2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (danman31 @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 11:41 PM) Serge Ibaka's first round free throw line dunk was the best of the night. He was actually behind the line. I don't know if anyone has actually done that. The famous free throw line dunks were just inside or on the line. Yeah he started behind where the last 2 took off, but he also has a few inches on them, so he didn't need to be up as high to reach the rim.

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 04:47 PM) I don't know who "Jamie" is, but why was MB full of s***? He's said all along, he might retire after this contract, or he might not. -Jamie and Mark Buehrle.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 04:13 PM) Yup, just like the Tea Party - who uses national funds to roll in the brownshirts. Right. Gotta make sure the "FREE" health care and "FREE" retirements continue. (Which, by the way, there's no easy answer here because these people aren't eligible for retirement like the private sector per se... so it's not as easy as turn it on and turn it off... but to ask to pay into the programs isn't too much to ask, either). Yeah, they used enormous amounts of funds to do that. Tens of millions worth of free advertising on newscorp, tens of millions from Koch energy, tens of millions from the Chamber of commerce. And anyway...pretending it's about the budget cuts is either 100% misinformed or 100% dishonest. As our Wisconsinian already said, the unions have already offered the Governor a deal worth the $120 million he needs to pay for his budget-busting taxcuts. The Governor has flat out rejected that deal. It's not about the retirement programs or paying for it, it's about dismantling the public sector unions.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 04:07 PM) It's as pure as the wind driven snow, ivory soap, busloads of "union soldiers" being bussed in, and Tim Kaine funneling in federal funds to get the DNC message out. We get it, everything's all right fight for what's right in Wisconsin! Just like the Tea Party.

Mark Buehrle talks about the future after 2011
QUOTE (maki @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 02:08 PM) if cliff lee is a 2, how many 1s are there in your ranking system, like 6? Cliff Lee put up an ERA of near 4 when he got to Texas last year. He had great numbers in Seattle...pitching in Seattle, a great pitcher's park. John Danks actually put up a higher WAR than Cliff Lee last year.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 12:59 PM) well, if they shut down the government i'll call them by their proper and glorious name of 'Democrats'. I'm willing to compromise here, Balta. And I'll start calling yours the Republic party when they shut down the government like they've been talking about for a year. Fair?

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 12:49 PM) So, the Democrat party in DC is threatening to shut down the government. I kind of hope they do. You still can't even call the party what it wants to be called, you have to make a grammatical error to call them something else.

Chris Sale Will Start the Season in the Bullpen
QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 12:10 PM) If the only thing your worried about is innings pitched, they will make it up in the AFL or winter ball. I'd be stunned if they sent Sale to the AFL or Winter ball this year. Whoever made that call would be crucified if he hurt his arm pitching in the offseason.

Chris Sale Will Start the Season in the Bullpen
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 12:00 PM) The difference being Strasburg was a starter and Sale was a reliever. Which has its positives and negatives...could have helped keep Sale's velocity up, but also we didn't get to see Sale's changeup very much, and that was the key pitch for the Stras.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 11:54 AM) From: Irvine, CA Explains it all. If he's from CA, then he ought to be praising a barbeque chicken pizza, or something with duck sausage and olives, something like that. (That duck sausage pizza was really good)

Chris Sale Will Start the Season in the Bullpen
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 11:50 AM) Prior was the same way before he became a punch line. Sale has some great stuff but he isn't in that neighborhood. I haven't seen his 3rd pitch enough...but I'll still say, last year he was throwing best raw LH fastball/slider I've seen since Liriano-06. Maybe better. Probably better control. If we're comparing him to Stras...average Pitch-FX velocity for Stras last year was 97.6, Sale was 95.9.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 11:26 AM) Waits for the MSM to comment on why the Wisconsin crowds are overwhelmingly white...............Hears the crickets......SHHHH....nothing to see here...... But he WEAC publishing the home addresses of the legislators will not cause confrontations or disruptions in their neighborhoods... Union goons at their finest..... If this was put to a vote up there I have to believe Walker would win with a 60% majority at least. Demographics, state of wisconsin: The Wisconsin NAACP is probably overwhelmingly white. And on your second point.

Chris Sale Will Start the Season in the Bullpen
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 10:32 AM) Does anybody think that maybe they want Sale to have some time with a ML training staff and a year or two of age to fill out that frame before upping his innings total? I'm sure they've come up with a baker's dozen justifications for it...but the "we want to win this year" is by far the most important one.

Chris Sale Will Start the Season in the Bullpen
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 08:42 AM) Chris Sale has no where near the stuff that Prior and Strausburg had at the same ages. Well, I'll half agree on Strasburg because Sale doesn't top 99...but the fact that he's a lefty and your 2 comps are righties changes the game.

Mark Buehrle talks about the future after 2011
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 08:30 AM) I'd almost be willing to bet you that he doesn't win 10 games in a Sox uniform this year. I'd take that bet and give odds.

Mark Buehrle talks about the future after 2011
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 08:22 AM) I think the AL Central has and will continue to figure him out. You can only fool people with junk for so long. IMO it's time for him to go before he turns awful. Every bit of baseball I've ever watched totally disagrees with you.

Chris Sale Will Start the Season in the Bullpen
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 03:26 AM) Soo..... 2008: 36 IP 2009: 89 IP 2010: 103 IP 2011: 65-70 IP? 2012: 170+ IP? Yeah, I can't see a reason to doubt that plan..... EDIT: And yes, I realize they won't allow Sale to go 170 IP if he is a reliever in 2011, and that is kind of my point. He will be behind where he could have been if he had continued to increase his innings every year by being a starter. You're missing a whole lot of innings. Both 2010 and 2009 he also pitched in the Cape Cod league, and got to ~160 innings in both seasons when you count both leagues.

Mark Buehrle talks about the future after 2011
If this team fails to win the Central this year, I'd expect M-56 will be allowed to walk and the team will go for a rebuilding effort. If the team wins, they're going to keep the band together for one more year.
