2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 26, 2010 -> 10:59 PM) I think they are a year away from having a shot at 70 wins but I still think they win the title. I don't know...they've traded away their next half decade worth of draft picks, and there's going to be a monster CBA overhaul. There's no guarantee that all of the exemptions will survive the CBA; the Owners clearly have reason to get rid of the mid-level exemption, because it forces them to spend more money on lower level players to fill out a roster. Plus, there still may not be any 2011-2012 season.

R. Soriano, Fielder, Kemp mentioned in connection w/ Sox
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 27, 2010 -> 08:41 AM) Detroit a force? I really doubt it. They have been heading downhill, they have far less money to spend than the Sox do, and I don't see them turning things around yet. Them and Cleveland are falling down, not coming up. I can see how it might be the case that they have far less money to spend than the Sox do...but I can also argue the reverse. Detroit's salary has been well above that of the Sox the last couple seasons, and they have enormous bad contracts coming off the books this season (Ordonez, Bonderman, Willis). If Detroit goes into next season at the same salary level they started this season with, they'll be competing with the Yankees for both Lee and Crawford. I don't know how you keep a $130 million payroll in Detroit these days...but they've averaged over $125 the last 3 years. They might well have a fortune to spend.

2010 World Series: Rangers vs. Giants
QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 27, 2010 -> 04:11 AM) They need to start the season earlier. There's no reason to have Game 1 only four days before Halloween. March baseball still troubles me. It'd make sense if you were intelligent about your scheduling and sent everyone south or to domes for the first week or so, or if you wait about 5-10 years.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 26, 2010 -> 05:24 PM) http://www.newbernsj.com/articles/machine-...reen-voter.html Holy f**cking s***. We can put a man on the damn moon, but they can't get a voting machine to work right? Now that I've lived through a couple of these cycles, I have to admit, I find it really amusing to see you making the same point I'd have made in 2002 or 2004.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 26, 2010 -> 05:27 PM) Sounds like Obama Admin preparing to cover its butt after this midterm election. http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/...-105727838.html That makes no sense. The FOIA isn't nearly as useful as subpoena power for a party in the majority. The FOIA is much more useful by either the press, outside groups, or even a minority party that can't enforce a subpoena (Henry Waxman was a master at that from 2000-2006).

R. Soriano, Fielder, Kemp mentioned in connection w/ Sox
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 27, 2010 -> 05:12 AM) It's logical enough to imagine Quentin at DH, Viciedo at 1B and Kemp in RF...which means it's probably unlikely to transpire. Except for that small little factor of not having the type of players in our minor league system capable of fetching a Kemp or Upton, even at reduced rates. The big problem with that as written is that it's vastly RH heavy. Even though Quentin has tended to hit righties better than lefties, there's still zero balance to the middle of that order. Then you throw in Alexei and Beckham, maybe a Morel sighting...now Juan Pierre is our only obvious LH bat even on a good day unless we bring (back) a LH catcher.

You're probably talking about Xenon, at least at some level though, since it's an atmospheric component.

FlexSpending Changes for 2011

2010 ALCS: Rangers vs. Yankees
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 26, 2010 -> 09:02 PM) Plus he strikes me as a guy who still drinks and does that stuff. Maybe not heroin, but I do remember pictures of him leaking taking shots off of women at a bar when he was claiming straight edge and his shirt was off and all. I think he's one of the biggest phonies out there. Yeah, he admitted he had a setback, apologized, and went through the 12 step response to how you respond to a setback.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 26, 2010 -> 08:45 PM) They're tied with 3 other teams for 14th in PPG which means they are mediocre. Their total offense is top 5 as well as their passing offense. The thing is, they usually sputter out when getting into scoring position. Their running game is non-existant. Totaly Yards is always a rough way to look at total offense/total defense...because you can get into shootout situations...where you're down say, 20 points early, and you have to "air it out to Miles Austin" to come back, if I'm not the only one who's heard that commercial.

2010 World Series: Rangers vs. Giants
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Oct 26, 2010 -> 08:39 PM) The local media has picked up the fact that Lee pretty much likes how things are here. It'll be interesting if $50+ million over a 5 year contract speaks louder, because you know whatever the Rangers offers the Yankmees will add +1-2 more years and $10 million + per year (aka at least $50 million) to the contract. In fact, I bet you they'd give him $200 million over 5 years. Yea, $40 million per year. It wouldn't surprise me. WTF? The Yankees are probably going $150/6-7, but, um, WTF?

FlexSpending Changes for 2011
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Oct 26, 2010 -> 08:18 PM) Yea. And your point? It was a throw in, and it was lobbied for so that they could start the process of doing away with tax free medicines, i.e. they collect the tax revenues on this - welcome to yet another tax in this bill going up. It was a plank to "raise money", yet another misnomer and lie perpetrated by the whole damn sham called "health care reform". (Sigh). So, you're in favor of the government paying for people's medicine?

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Oct 26, 2010 -> 06:44 PM) There shouldn't be on the court, but he gets clumped into the guilt by association deal I guess. He's playing with James and Bosh who jumped onto his team. Just the way it is. I used to go for the Heat because I liked him, but I'm not going to go for them anymore. You say that as though he had nothing to do with them coming to his team hot South Beach party.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Oct 26, 2010 -> 06:29 PM) It's all Isaiah's fault. So who are people rooting for tonight, Heat or Celtics? I'm going for injuries myself. I still sing "Know your enemy" when Rondo comes on the screen...but yeah, go Celtics.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Oct 26, 2010 -> 06:31 PM) Yep Wade is indeed a goner. There's only so long you can rely on talent and not holding your players accountable when it comes to performance and penalties. We need help desperately in the secondary and on the offensive line. Gruden's the favourite right now to take over. John Fox has been mooted though because he gets along well with Jerry Jones. I don't think Cowher will want any part of dealing with Jerry (my guess is he coaches Carolina next season). I think it's going to be one messy offseason for teams that want to change coaches, because no one's going to want to hire a coach, especially a big name coach, and have them sit there and collect $5 million while there's no season...but you don't want to have no coach in place when the draft happens.

Thornton, Castro back; Torres gone
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 26, 2010 -> 04:34 PM) Just because Flowers' had a bad season doesn't mean he's a non-prospect. This is the same exact kind of stuff people were saying about Viciedo last year, and then he had a good all around season. The example I used was JP Arencibia for Toronto. Had a piss-poor 2009, comes back this year, destroys AAA pitching, and he's looked at in a different light again. Flowers is still a relatively young player. This is a very important season for him, but considering him a non-prospect after his first full go around in AAA is pretty ridiculous. The problem with Flowers is 2-fold. First...he's a non-prospect in a trade sense. Although he started the year in BA's top 60, he's clearly fallen from that standing. Thus, right now, in building our 2011 team, he's not helpful on the trade front. Second...we actually need a catcher right now! Flowers had such a terrible season that even people who tend to like giving young guys a shot after they've worked their way up (i.e. Me) are currently unable to figure out how we could gamble on Flowers as the starting C next year. In the long term he may still have some promise, but he's at best a throw-in for most trades right now, and he's at best a huge risk as the starting catcher next year.
