  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:54 PM) I was thinking that it seems almost impossible to imagine any situation in which the Sox bring back Manny. If he performs well, he'll want a hell of a lot more money than we'd want to give him. If he performs poorly, it will likely cause a lot of negative feelings in the organization and they wouldn't be interested in bringing him back. The big question is going to be...how much money is Manroid willing to play for next year? There's not going to be a whole lot of teams out looking for a 39 year old DH next offseason. If Manroid is willing to play for a couple million dollars, then the Sox are probably as likely of a destination as anywhere (maybe the Rays might have interest, but otherwise?). I still am not convinced that Manroid will be motivated to play for a 90% pay cut.
  2. QUOTE (stretchstretch @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:51 PM) Manny is thinking, "hmm, traded from the 'LA' Staying Home in October's, to the Chicago Staying Home in October's" "But if I stay healthy at DH for a month and hit the ball a lot, I can maybe score one more contract".
  3. "They've looked a little lethargic against Carlos Carrasco" - DJ
  4. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:49 PM) Even if they did the job, we'd be down 2 with 10 or 11 outs to go. But then Manny would be coming up
  5. Stiff Lower back for Garcia.
  6. QUOTE (hawksox13 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:47 PM) Agreed! On the off season list needs to be the following subtractions: Freddy Garcia, Bobby Jenks, Tony Pena, Ozzie Guillen, Mark Kotsay, and Andruw Jones. I'd love Jones back at the same contract.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:46 PM) Vizquel was bunting on his own for a base hit. The reason why that's hard to believe is that Vizquel put the bunt down 2 straight pitches.
  8. Playing for 1 run when down 3. DJ can't believe that Vizquel wasn't trying to bunt for a hit.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:36 PM) What happened on the Nix play? High chopper off the plate, Alexei rushed in, fielded ball, good throw probably gets nix, ball thrown too far away for Konerko to get it.
  10. 3-1 Tribe on the double play.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:25 PM) I really hope Sox don't intend on bringing back Garcia next season. He was a pleasant surprise, but it's just too hard to count on him to stay healthy/strong an entire year. Peavy, Danks, Floyd, Buehrle, Jackson...Sale as the #6 option. There's no room anywhere but the bullpen.
  12. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:10 PM) Sweet f***ing throw Andruw. Freddy wasn't backing up.
  13. QUOTE (MEANS @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 12:55 PM) i swear it seems like everybody in the league can steal bases on us.... We're right in the middle of the pack in terms of stolen bases against us and CS %age. 81 steals against us coming into today, 8th most in the league. 28% CS percentage, good for 7th best in the league.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 12:29 PM) He said going into the season that one of the major reasons they brought him in was for guidance for Alexei and Gordon, and until Teahen's injury, Vizquel was only starting occasionally. So basically, yes. And yet...after Teahen's injury...Ozzie correctly saw that having Vizquel in the lineup was producing better results than having Teahen in there. As such...Vizquel has become a regular and Teahen is competing for at bats with Kotsay. This is not to say it's been the wrong decision...Vizquel's .285 average, even if it's a weak .285, has been almost a godsend for this team. Ozzie's going to look at the year Vizquel has had this year and unless Omar decides he doesn't want to come back, he'll start next year with a plan to start something like 100 games
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 12:35 PM) Curious if anyone here would have preferred to DFA Frodo instead of Nix. Bah, Nix was never going to develop without 100% everyday playing time, and he was never getting that in Chicago.
  16. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 11:18 AM) Yeah that is somewhat surprising actually. His name was actually on KW's whiteboard in the Club in the ST episode.
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 11:54 AM) I'm sure it was just osmosis through people b****ing. I'll look forward to Peavy next year then! I think it's sort of a general worry that his rehab will take longer than expected since his injury is uncommon for pitchers. Last report though had him beginning strengthening/rotation exercises on the shoulder and on track to start throwing exercises by Jan 1.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 09:30 AM) I could easily see the club deciding that Morel has the job, Vizquel is the utility IF and more importantly, infield coach. They slowly transition the job to Morel. Only if Omar tells the team he doesn't want to play 100 games next year.
  19. So, last night, sitting AK Senator Lisa Murkowski conceded the Alaska Republican Primary to Palin-Endorsee Joe Miller, who appears to be similarly from the Palin/Angle caucus. His most recent interview, for example, he declared that Social Security and Medicare are unconstitutional. Murkowski, of course, is a moderate Republican by no one's standards...she's the one who was pushing the "block the EPA from acting on CO2 emissions" bill earlier this year, but that wasn't enough for the AK Republicans. It's going to be interesting to see if the Dem can make it close in this race, my side wouldn't have had a shot if Murkowski had won.
  20. 7th time this season the Cubs have given up 14 or more, according to MLBN. Most for the Cubs in a season since 87.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 09:07 AM) I like Morel a lot, had him higher on prospect lists than others in the last few, and I think he's got a real shot at being the Sox 3B next year. The only way Vizquel isn't in that spot on opening day is injury or retirement.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:01 AM) Are we even sure that Ramirez will play? I can give Ozzie a pass for not playing him last night, even though I thought it was the wrong move. Benching him today would be the epitome of idiocy.
  23. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 06:04 PM) So Mark Gonzales just tweeted that Mitchell's going to the Arizona Fall League, does that mean he's made a faster recovery than expected? Yes it does, although I think it's been rumored here for at least some time that he was enough ahead of schedule that the AFL would be an option barring setbacks.
