  1. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 11:14 AM) I'll take Jackson but I really think that pitchers can thrive with weaker stuff in the NL. I don't know why I just do. I think just about everyone thinks that.
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 11:19 AM) Plus, look how good he pitched with the injured arm, imagine it healthy! The Nats examined the Hell out of his arm before they signed him. I really think he was probably healthy almost right up until the point that he snapped it.
  3. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 09:45 AM) BRING ON MANRAM!!! We need that bat this weekend. Even if the Sox were to claim him its highly doubtful they'd have him available before Monday.
  4. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 09:43 AM) What does this even mean? I'm not talking about politicians, i'm talking about people. The majority of the people in that state voted for a ban. Clearly not ALL of those people were Republicans. You guys act like ONLY republicans are anti-gay, when that's not the case. Which is precisely what happens when you run a "gay people are coming for your children!" hate campaign. Just like in 2004. Except the margin was a lot smaller.
  5. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 09:24 AM) So the latest on Manny is that we will find out by the end of the day who put in a claim if any. There is some press out there saying that Dodgers who won couple of games recently might not be willing to give up Manny anymore because they are 5GB in the NL wild card race now. And another source claims Manny and Boras will try to use the NTC to guarantee a 1 year extension for 2011. Stuff got a little complicated, however I have a feeling we will know much more by the end of the day. We probably will know much more by the end of the day...but remember, we'll probably know nothing official at all. If Manny has passed through completely, we won't hear about it officially through anything but leaks. If Manny has been claimed by someone, we won't know officially which team has claimed him unless the Dodgers immediately let him go, and they still have another 2 days to work out a trade even if we did claim him.
  6. I'm not going to guess whether this is the first salvo in the Denver Anthony Ripping or a legitimate issue.
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:45 AM) The two best pitchers in baseball the last month have been Jackson and Hudson. Go figure. Have you looked at the AL pitching stats for August? There's 4 guys who have been absolutely filthy including Jackson. Cahill in Oakland, King Felix, and Buchholz.
  8. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 09:22 PM) So, if this mosque was going up 12 blocks away from the get go, you are saying that there would still be this massive opposition to it? If it were 8000 blocks away, there'd still be opposition. I'm in one of the states where we're getting the same exact protests over building of a new Mosque. They're vandalizing mosques and protesting mosques in Orange county and organizing Qu'ran burnings in Florida, for crying out loud.
  9. Comcast will start broadcasting the ceremonies for him 30 minutes before their normal broadcast begins.
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 10:08 PM) Kotsay naturally hasn't hit for as much power as Jones has, but that is to be expected. He has gotten on base more often, and he has a higher average, and thus has been a superior candidate to Jones as the DH against RHP. It doesn't mean you want it. Worth noting though...despite the difference in average...you lose only 20 points of OBP against RHP going from Kotsay to Jones. For a platoon, that difference is quite small. This is not to say I want Jones facing more RHP...I just don't want Kotsay facing any.
  11. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 10:53 PM) Hey Balta, was Jackson good enough tonight for ya? Um... Yeah... I think I can live with that.
  12. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 06:21 PM) hey buddy, you need to realize that billionaire hedge fund manager money and corporate donations that go to Democrats is good and pure. Unlike the evil forces funding the horrible and mean 'tea party'. Oh, so you admit that it's a bad thing when billionaires fund media groups now? So, you're willing to toss AFP and Freedomworks off the boat? Because there's basically your Tea Party. Like I said...it's perfectly ok to criticize millions coming from Soros, but the tens of millions coming from Koch Industries? How dare I say that those tens of millions of dollars had anything to do with the tens of millions of dollars spent organizing the tea parties.
  13. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 04:52 PM) Ok Ms pelosi, do you have any proof for that wild accusation, or just blowing smoke out your butt again? Well funded by who? Or are you just pissed that this really DID start as a true grassroots movement, as opposed to all the manufacured ones funded by Soros and friends? The mainstream Repubs involved now jumped on the bandwagon well after it started rolling along, and I don't see any wealthy billionaire pulling strings behind the scenes. You should read up on Koch industries. They're like George Soros except no one pays attention and they give a ton more money to political causes.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 05:10 PM) I think that this debate will finally end since the poll results turned out to be a huge penis when plotted on a graph. The reason it's not circumcised is the 2004 Mehlman led campaign.
  15. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 04:42 PM) If it's that high then why don't people run on that platform alone? It's never a main talking point. It might, on occasion, be thrown in at the last minute for no other reason than to get the religious right out to the voting booth. Because the nation is turning against those people quite rapidly. In 2004, it was a serious matter.
  16. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 04:41 PM) Isn't that basically the approach of every White Sox hitter? I think this has to change. Every guy Kenny get is like that except for Pierre. Really, no it isn't. Konerko certainly doesn't do that. Beckham doesn't do that. Ramirez doesn't do that. Vizquel doesn't do that. The guys who do are AJ and Quentin, I'd say.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 04:35 PM) It might be boring and take a long time, but it'd be neat to see when he hit each of his home runs and did they contribute to a victory? No, I'm not looking it up. Jones had 2 separate 2 HR games in April and 1 in May. The Sox won all 3 games by 1 run. He has 5 HR that were in obvious blowouts, and only 3 HR in losses. Some of those blowouts were keyed by his HR (Toronto, April 14th). And it's worth noting that his HR in games we lost were ones that were in close games...like the 3 run HR that was the only reason we were in a game against the Twins.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 04:25 PM) I've said before, and will again... there is a difference between what the tea party movement started with (mostly libertarianism) and what is has become (co-opted by the neo-cons). And I haven't seen a single thing to convince me that it was anything other than a well funded, well planned means of getting the Bush 20% out on the streets and active despite having lost an election.
  19. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 04:23 PM) Look at the trades hes made though Mike. Those guys don't have NTC in their contracts majority of the time. He either gets guys with a chip on their shoulder, or young prospects who didn't get much of a chance with their original team. But he has pulled off guys with NTC's before as well. Griffey, Peavy, Thome immediately come to mind, and I vaguely remember Rios having some limited restrictions as well.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 04:15 PM) The problem with using his offensive numbers over this season is that they are heavily weighted towards the first two months of the year when most of his production took place. For me his biggest contribution is his play in the OF. Disagree. Jones's offensive numbers have 1 incredible month (April), one Terrible month (June) and 3 months where he's been a solid backup OF. .718 OPS in May, .813 OPS in July, .766 OPS in August.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 04:10 PM) Extremely libertarian Except when it comes to freedom of religion.
  22. Then one worthy question is...what is England doing that is so much better than us?
  23. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 03:48 PM) Much like your view of the tea party, this is all just so wrong. A core of the election strategy? Really? First, it's not a 100% republican only issue. And second, it still only involves a minority of the party, not the majority. It might grab more headlines than others, but that doesn't make it a "core" to the conservative belief. In 2004, GOTV operations based on anti-gay amendments was flat out at the top of the GOP list of election strategies, just like protesting Mosques is there this year.
