  1. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 09:29 AM) I love the hypocrisy of the GOP... "we must reduce the debt... let's add $700 billlion to it by extending the tax cuts" Where'd you get that $700 b figure? Is that the figure for this compromise package?
  2. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 09:22 AM) If Peavy isn't healthy to start the year, we sign a temp fix. (Garcia) Kevin Correia was pretty bad last year, pitched 145 innings, went 10-10 with a 5.40 ERA pitching in Petco, and he just got a 2 year, $8 million deal. Garcia's likely looking at 2+ years and >$12 million based on that scale.
  3. Oh, I could also add that some, me included, would say that truly being irresponsible is knowing that we have a couple trillion dollars worth of infrastructure work that needs to be done while at the same time having the lowest long-term interest rates in a century, and failing to take advantage of that opportunity.
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 09:05 AM) Honestly, if he wants that kind of money, I'd rather just offer Adrian Beltre 5/$75 and see where that gets me... Really? Take a look at what Seattle got for his prime years when they invested 5/$60. Do you really look at that and think "Man, Seattle got a bargain"?
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 09:01 AM) His "stamp" is clearly takeaways and scoring on the defensive side of the ball. The Bears lead the league in takeaways since Lovie arrived. I think that's pretty clearly the key of his defensive philosophy. As for his strengths, I think he prepares the team well. I believe he creates good schemes, good game plans, whatever you want to call them. The Bears are also fairly consistent in regards to their motivation to play a game. They do not seem to be as subject to letdowns or overlooking opponents as much as some other teams do. As for his weaknesses, he clearly has some in-game issues. He seems to be poor at clock management and challenges, as you said. Overall though, I believe he has been the best Bears coach of my lifetime. Certainly better than Mike Ditka. More consistent than Dick Jauron. Obviously better than Wanne. Maybe it's not saying much, and maybe he's not Bill Bellichick or Mike Tomlin, but there's not a lot of head football coaches I would rather have than Lovie Smith. Well said Shack.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 08:53 AM) The Patriots are not going to overlook a 9-3 Bears team. The Patriots can be beaten...but it's going to take an effort very similar to the one against the Eagles, perhaps better even, for it to happen. Can't wait. Early line has New England -2.5. You're absolutely right.
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 08:47 AM) Ugh...I am not interested in PK for 3/$38 or whatever....let him walk Would you be interested if it was say, 3/$33?
  8. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 09:30 PM) Seattle doesn't deserve one. Their last season there, in which their fans who always supported the team, ranked exactly where New Orleans currently ranks in attendance right now. There would be no reason other than the taxpayers will fund the entire arena. I would love Chicago to get another team. Because we always support our teams, no matter what. They should actually consider building an arena in Washington Park and gentrify the area. That would be excellent. Bah, everyone knew that Seattle's team was leaving that year, they'd already been sold to an OKC owner. If you knew the Sox were moving to Tampa next season, would you continue to buy tickets to help that owner pay for his new city's team? Seattle doesn't "Deserve" a team if you say that the only cities that deserve a team are cities that spend hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars on arenas during recessions. That's a solid market, one of the top 15 in the country. The NBA needs to be there, just like the NFL needs to be in L.A.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 10:47 PM) I'm watching the Clippers game as I try to because Griffin is a beast and wow does Del Negro look old. I wonder if he makes it one season as the head coach. He's horrible. And boy is his hair gray and he looks all wrinkled. It's the Clippers. You don't get penalized for being a losing coach th ere.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 08:02 AM) The good news is that New England has to come to Chicago, while Green Bay still has to go to Foxboro. I don't see the Bears winning this Sunday, but I really don't think the Pack can leave Boston with a win either. Remember, no matter how good they looked last night, this Patriots team is the same one that lost to Cleveland, badly, a few weeks ago. They're on a short week, coming off an emotional, rivaly game, while frankly the Bears were probably looking ahead to this game. I wonder if Urlacher still remembers that play 5 years ago where Brady made him look foolish as the ballcarrier. I remember it, so I bet he does.
  11. QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 08:17 AM) Overall it must be great news, Social Security is on such solid ground we can cut the money coming in. Plus we can borrow more money from China to keep government spending at such a high level. While we are pissing away our children's future, why not borrow an extra $20,000 per person and send us a big check. Cut the f***ing spending or raise the taxes but don't cut income and increase spending. No, Tex, P***ing away your children's future = allowing the job market to continue deteriorating. And it doesn't matter one iota who buys treasury bonds. If China were to begin selling them off today, their currency would skyrocket relative to ours, that would kill their manufacturing sector, send them into a giant recession, and strengthen the U.S. job market. All those complaints we hear about how China is fixing their currency to protect their economy? Same exact issue.

QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 10:23 PM) The Gaylord Opryland hotel is probably the most awesome hotel I have stayed at ever. It was worth the trip to Nashville alone. And we ate at the Loveless Cafe twice. Would have really loved to go to the Smokey Mountains but we just didn't have enough time. Very cool city . Strange that the Parthenon is located in a city such as Nashville though. Lol Glad my suggestion worked out well.
  13. Fat chance.
  14. QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 03:02 AM) If there's one thing about the White Sox offense that I could target for improvement over the years, it would be SITUATIONAL HITTING. You think Ozzie would agree, but he continues to have a hard-on for Walker. Walker is the perfect hitting coach for Rob Deer. But we don't need that. We need a hitting coach that preaches situational hitting. Clutch hitting IS situational hitting. This is what we need. The Sox were one of the best situational hitting teams in the AL last year. #2 in BA with RISP, #3 with Scoring Position and 2 outs, and OPS numbers that ranked them similar to where their batting average did. Greg Walker appreciates your praise.
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 11:38 PM) I don't think the Cardinals are going to let Pujols hit free agency anyways. They may not have a choice.
  16. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 08:33 AM) So.....this is Plan B? These are (hopefully) guys that would come up mid-season if they're having a decent year at Charlotte, someone from the big league pen gets hurt, and guys that are in Charlotte's pen who we might genuinely be trying to develop (i.e. Anthony Carter) aren't yet ready. Call it whatever plan you want. Otherwise, they're just there to win games for the knights.
  17. Depth in the Charlotte Bullpen isn't a bad thing.
  18. Just to note once again...nobody cares about the deficit.
  19. QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 06:32 PM) Running off Jay Cutler and trading Peyton Hillis for no reason. Actually, I meant your being 2nd to post the firing news...not the firing itself. Anywho.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 06:36 PM) insurance costs money too, and it is based on risk. I'll bet you that the insurance costs were calculated and written down as part of the contract expenses here.
  21. The worst part of that whole deal is the estate tax number. That's a lower number (percent) than at any point in the Bush administration prior to this year when it vanished for a year.
  22. QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 06:28 PM) f*** you That's what you get for videotaping 49ers practices when you should have been posting.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 06:25 PM) For that price, they can have him. Odds are you are going to lose at least one years worth of time to injury, and he isn't a $10 million a year pitcher. That could be insurable though.
  24. The administration is sounding like they've reached a 2 year tax cut extension deal, and they seem to think they've extracted stimulative concessions in exchange for it. I'll admit, if I were in Congress, I'd probably vote for that package.
  25. Well, I do like the draft pick.
