Sox at Twinkies July 17th, 610 start-WGN
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 08:08 PM) Bad hand didn't cause him to swing at two pitches that were 2 feet off the plate, unless he was trying to get the bat thru the zone faster. Frankly, he's probably totally off on his timing because of that hand, as active as his stance is.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 08:09 PM) Ball is flying out today compared to the first four games here. Are you kidding? Konerko killed that ball and it wound up barely in the first row.

I like on the replay how Paul hit that ball so hard that after his swing he stumbled backwards.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 08:03 PM) Looks like the ASB completely killed Quentin's rhythm. No, getting nailed on the hand in game 1 of this series and probably swinging a bat with a bruised hand did that.

What Would You Rather Do?
QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 07:14 PM) With Peavy out, Viciedo hitting the ball relatively well in the bigs, and AJ leaving as a FA this winter, I would guess that Kenny doesn't make any significant deal by the deadline. This team is just too heavily-reliant on its top prospects right now. KW will find a way to do something. I just don't think he deals anyone of our top 4 guys.

Promote Morel for better defense
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 06:33 PM) Kenny should grow a huge pair of balls and trade Konerko and Teahen at the deadline a good OF. huh?

Financial News
Wachovia; the official bank of international cocaine smuggling. I'm sure someone in a moment will tell me how they were justly working around repressive government restrictions on capital flow.

Stat for pitcher accuracy?
The other thing on this...I'd bet that if you really did exact numbers, you'd find that Greg Maddux was one of the least accurate pitchers in history. Because everything he threw was just off the corner.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 04:09 PM) This isn't Ozzie's team, if Kenny gets LaRoche, Ozzie will play him because his boss says so. Like when Viciedo was called up and saw a game in his first week+.

Sun-Times: Ted Lilly to Sox?
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 04:45 PM) We may have to stand pat. Hope Kenny doesn't trade any of the minor leaguers who are projected to be impactful at the big league level. Then basically, KW can't make any trades.

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 04:28 PM) Corey Hart. The asking price the Giants got for him was one out of Sanchez or Baumgartner

QUOTE (ICP! @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 03:59 PM) If the Bulls added Shaq they would be a REALLY big, stout and tall team. Teams will not be overmatching us by beating up on our guys. The Bulls are already a big team but Shaq will really give us a wall out there to hurt feelings and bones. Shaq is a terrible fit for the Bulls roster and should be a terrible fit for Thibs's system unless he changes things hugely.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 11:21 AM) Is it asking way too much of the Indians to win both games of the day-night DH against Detroit today? Boy on top of a Sox win tonight that would be sweet. They're already down 3

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 01:44 PM) Give me Howard over McGrady then, as McGrady's back is just shot. And yes, there's no sure things left unfortunately besides Luke Schenscher for back-up center. I wouldn't be mad with Howard, if Thibs thought he could work with him.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 01:29 PM) Beyond having slightly more power, please explain. Slightly more power? Laroche has a career .829 OPS, Kotsay .749. LaRoche is 30, Kotsay is 34. LaRoche's best offensive season was 2009, Kotsay's was 2004. Both have slightly negative UZR numbers at 1b in their career. Kotsay has never hit more than 15 HR, LaRoche only hit less than 20 in his rookie season. LaRoche averages 39 2b and 26 HR over 162 games, Kotsay 33 and 12. That's like saying Paul Konerko has slightly more power than LaRoche.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 01:35 PM) It's a huge gamble though, especially with Deng being so fragile and Rose always an injury risk due to the way he plays. First of all, can you name a "Sure thing" left on the market? Secondly, with a team like the Heat out there, the only way you've got a chance is to take and win some major gambles. Third, if you gamble on signing one of them and they play 30 games and Deng and Rose both get hurt, what have you lost? If Deng and Rose get hurt, the Bulls will miss the playoffs anyway.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 01:21 PM) I just can't see McGrady or Howard staying healthy long enough to give you more than 35-40 games. Off the bench though, that's a reasonable gamble. The question I'd have is...if that's all they give you, are they effective in those minutes or not?

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 01:18 PM) So would getting a very good package for Dunn instead of a world-changing package like they want. The Nats would probably go cheap on the supplemental picks anyways. If I were them, I'd hesitate to deal him for Hudson + Flowers, for example. I know they're shooting beyond that (beckham) but there's zero reason to give him up for less than that.- What Would You Rather Do?
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 01:09 PM) For some reason, Nationals are treating Dunn like he's Jason Heyward. The asking price is insane, and with there being very little change that Dunn would re-sign with an AL team, KW would be better off using our resources elsewhere. A late first and a sandwich pick, for a team looking down the road, is really valuable.- What Would You Rather Do?
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 12:12 PM) Danny Haren is having a disasterous season, so unless Arizona is willing to lower their asking price, no team should be going after Haren like he's the Cy Young candidate he has been. His velocity decrease is very concerning. Last night, Haren's fastball averaged 90.88 mph and topped out at 93. I checked an 8 inning, 4 hit start of his from May of 2009, and his fastball averaged 90.3 and topped out at 91.6. Here's a detailed look at a couple of his outings, with numbers up to date as of late May. As of right now, his BABIP is .343.- NBA Offseason Thread
