  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 5, 2011 -> 09:12 AM) The idea that he hasn't tried to extend John Danks is just mindboggling. There is a better chance that we pay off the national debt in the next week, than Kenny Williams hasn't tried multiple times to extend John. Considering the thread is titled "Sox have been trying to extend Danks for 2.5 years", that is moderately confusing.
  2. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Feb 5, 2011 -> 09:14 AM) Oh no, you brought up the name Luke Scott, now we are going to have 33 threads if the Sox should acquire him................. Well...the Sox sorta have a DH this year.
  3. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 07:14 PM) This, certainly. Personally, I like the way the money sets up for 2012. Assuming Buehrle is retired or a Cardinal in 2012, we gain 22 mill while losing he and Edwin, replacing one of them with Sale, making peanuts. There's also a chance for significant additional significant savings if Q becomes expendable as Dayan develops. This should balance the contract/arb escalations, and allow for a FA pitcher, if none is fortchcoming in trade, but yeah, a helluva lot will depend on the performance. Somehow, I doubt the cardinals will have a lot of free resources next year.
  4. So does this move mean that Luke Scott moves out of the DH spot and back to the OF?
  5. QUOTE (lostfan @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 06:10 PM) WTF, he was talking about the Cold War. And yeah, the media kinda just blindly followed whatever the Bush administration said on Iraq and didn't really start questioning it until it was too late to matter. The countries I really thought about on that were the ones nearby the 2 war zones, the countries north of Afghanistan like Uzbekistan, the countries around the Middle East that hosted our forces during the Iraq invasion.
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 04:50 PM) Balta ruined my enjoyment of that. I did it all for the nookie.
  7. QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 05:27 PM) .590 OPS in the 2nd half, .590! He could take over 3b for the Angels.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 04:58 PM) You are showing a chart that goes through 2007. And gave the modern number as well. Here is the version through 2010, now that I found a better site. (The 30 year Treasury was temporarily discontinued after the surpluses of the Clinton administration.) Here is the corresponding chart for the 10 year treasury.
  9. QUOTE (scenario @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 04:41 PM) Nice try by the trustee going after a deep pocket, but... not sure how the Mets could be held responsible. Like Wilpon said, it's a classical example of where a merit-less suit is filed to try and force someone to settle a case rather than risk getting their reputation smeared in a fight. If you've taken profits out of a ponzi scheme, you don't get to keep those profits. Just 2 months ago, the investigator seized $7.2 billion in ill-gotten gains from the estate of one of Madoff's large clients.
  10. I find it interesting that, if the commodities price increases we're seeing are due to nations printing currency during these economic crises...the price increases have focused on goods which have had their production disrupted by recent weather events.
  11. It's spring training move-in day at Camelbak!
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 04:32 PM) Perhaps this is going over your head. They are naming it after Durst because they think he's a douche. Because he is. I know. But every time anyone winds up posting a poll online about "What should we name this thing" and it gets publicity, Stephen Colbert features the poll on his show, and is winning it the next day. He has a bridge in Hungary and the treadmill on the International Space Station named after him because of that.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 04:19 PM) Another reason to love the city of Austin, Texas. It's only a matter of time now before this thing winds up named after Stephen Colbert.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 01:59 PM) Oh and your ATT service will suffer if you are in an area populated with a ton of Verizon users. Its weird, but it happens. Then this is going to destroy ATT.
  15. So, the Metropolitans are in some serious trouble.
  16. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 02:51 PM) About 5% of the world's oil. Its not that big of a deal, most of it goes to Europe and honestly the more they go to Gazprom the better. The United States currently produces 6% of the world's oil. The volume of oil you just called "not a big deal" is approximately equal to the entire amount of oil produced within the territories of the United States.
  17. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 02:35 PM) Replying to Balta in other post: The Fed can sell anyhting they want, but who will buy? Since they change the accounting rules to fit their game, there has to be a buyer for the junk they want to sell. Wait until QE3,4,and 5 are done. How do you think the Feds are going to bail out the states and localities throughout the country. No I have zero confidence in this moron doing anything right. When the end of QE comes I believe the Fed balance sheet will stand at close to $4 trillion. Buy your gold now before it hits $3000 on its way even higher. Right now, everyone is still buying. The interest rate on the 30 year Treasury bill is 4.9%. People are buying that stuff up like it's being sold by Glenn Beck.
  18. Can either of you give me the faintest hint of a reason why I should even attempt to care?
  19. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 11:29 AM) What I find funny is that a lot of the protestors are pleading with the US to help them. So, they're getting rid of the pro-US regime, but want our intervention? How does that work? The U.S. also takes public positions that democracy is good, and they're protesting in favor of democracy.
  20. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 11:54 AM) ATT seems to be great in larger cities, but I get terrible/no reception when I'm traveling for work (usually it's in the middle of nowhere). And it depends on the larger city as well; everyone and their grandchildren seems to complain about AT&T in NY and SF.
  21. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 10:52 AM) 1987?! I would've thought it was much, much older than that. You don't want to age cheese much longer than that.
  22. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 10:34 AM) Seems eerily similar to them stating they can contain inflation today. Do you really think the Federal Reserve could do nothing to fight an inflationary surge if one actually happened? When rates are at 0% and the Fed has accumulated trillions of dollars worth of assets that it could sell off?
  23. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 10:05 AM) Trust me, we'll be dealing with this with Derrick Rose in 9-10 seasons. Weird thing with DR1...the same thing people have been saying is a flaw in his game...his ability to score while avoiding contact in the lane (and thus not get to the line) also could help him avoid some of the beating Wade has taken.
  24. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 10:03 AM) sorry, meant cell phone Can't speak to their network quality or anything like that since I don't use them for wireless. Their corporate customer service has been awful for me though.
  25. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 10:08 AM) Has Kenny ever traded away one of our best players for prospects in an offseason? That seems 100 percent against what he does. Closest examples I can think of are him trading Garcia for Floyd + Gio and trading Lee for Podsednik. Whenever he's had a key component going into the last year of his contract, he's held him rather than dealing him, other than Garcia. (Buehrle and Dye in 2007, Konerko in 2005, Ordonez in 2004, Konerko in 2010, Thome in 2009, Contreras in 2006, Loaiza going into 2004). That doesn't mean he hasn't tried to deal them, but he really hasn't done so.
