U.S. launches airstrikes on Libya
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 04:50 PM) That makes sense with the other war he is waging in "secret". If you wanted to you could probably get away with defending that one under the Afghanistan AUMF.

U.S. launches airstrikes on Libya
Obama administration offers a fairly unique defense...the Libya campaign is too small to count. If Congress were to go along with that, it'd be a dramatic expansion of Presidential war powers.

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 04:41 PM) Let's face it, I think it's pretty safe to have misgivings about how clean Peavy is. This is one case where I can't offer a defense. It's long been my position that you can't trust anyone in MLB other than Frank Thomas, so I'm not going to try here. That at least fits a pattern.

The Democrat Thread
Again, it's from the New Republic, so clearly they're making this up. After all, real reporters these days transcribe press releases, they don't make additional calls.

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 04:35 PM) I assume you mean when he supposedly tried to pitch through the groin injury. I never said a word about that. I'm just tired of the injuries. No, we mean when he offers to go to the bullpen. AKA this thread. Where people went ballistic.

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 04:34 PM) The guy has had what, 4 or 5 injuries now in the past three seasons? It's time to look at this objectively. He's injury prone. Perhaps there's an underlying reason. Maybe he was a steroid guy, who knows? He suddenly started getting hurt in various ways. If this were Mark Prior, we'd all be thinking the same thing. And if he's such a "competitor" as everyone loves to preach, he'd be able to find a much greater competitive edge with PEDs. And hasn't he also lost velocity over the years? There's a tie-link between about 3 of those injuries though. First, the ankle running to first. While rehab starting, ball off the elbow. Mechanics screwed up...shoulder pops. Spends offseason rehabbing, takes some time doing so, had to work through scar tissue, etc. You take out that one ankle injury and it might well be that no one is thinking he's injury prone.

Hawk's Irrational Dream Team
QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 04:30 PM) "I tell you what Stone Pony, the head of Ted Williams could hit .300 today." Sadly...I'm not sure that's wrong.

QUOTE (MAX @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 04:28 PM) Don't forget about Kubel. Is this game going to happen tonight, or are we looking at another rainout? 50% chance of rain at gametime, declining as the night goes on.

2011 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 04:28 PM) Well, more like a year and six weeks. '09 was basically wiped out. He played in 133 games last year (132 starts). From '05 through '08 he started 161, 153, 159 and 160 games. If you're gonna tell me he wasn't hurt last year I'm gonna come back and hit you with that .749 OPS he put up for the season.

2011 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 04:16 PM) It's hard to believe he's only 27. If he keeps this up all year (no reason he shouldn't, as talent has never been an issue), there most definitely will be a team(s) out there willing to sign a superstar SS in his prime to a similar deal. They won't care about one injury plagued year. It's at least 2 injury plagued years.

2011 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 04:06 PM) Jeff Passan thinks he'll get a Carl Crawford-like deal. I certainly wouldn't offer him that kind of money (without a heckuva insurance plan at least)...but I wouldn't put it past some GM's.

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 04:05 PM) Not get injured? Not get injured constantly? Either of those work. So unless you want to blame God, all of this rests on Peavy and his body. So, either you're blaming Jake Peavy for not sitting down and having a good talking to his body (my knees, for example, might just be learning their lesson now!) or you're just angry at a guy for things he can't control

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 04:00 PM) It's all squarely on Peavy. He's the only one that can fix it. Really? What should he do at this point? Pitch through injuries? Not pitch through injuries? Retire?

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 04:00 PM) When you have to go to a 6 man rotation and have fewer guys in the bullpen, then it disrupts your team (especially given the lack of depth in our pen). The biggest disappointment about Peavy's inability to stay healthy this year is we can't trade Jackson if we want to. We're that desperate for peanuts?

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:55 PM) Hey, if we can not play the Twins right now, by all means, let it happen. So that instead we play them when Mauer, Morneau, Thome, and Nathan have returned from the Dl.

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:50 PM) With Austin Jackson picking it up and Boesch adding some punch, that lineup is quite scary. They're one trade away from being in a great position to win the AL Central. I thought Phil Coke had been horrible, but was shocked to see how good his ERA is. In other words...there's still a good number of reasons to look at that team and think they're "April Cleveland-ing" it right now.

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:47 PM) Can we trade for Jhonny Peralta? Jhesus, he has an .860 OPS for the year. No wonder the Tigers have taken over first.

Sox must find consistant closer
BTW, after all the pitches he threw over the weekend, the extra offday yesterday probably was a good thing for Sergio.

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:33 PM) Jump to conclusions that he's no longer of the same caliber he was? That people here are regularly arguing otherwise?
-
Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:31 PM) And to play devil's advocate, it drives some people crazy that there are posters that still view him as the NL Cy Young caliber pitcher before injuries and pitching in the Grand Canyon in a different era. Someone said something about jumps to conclusions?
-
Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:20 PM) Same as Peavy's injury concerns, we aren't going anywhere. And neither is Jake Peavy.

U.S. launches airstrikes on Libya
NATO begins privately admitting that it hasn't learned the lessons of World War 2. Some other good stuff in there about how division within the opposition has prevented the formation of a unified military opposition.
