them by cancelling all of the trades. That's always one of those things thats been weirdly rumored but never really spelled out in specifics in anything I've read. Snopes, for example, calls it false.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 10:31 PM) I think disgraced Congressman would be more accurate. Technically once you have been sworn in as a Congressperson you are able to keep the title for your entire life. It is accurate to refer to a former Congressman as "Congressman Foley" or "Congressman Weiner" regardless of the circumstances. Similarly, once they receive a promotion, they can accurately be referred to by that title. Once they have become a committee chairperson, you can refer to the person as "Chairman/Chairwoman" 20 years later. This continues up the chain..."President Carter..." etc.
  6. QUOTE (Disco72 @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 08:20 AM) If only he'd successfully done that with the Sox, think of how many fewer things we'd have to complain about (the return on the trade with the Yankess, no Pierre...) Not possible. Swisher's brain can't handle leading off. That was why he struggled so much in 2008 and why it was a mistake to trade him away.
  7. Skanberg FTW.
  8. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 10:06 PM) How was it in 2005 after the Sox won? There was a good crowd outside te ballpark but not a ton of violence or damage. I'm sure there were arrests but not many.
  9. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 09:38 PM) it's not even worth that much. The market is always right dude. Otherwise we wouldn't set so many of our policies based on what it says it wants.
  10. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 09:38 PM) Let's get him in the system again. Couldn't hurt. Hell, we promoted Nevin Griffith for some crazy reason. That says plenty about our farmhand hurlers. Don't forget, it's going to be up to him to sign where he thinks he has the best shot, based on the style of the system.
  11. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 09:34 PM) Can't argue with that. If you give Ozzie a JP type of player, he's going to play him more than any of us want I suppose. Even when just focusing on Teahen, the fact is, Viciedo isn't going to replace our current infield or Dh, which is where Teahen is being used. Only shot is 3b but his defense can't hold there and we've moved him away from it twice in 2 years.
  12. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 09:26 PM) Yes, but don't you think Teahen's presence is also a major issue? He's even more redundant than Juan if DV is on the 25 man. Of course, it's almost moot, 'cause Teahen is nearly as unmovable as Rios or Dunn. If Teahen were movable in any way, letting JP stay on the roster, "sensitivity issues" would be irrelevant. I really hope they wouldn't call up Viciedo to sit on the bench like last year again. I so hope they wouldn't do that.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 08:33 PM) If the Rays or Mets knew that Kazmir was a stoner and didn't disclose that when trading him, there is a huge issue there. I think there may be some truth to this story, just not all true. I don't think the rays were mad that the mets didn't tell them. Otherwise, teams do give guys physicals before they approve deals.
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 07:25 PM) Didn't see the game and I am sure this was discussed somewhere, but why no Lillibridge? Righties can't hit righties.
  15. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 07:45 PM) Thought of the day: Restaurant name aside... What is truly a dick's last resort? Congressman?
  16. Are you kidding caulfield? Morels glove has been very good and improving.
  17. QUOTE (lord chas @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 08:59 PM) can anyone enlighten me why viciedo is not being called up? is it to do with options or his contract? I can throw his contract in too. If the can wait until perhaps august or sept, that might still buy them another year before he becomes a free agent. But yeah, that's not why. It's because of Pierre.
  18. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 06:47 PM) That's the thing. They will stay in it for quite some time. It's what they do, just enough to lose but also just enough that everyone keeps their jobs. I really don't think that'll happen this year. I think 2nd place = a management overhaul. That's what "all in" meant to me more than anything else.
  19. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 06:31 PM) Which of the Ten Commandments mentions homosexuality? Whichever one also requires that sinkers on the outside half must be pulled by Right handed hitters, I believe.
  20. It's hard to tell what question he was answering but the answer did involve the phrase "Move somebody up."
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 05:54 PM) David Tyree, piece of garbage and former NFL WR: "anarchy" if gay marriage is legalized I'm not sure if I'd care about this if it was 27 teams in MLB.
  22. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 06:22 PM) Oh I agree that the coverage has been a little much, but it's a "juicy" story. Just like Edwards or Spitzer. And I DO think he should resign for, at the very least, absolute incompetence. He should not have the authority and power that comes with being a member of Congress is he's that f***ing stupid. Did he really think that stuff would not come out eventually? Has he not paid attention the last 10 years? I'd bet you that 5% of the Congresspeople who cheat on their spouses wind up being exposed. Or at least that it's closer to 5% than 75%.
  23. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 06:18 PM) Ditto killing someone and covering it up. Wait, wha? Edit: Lemme Guess, this is going to turn out to be kicking the corpse of Ted Kennedy, isn't it?
  24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 06:12 PM) I don't recall something this violent though in any sport. I'm not sure about quite "This" violent any time recently...because usually the police here break out the tear gas first. 1992 Chicago Bulls was a mess. Cars overturned and burning on Rush st.
  25. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 06:04 PM) when was the last riot prior to this? Denver in 01? I'm sure Rock will correct me but I thought that there were several at Ohio State a few years after that. Indiana got tear gassed in 2002 after losing in the NCAA BBall championships (I was in my room). Purdue had a tear gassing event after a football game the year before that which caught a few of my friends. The Lakers fans were burning stuff in the streets after their 09 win, but no one was hurt. I'm still amazed that the crowd walked right past a Staples and no one yelled anything about breaking up the "Staples Center". If we're talking about people getting hurt, the start of this season at the Giants v. Dodgers game wasn't pleasant.
