Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:18 PM) LOL, I love this. Once people have legitimate things to complain about and there's no defending it, it's suddenly the complaining posters that are targeted. Because we're pretty darn tired of them.

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:14 PM) I'm tired of hearing from him, period. Shut the f*** up and pitch, or go away. It's been all talk and no results with this guy since we traded for him two years ago. There's been a Helluva lot more talk from the people complaining about him than there has been from him.

Aaron Poreda Designated for Assignment
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 02:46 PM) Weren't they all #1 draft picks? All pitchers. Maybe McCullough was a #2? Doesn't seem ludicrous at all. They were all #1 draft picks. However, 2 of them didn't have the talent to be. Broadway and McCullough should not have been first round picks. Poreda still is a lefty with a big fastball, which makes you a first round pick.

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 02:51 PM) The point that if we make adjustments to the rotation, and more importantly, the pen to accomodate Peavy again just to have him get hurt and mess up the rotation is why I think we're better off without him this year (since it doesn't seem like he'll be 100% again). I was excited that maybe Peavy turned a corner with that great Indians start, but it seemed that game just took a lot out of him as his fastball was way down after it. I'd much rather go with the 5 man rotation we have and try and get another righty into the pen. And for the record, I think that a less than 100% Peavy would be our 6th best starting pitcher. How on Earth would moving Peavy to the pen necessitate adjustments to the pen? taking away valuable innings from Lucas Harrell or Brian Bruney?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 02:55 PM) This. Honestly, the team would probably be better focused if he'd just go away. Seriously?

U.S. launches airstrikes on Libya
Well, considering that the Libyan operation will seemingly take years unless we give up, this actually has a chance of getting decided before the big Court before that operation ends.

The Juan Pierre Debacle
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 02:16 PM) I don't think Juan would clear waivers. There are a handful of teams that could use him...especially as a 4th OFer. Juan Pierre would clear waivers because any team that claimed him would be on the hook for his full remaining contract for this season (something about $5 million for the next 3 months). The White Sox at least have the Dodgers helping pay for a portion of his salary this year.

The Democrat Thread
Of course, this post includes the word "Blog" in the link, so the power of that word to guarantee that anything written under it is wrong undermines the fact that it's from the Washington Post.

Aaron Poreda Designated for Assignment
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 02:07 PM) Poreda, Broadway, McCullough. That's quite a Hat Trick. Wonder if the same Scouting personnel pulled the trigger on all three?? It's ludicrous to lump those 3 together.

Kyle McCulloch dealt to Cincy for cash
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 01:58 PM) I think this shows how badly we need cash right now... Check the date on the first post.

WTF are we waiting for ? Call up Viciedo !
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) That theory only really works if the high OBP guy leading off is fast. Not really, it puts guys on base in front of the power guys no matter what.

The Juan Pierre Debacle
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 01:33 PM) Cause people didn't know that he was bad defensively. He also was supposed to be a lefty masher, which is something we've lacked lately from our outfielders. Actually, didn't people know he was pretty bad defensively? His career OF UZR is -21, and that's while never having been a full time starter.

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 01:42 PM) This is the thing that drives me crazy about Jake Peavy. He is never healthy and, thus, causes all of this discussion to become necessary. Depends on your definition of "Necessary".

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 09:24 AM) I'm worried about SVG going on radio yesterday and saying we want to re-sign J-Rich though. Just seemed as if he has nothing left in the tank, and I think we need to get younger overall as a group going forward. Well in that case I'll stop thinking that he's an MLE candidate for the Bulls.

2011-2012 OFFICIAL NBA LOCKOUT thread
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 09:19 AM) Yeah I've got no doubts that the NBA is probably on the owners side here (otherwise contraction would be a big possibility). They definitely want a hard cap and probably the ability to release players from overpriced contracts as you can do in the NFL (so we don't have situations such as Jerome James' and Eddy Curry's occurring again). As I've said though, the players aren't going to want to take those sort of things away. They are pretty happy with the system the way it is now for the most part I would have thought. It comes down to the argument of having a hard cap as the NHL's introduced, or allowing your bigger market teams to spend over the cap and pay a luxury tax if they wish, but that has caused the issues with the likes of Melo, Lebron, Bosh etc. going to whichever team they want in Free Agency. The big issue here is that the current system screws a majority of the owners in favor of the few fortunate owners who happen to be in the largest market or have a good enough party scene. That means that it's not just the players versus the owners, what's best for the league isn't best for all of the owners.
