  1. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 03:16 PM) I understand that. So I guess "All-In" means we're completely going for it for 2 seasons, but after that we're going to suck for a while. I hope they spend more on the draft from 2013 onward so they can rebuild more quickly. I guess the rebuild is coming, they're just putting it off for a couple of years. I hope that they get a first round pick when Danks leaves, though, or that he's not in their plans for next season, and they have a viable replacement. Just another reason why Sale should be starting in AAA. You know the remarkable thing? The last time the Sox had a complete rebuilding project to do, they pulled it off in the course of 1 season, with basically no minor leagues to boot.
  2. Celtics F Marquis Daniels taken off court in a neckbrace after a fall.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 02:51 PM) $37 million still left on that mess of a deal. The Astros need to start playing him in CF. A few weeks out there and the Angels will jump at him.
  4. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 02:53 PM) If that is the case, then he should not be in KW's plans for next season. As a matter of fact, they should have traded him this offseason and started Sale in his place You remember how it was reported that KW came to JR at the end of last season and gave him 2 options...pull back, save a bit on salary, and legitimately rebuild, or go "all-in"? That was the decision. Go out and sign Dunn, Konerko, AJ and bullpen help, or let Konerko walk for draft picks, bring up Viciedo to DH/1b, put the rookies out in the bullpen, and trade away Danks and Jackson. Danks is still here because the White Sox expect to compete this season.
  5. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 02:29 PM) From a fan's perspective(my previous post was from this perspective as well) I'm arguing that if he stays healthy and continues his upward performance trend, he'd still get a $100 million dollar deal at age 30. Of course the health is a gigantic if. It matters if Danks wants to stay in Chicago or not. I can see where he would not want to sign though, because by all indications the Sox have 2011 and 2012 to win a WS and then the window slams shut. Because of this the Sox are in a bad predicament, with Danks hitting FA right when they are going to start getting old and having problems winning because of the poor farm system. They have to make a choice, do they want to go for it next season, or do they want to trade Danks after this season. If I was him, I wouldn't sign that either, I'd look at this team and want to leave after 2012, because they are probably going to suck for a while from 2013 onward. The key flaw is in the "if he stays healthy and continues his upwards performance trend". First of all, not many pitchers stay healthy for their first what, 8-9 seasons? Secondly, almost no pitchers keep doing at age 29-30 what they're doing at 26-27. We can pretend all we want that D1 has other options, but come on...really...he's 2 years away from a $100 million deal. The Sox offered him some guaranteed money a few years ago, and have probably upped their offer every single year. Once he passed on the first offer of security in exchange for a buyout of a FA year or two, it made sense to go for the big money, and that's exactly what he's doing.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 02:28 PM) Boozer doesn't factor in as much with the high double. Korver should, but they didn't do it when he was on the floor either. It was with either Brewer/Bogans/Watson back at the SG. They'll learn how to maneuver through that right quick. Boozer is a major help in that if they realize that getting the ball to him out of the double opens up the paint and prevents help from coming.
  7. Could be a way of getting lots of grounding calls on him.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 02:23 PM) The NBA is a copycat league, so expect Rose to start seeing those double teams until the Bulls figure out how to beat them. With a low post player like Boozer and a 3 point threat like Korver, double-teaming Rose ought to be suicide. Especially considering that double-teaming him on the outside is an invitation for him to blow right past both of the double-teaming defenders given that he's 3x as fast as any of them. Having another shooter wouldn't hurt that though.
  9. As long as they don't hand the Steelers another trophy they didn't earn, I won't complain about them.
  10. George W. Bush cancels planned trip to Switzerland after former Gitmo detainees raise possibility of filing war crimes charges against him in Geneva.
  11. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) People who stay on the same machine for 10 minutes. Usually coupled with checking their phone while on said machine, thus delaying their departure from the machine. Seconded and thirded for good measure.
  12. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 02:05 PM) I think this offseason a 4/52 extension would have been fair, $ 7 MM in '11, $12 MM in '12, $16 MM in '13, and $17 MM in '14. Given he stays healthy, He'll still hit FA at 30, while not incredibly young, still average for a ML player, and he'd have more time to prove he's an elite lefty, and probably he could get just as big of a deal then as he would in the 12-13 offseason, granted there is more opportunity to get hurt though. I think if they don't sign him sometime this season, he's gone this offseason. Who's going to be a FA next offseason anyway? Anyway...that would have been a fair extension, but if you're a player trying to maximize what you guarantee yourself, if you play through the next 2 seasons, you make about $18 million or so, and then you hit the market as a 28 year old and you land $100 million+. If you're trying to maximize your dollars, you don't sign 4/52.
  13. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 02:05 PM) I think this offseason a 4/52 extension would have been fair, $ 7 MM in '11, $12 MM in '12, $16 MM in '13, and $17 MM in '14. I think if they don't sign him sometime this season, he's gone this offseason. Who's going to be a FA next offseason anyway? On the White Sox? The big FA next offseason is Mark Buehrle. Other noteworthy names are Juan Pierre and Matt Thornton. If Carlos Quentin has a down season he becomes a DFA candidate. Edwin Jackson is also a FA.
  14. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 02:09 PM) Anthony Parker is probably the player they'll end up with IMO. Straight swap for Johnson maybe? No reason not to get that done and I think the salaries work since the Bulls are still slightly under the cap. I'd throw in my late-first-round pick as well if I had to.
  15. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 01:45 PM) 9 turnovers for drose, I hope after this game, the management finally had enough and decide to go out and get someone who can handle the ball at SG. You don't make a trade based on 1 loss on a bad night for one of the best players in the NBA. You make a trade because it's the right thing to do based on a consistent problem.
  16. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 01:50 PM) Did more research, at the time of their retirement, Carter and Brown were second or third in receptions and yards, I believe Carter was second in Touchdowns, and Brown was top 5. All the WR's are suffering now because of the combination of multiple HOF caliber WR's on the list and the more pass-heavy modern league, where more guys are beating their stats.
  17. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 01:39 PM) Any concerns about him having any additional pressure now that he's inked a nice deal? We all know about his early season struggles, and I just hope that when it happens again this year (which it most likely will, unfortunately) that he doesn't fold under additional heat because of the new deal... If "Moving to the U.S. as a defector and instantly getting $6 million guaranteed before going to your first training camp" wasn't too much pressure, it's hard to figure out how this would be.
  18. Tom Brady is the NFL's first ever unanimous MVP.
  19. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 01:34 PM) The fact that Tim Brown and Cris Carter didn't get in on their first try is also BS. When each of them retired they were second in most receiving categories behind Jerry Rice. That is an accomplishment in itself, Rice is on a completely different level than any other receiver. Really, there needs to be 1-2 more available slots.
  20. You all left.

  22. The fact that Andre Reed is not yet in the HOF continues to be BS.
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 04:22 PM) Pretty odd that in 2011 we still have a team in the NFL called the Redskins. Just pretend that they're named after the type of potato.
  24. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 5, 2011 -> 09:44 PM) On paper those are definitely the two elite teams coming into this season. I like what the O's have done as well this offseason but they're still far away from being a playoff contender. The Blue Jays on the other hand, I don't see improvement from at all. The Blue Jays got rid of Vernon Wells without ever having to pay any of h is $21 million seasons. I don't care if they lose more games last year, that's a big offseason win.
  25. QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 03:07 AM) Don't forget the Blue Jays set records for attendance in the early 90's. The city will support a winner. That was pre-strike though, in the same ballpark, which is now 20 years older.
